wanting him to succeed doesnt work. unless youve got some magic beans or a genie in a bottle or know a miracle worker that is just useless. hoping a terrible player doesnt continue to be terrible wont be very fruitful. whats the plan? it looks like signing or trading for another fitz type to plug in. someone who isnt going to make major mistakes that cost us games to salvage the playoffs this season. thats the plan. for a franchise qb? its the same as every other team that doesnt have a franchise qb. wait until the draft/FA/trade presents an opportunty to get one and roll the dice on it. you cant make the bar for geno be "hope he is good" but then say something like "well is mallet or cutler going to lead us to a championship" we have an older team. the goal is to get a qb to maximize what we do with that older talent as mac drafts the next group of new jets over the next 2-4 seasons. you dont go from 4-12 to superbowl with no qb and no pass rusher. the idea is to not continue to suck and be 4-12 rolling out the worst qb in football
the defense+run game+coaching formula doesnt work with a qb who doesnt constantly make smart decisions and protect the ball. which is why it cant work with geno
we are a 5-6 win team if geno starts the rest of the year. thats the point. we arent in the wildcard hunt if he plays
Go add your garbage to another thread like the one on giving up on the team. If you don't want to discuss the player, that's fine with me, but stop funneling your bullshit into this thread. Some people like to discuss the X's and O's of the game and my post seems to have inspired a good discussion. You're welcome to stop posting in here, no one will be offended since you've posted twice and added nothing to the topic. Also, try to get a firm grip on that stick and tug hard to get it out of your ass. It might go a long way in not being so bitter because you don't share the same opinions as someone.
Thank you for some objectivity. But isnt it a coincidence our last two draftees both sucked enough to warrant hatred......(even booed at home during intros..wtf is that!?) ? And would you say Fitz play has been judged on a slant which neither GS or MS have enjoyed? And finally I would ask (to all): We only have TWO options. So if you arent thrilled with either.....but prefer the higher peak/lower valley to the flatlands......does that make one a Geno fan boy or a Geno bot........or could you just be a realist? And conversely, are you a Fitzcepticon?....a rascist? Or just a more conservative fan. QB discussions only become ugly "controversies" when it starts becoming personal. And then you have disgusting shit going on like booing your starting QB during the intros.
I thought he played an overall solid game, considering that he hadn't played since last December, while missing half of training camp, missing preseason and missing the first few weeks of the season, all while coming in the game cold. He said that the game moved fast for him early on due to lack of reps, but he settled in and played well. He took two boneheaded sacks, I understand that he was trying to make something happen, but he just needs to concede the play and move on, he needs to limit those kinds of plays. He completed a big 4th and 19 after the draw play to keep the drive alive. I think there were plenty of positives to take away from his performance, he needs to clean up those mistakes, but this is something he can build on.
I assume jetaho has me on ignore, so he probably won't read this, but fwiw I would just ignore his rants. I don't think anyone here thinks he contributes or is persuasive. Don't feel you have a need to respond to him. Just my advice...
Geno also throws INTs others can not throw, given the same set of circumstances. Yesterday I saw the same old crap I have been watching for a while. All I do know about Geno at this point is that he is a QB we can definitely lose with.
No chance. We already have 4 wins and games against the Jaguars, Titans, Giants, Bills (x2), Texans, Dolphins. I'll bet you anything you want that he doesn't go 1-8 against this schedule, no QB in the NFL right now would.
There's no way this team wins less than 7 games, whether the QB is Geno, Matt Flynn, Ryan Mallet, fuck it: Tim Tebow. Saying otherwise is overreactionary to 1 game and short sighted. Edit: Okay, maybe not Tebow. But my point is the roster is too talented to lose to the Texans or Titans on a consistent basis no matter who the QB is.
Im sorry, but that sort of half-full perspective is reserved for the other QB, who is praised for being average. Go back to the video, forget the 4th and 19, the tds, and the 27 completions, many of which were of a different caliber than what we have been getting all year....and focus on whats important. He made mistakes. He threw an int, he took a couple sacks. Forget that he came in down 3 tds, for the first time all year, and had to play catch up all game, had a terrible defense that couldnt get off the field, no running game......Forget that at least he gave us somewhat of a chance in a game that was essentially an asskicking. Such views are reserved for the other guy, who is praised for being average. In fact, those exact excuses have already been used in his defense. The guy you are speaking of is trashed for that. Maybe its the unconscious fact that a QB we drafted early is held to a different standard than the guy who has overacheived by simply remaining employed.
Exactly. The Jets can win with this type of QB performance if we follow the formula - which is running the ball effectively and playing good D. When we can't run the ball and the D is a sieve, Geno is not going to carry a team to victory. He will make mistakes when down by a big deficit and in a desperation mode. That's not in debate. But if we can run the ball and our D plays to its standard, Geno can lead us to wins, especially with the schedule coming up. I actually was encouraged by what I saw yesterday. We moved the ball well through the air, it was a competent passing game. Of course the bad sacks look terrible but, again, this is not an elite QB and he should not be judged on that standard.
he might not go 1-8. he might go 2-7 or hell maybe 3-6. but no better the that. the jaguars arent terrible. and every team in that list would have a better QB then us. i think we would be locks to lose every game on that list other then the dolphins and titans games... which would be games we certainly could still lose we were 9-10 win team with fitz. let alone with geno. no shot at the playoffs unless fitz is back or we bring in a below average to average qb
there is no formula we can win with that include the qb making poor decisions. our margin of error is miniscule
The double standards is obvious. But look around the league how many starters are struggling guys like Kap and Stafford, even Wilson hasn't been his usual self, Bridgewater has been average, then you have the Hoyer's and the Mallett's of the world, EJ Manuel, Weeden and Cassel playing poorly as backups, I watch other QB's and see boneheaded plays from them every week. Geno made his fair share in the Raider game, but his are magnified compared to everyone else. Fitz on the other hand has had a inconsistent career but most Jets fans give him a pass because it didn't happen in a Jets uniform while Geno has dirt on his hands in a Jets uniform. I expect to see the nitpicking going forward. That's why I was calling out the double standards after the Eagles game. And I was correct considering how they're trashing Geno after the Raiders game imagine if Geno played like Fitzpatrick that week?
Pretty much the same formula when Fitzpatrick was playing? I think we can win with Geno if the defense can give us steady play and the run game gets going.
