This is probably bad news. And saying that, I hope to be wrong, and I hope that dozens of people are throwing it in my face in a week. Damn I hope I'm wrong.
I don't think so, considering this is probably the easiest game in the schedule (or it could be Titants or Texans, with the AFC South you never know who's worse). Probably Fitz will be back against Buffalo so Petty just for this week doesn't sound that bad.
bad headline by the wsj bowles said he won't know anything till wednesday but petty will get some reps.
I still think Geno is going to start. But, we are all just guessing until we here something more concrete.
Petty should know the playbook by now, at this juncture it's about seeing what's on the field. He can't be as bad as Brooks Bollinger right?
give the Kid a chance if he does end up starting, really one game is going to destroy his future lol he'll be fine
Understandable, but he should know the playbook by now. He's had a decent amount of time to work on this. Obviously not master it, but should know a great deal.
If the team thinks he isn't ready, then he isn't ready. If you think he has the potential to be the guy down the road, you don't play him before he is ready. Also, if it is obvious to the coaches that the guy isn't ready, it's also going to be obvious to most of the players. The Jets have a veteran-filled locker-room. Bowles can't put Petty out there unless he honestly believes he is the best option available, and everything we have heard so far makes it sound like the Jets believe he isn't ready to be that guy yet.
Well the respectable reports have stated Fitz and Geno are both day to day and the starter this weekend could possibly be signed sometime soon so it seems as if they have plans to do otherwise but in the meantime it appears that they will prepare him in case plan A, plan B, and plan C all fail and he is forced to play.
Honestly if Petty had to play one game it's not the end all. Keep it simple. Quick easy passes and a run game... Oh and maybe not missing 10 trillion tackles on defense would do it too. One game won't ruin this guys career.
There's nothing wrong with starting Petty. The only time the Jets QB's have been getting crushed is when they try to run without sliding or insist on holding the ball for 15 seconds. He makes fast decisions and has a good arm, I say let him sling it around.
