Is there such a beast as a darkhomer? Going to have to check out the Discovery Channel and see if they've got a Search For... on that.
we WERE a 9-10 win team. now we arent, unless fitz can somehow get back on the field to say the outcome would be the same if fitz played is idiotic. he didnt finish the first drive. you are saying the entire 58+ minutes would have been identical? maybe the raiders dont score as much if our offense is on the field longer. maybe our defense fares better with more rest, and more time between drives to sort issues out. maybe we score more earlier, which prevents their D from knowing its pass and pinning their ears back. who knows. we probably dont win, but to say it would have been the same is kind of silly. especially since this team has rallied around fitz, had to be a huge blow to the teams morale to see him on the sideline
it will def take 10 and very possibly 11 wins to make the playoffs. Pats, Broncos, Bengals, AFC south winner are all locks. Then we have the steelers who get big ben back and the raiders who own the tiebreaker over us. raiders probably win 10 games. we'd need 11 to top them. steelers probably win 9-10 games do we need to get to 10. which would mean in your scenario finsihing the season 4-2. i dont see that happening with geno
no he hasnt. id argue they have become more frequent. he was worst last year then the prior year and yestarday was horrific from a low iq/awareness standpoint
I think losing Bell will hurt the Steelers a lot. I see both them and the Raiders at 9 wins. We'll probably need 9 and some tiebreakers or 10 for a clean make.
It's "more frequent" because his mistakes are forever magnified. Geno doesn't make a mistake and people get over it. He does something wrong and they harp on it. I watch other QB's play and I see boneheaded plays every week, Geno is not the only one, even Fitzpatrick had his share every game this season.
Playoffs??? Playoffs??? Really? With Smith at Qb and the D so uninspired, the focus should be beating Jville. If the Jets can't beat Jville the word playoffs should be banned around here.
It's magnified because he's turned the ball over more than any other quarterback in the league the past two years. Mistakes are a more frequent occurrence with Geno. I wish there were sone type of statistic for terrible sacks taken because he'd be leading the league in that category along with INT's thrown on screen passes.
This was an excellent post and in MHO accurate and correct. Geno is flawed and we saw yesterday a microcosm of his NFL career. Frankly, I have seen enough to never want him to start another games for the JETS... Petty may not be ready and play poorly but he has more upside now then Geno and if our season is in jeopardy then I rather let him get some OJT and learn... BTW - his 1st PS game vs 2nd he showed a lot of progress in one week....
He cut down on the turnovers from year 1 to year 2, QB's are making mistakes and boneheaded decisions, he's not making any more or less boneheaded plays than any other QB.
See, but when you lead the league in turnovers over a two year span that says you ARE making more mistakes than the rest of the quarterbacks in the league. That's in two less games as well.
Geno Smith threw 10 INT's in 13 starts in our own territory in 2014. Fitzpatrick has thrown 0 INT's in our own territory so far in 2015. Lets hope his season isn't over
And most of those turnovers were from his rookie year, he cut down on his turnovers which I would assume is what you'd want.
Not looking off a safety, locking on to a WR, not sliding after scrambling for a first down, missing a read, forcing a throw…etc. are run of the mill mistakes. Consistently, sacking yourself outside of the pocket by running out of bounds 10+ yards behind the LOS is just not acceptable from a NFL QB 3 years in. Frankly, I'm not sure it's acceptable at the high school level.
And we lost 6 games by 8 points or less. I can remember several plays that cost us in these games. He sacked himself vs. Green Bay to take us out of field goal range, and probably completed 5 passes in the 2nd half, lost by a touchdown. He threw a pick 6 on a screen pass vs. Chicago, lost by 8. He threw 3 picks on 8 attempts vs. Buffalo and lost the game before it even started. 4 for 12 for 27 yards against San Diego before getting yanked. I mean regardless of what you want to say about his turnover numbers going down, he was flat out terrible last year. Quarterbacks make more mistakes than simply turning the ball over even though he's really proficient in throwing pick 6's as well.
Fitz does all those things too so what's the difference? I know he's not Geno Smith. But Geno Smith doing those things seems to be a lot worse for one reason and that Geno has dirt on his hands while wearing a Jets jersey. Fitzpatrick's shitty seasons were with other teams. Look around the league QB's are doing boneheaded shit 2 or 3 times a game yet Geno gets his mistakes magnified as if he's the only one doing it.
