So what's he doing? Picking dingleberries out of his ass? He's not active in any game, he has no other responsibility but to develop. I would be disappointed, if by the 7th regular season game, my rookie QB has no idea what's in the NFL playbook. He's had time after the draft, OTAs, TC, Preseason and now.
It's funny how some people can't understand it's just one game. They're acting as if this one game is gonna change his future from developing into Aaron Rodgers to panning out as Mark Sanchez.
so the better option is finding some guy off the street? If Geno and Fitz can't go, Petty should start and we should sign another QB to back him up.
OF COURSE Petty is going to start if either Geno or Fitz can't go. But, if one of them is marginal and can play, they are playing. The Jets seem hellbent on not playing Petty.
I remember when they interviewed Aaron Rodgers for something and he said that if he were made to play in his first 2 years, he wouldn't have a clue what he is doing. Petty isn't ready and we don't need to ruin him with the way our offensive line looks right now. Let him sit until at least we face a garbage time scenario.
I don't think anyone has written, or even implied such a silly thing. People are merely cautioning against just throwing him in there unless we really have to.
This. Who knows if Geno or Sanchez would have turned out to be better QB's had they sat the way Rodgers did. If Petty has any shot to succeed in this league, they have to be patient with him. However, if Petty is to start any game, the Jags would be the team to do so.
True, but we have new guys calling the shots. Petty was a 4th round pick, he'll either do what 4th round picks do, or he will do better. We've had decent protection for our QB'S this year...unless they start running around. He'll have 3 good receivers and running back, who hopefully can nurse him along.
I can't believe I'm actually considering a situation where Geno is healthy now.... "Game over man! Game over!"
Well you can rule Fitz out 100% with torn ligaments in his non-throwing hand. Geno? I have no idea of the severity of Geno's injury. Just saying, starting Petty could very well happen, they might not want it to happen, but they will get him ready just incase
What are you talking about? Jets have allowed the fewest quarterback sacks in the entire NFL even including the debacle on Sunday. As long as he doesn't hold the ball or run without sliding odds are he'll be fine.
Remember a big reason why is Fitz. He makes all the checks at the line and gets the ball out quick. Put Geno back there and we will see the sacks and forced throws go through the roof. Fitz takes a lot of credit for our low sack numbers with his familiarity of the playbook and short quick throws
Bowles indicated if Fitz or Geno can't go it will be Petty. Said anyone coming in would not know any of the playbook so if they are going to have to scale down the O they would do it for Petty who at least has a decent grasp of the offense.
A thought on the positive side if Petty does start Sunday. At least he would be going up against Jacksonville, gets some regular season action and comes out with a win to give him some confidence. Fitz puts off surgery and comes back the following week but the one win does wonders for Petty's psyche, building toward next season.
Time for Petty to sack up...baptism by fire...If he cant be somewhat effective against Jacksonville by midseason he's never going to get it
Agreed. I said it in the preseason: we would ruin Petty by asking him to be our savior, but you won't ruin him by asking him to make 1 or 2 spot starts. These guys aren't made of glass mentally.
Well, I mean, if the season ended today, we'd be the 6th seed. As bad as we looked yesterday, we still have the talent and schedule to make this a season.
Nobody is expecting Petty to be great, the bar is very low, its not like there is going to be a lot of pressure on him to be a world beater. Hold onto the ball, don't fumble it 3x or make any Sanchez like butt-fumbles and people will be happy.
