So we're going to win 1 or 2 more games and that's it if Geno's the guy? With his play yesterday we would still be 4-3 Yeah he makes some dumb decisions a few times a game...we all know that. But his overall net play is not much worse than Fitzpatrick as we saw yesterday If some of you only want to look at his lowest points as the end all, be all, that's on you but it's not the reality of the situation If Geno is truly that awful, how did he win 8 games as a rookie with a garbage squad? Awful schedule you say? Well we play a pretty awful schedule the rest of the way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Geno is the QB, no sense in pining over Fitz, the guy went to Harvard but his brain is mush, he still can't slide. I hope that extra yard he picked up is worth the surgery to repair tendons in his hand, his season and tenure with the Jets is over. And Fitz has no one to blame but himself. So the way I look at it, no sense in killing Geno yet, I'm gonna give him the Jacksonville game and go from there. We have no choice but to get behind him and hope he got all the stupid brain-dead plays out of his system.
He had two bad games last year, which were the Chargers game and the Bills game. In the first few games of the season he was inconsistent but he wasn't outright terrible. After his benching he played better and was more consistent.
They both do the common mistakes I referenced so do a lot of QBs. However, I've yet to see Fitz run out of bounds behind the LOS when he is outside the pocket. That particularly special play is unique to Geno. In fact, as long as I've been watching football about 30 years now, Geno is the first QB I've ever see do that consistent basis. For the life of me I can't seem to understand why it's so hard for him to throw the ball out of bounds in those situations. Is he more worried about getting an incompletion added to his stat line then he is putting himself and the team in 2nd or third and long?
I agree there, he needs to cut that out, that's something I see young QB's do from time to time. To his credit he's cut that down, but that needs to be eliminated altogether.
The Geno against the Raiders' prevent was different than the Geno against their regular defense once the game was w/in 2 scores.
I actually wondered whether he didn't want to mess up his completion % and stat line too. But really I just think he's dumb, he may not have known he can just throw it away in that situation, maybe he thought it would be a large penalty or something? It's all I can think of, those plays were really inexplicable.
Cut that down? He does that nearly everygame he plays in. This is his first game this year and he did it twice if you consider the sack.
The Jets get real dumb west of the Mississippi. Right now we're stuck with Geno for the foreseeable future. He's an idiot in all time zones.
From reading some of these posts I can tell there were people just waiting for this type of scenario to happen. Which is f-cking sad.
Let's say I believe that, which I don't, I can't give credit to someone for doing the inexplicable at a lesser freqency than before. It's like giving credit to a parent for deciding to take care of his/her kids.
Again you're too focused in on the stat line. He played pretty bad most of the year and has yet to situationally do something late in games that would make anyone say "wow that's a great or heads up play by Geno," versus what he usually does which garners the reaction of "is this guy that stupid?" Stop staring at the stags. Go back and watch those games. He progressively gets worse as games go on and he's horrible against any sort of blitz pressure. His stat line looks pretty good against the Raiders if you ignore the two sacks he took in bounds which contributing to burning an extra full minute off the clock and killed us both times. You can't read that stat on NFL.com but they were horrible football plays. Cutting down on taking sacks out of the pocket with 3+ seconds to throw the ball away before a defenders near is a play that happens once in your career and then you never do it again. Twice in the same game? C'mon man.
It's fucking amazing. I've never seen anything like it. If i were a Jets beat reporter, i would ask Geno about that play after every game. I actually think, as absurd as it is, that he just forgets to throw it away. I actually think his game-awareness and decision-making is THAT bad. He actually just panics and forgets. I honestly don't think he is being selfish about his stat-line, I just think he panics.
I'm not looking at just stats I'm saying that he made mistakes but he also did some good things too. Mistakes don't negate the positives when you are looking at the whole performance. Those two sacks were bad decisions no argument from me there, it was a stupid decision, but he did some good things in this game as well and putting everything in perspective he played an overall solid game. You're just focusing on his negative plays I'm focusing on the overall body of his performance.
I guess we respectfully see things differently. 4 or 5 real shitty plays negate the whole performance for me unless you threw for 450 yards with five touchdowns. We also played the leagues worst pass defense with a two score lead most of the day...
But, I think what you are missing (or perhaps just downplaying) is that we all see the same mistakes from Geno that we saw in year one. He back-pedals unnecessarily, he hangs onto the ball way, way, way, way, way, way too long, he takes inexcusable sacks at the absolute worst possible times, he sometimes determines where he is going with the ball pre-snap and throws it there no matter what (See yesterday's interception), he refuses to throw the ball away under virtually any circumstances, and he throws late over the middle far too often. He just consistently makes very poor decisions (and I would argue that his poor decision-making seems to get worse as the game goes along and as the plays become more and more critical).
