Today Geno showed me that he is a loser. Sorry but that is what I saw out there because a third year player should have more awareness.

I'm not pinning the loss on him. He's just a crap QB.

It's gotten to a point that we hate Geno because he is a black QB lol. No people we say he sucks because he suxs more then Sanchez and I for one don't want to see him starting
lol the sad thing we would all take Sanchez over Geno if we had to pick......says a lot about Mr. Smith

I'm not rooting for him to fail. I'm predicting that he will based on what I've seen.

I wasn't suggesting that we make a blockbuster trade to trade for a quarterback that wouldn't be ready for 3 weeks in this offense. I was simply analyzing the player.

Some of you need to read and take the sticks out of your ass. It's not all about everything being rainbows and ponies and pots of gold at the end of said rainbows.

I come here to discuss and analyze football. Not try to pump up a god damn locker room to get ready to go play a game. You're entitled to your rah rah bullshit, I wanted to stimulate a discussion on the player.

I wasn't saying they've been better. But I guarantee they haven't taken two time-killing drive killing sacks back to back like that in their careers.

I don't need to go back and look at the tape. I already know in those 2 years not 3 the Jets did not have a true #1 wideout like they do now. Plus throw in the D they have this season. The TEAM is a lot more talented then the past 2 years.

Probably not, but overall I'll take Geno over those bums so what's the point in mentioning them?

We all know about his lack of awareness at times and poor decisions but he does some good things as well.....its not all a disaster and lost cause

If Geno played exactly like he did today in all of our games we would still be 4-3 IMO.....Wouldn't have lost to the Browns, Redskins, Colts, or Dolphins with this exact QB performance even with the couple Geno moments he had

So we can still win against an easy schedule if the rest of the team plays like they are capable of

I think some of it is fueled by the fact that the kid has all the physical skills to do the job nicely. It's frustrating as hell to see him do wonky things like stop scrambling when he has a clear lane to throw to a guy in double coverage. Then turn around and do the exact opposite and keep running long like he's a WR and take a brutal hit when he needs to pull up and slide out of bounds. If he could get his mental game up to snuff the kid could do something in this league. On the other hand Tebow is/was hot garbage with a fanbase that had/has an agenda. The Manziel kid is on his last NFL contract no need to even pile on there.

Oh, I haven't that's a big part of his "mental gymnastics" playing style. It's like he's color blind or something, he picks the largest group of players on the field to throw the ball at. Doesn't matter what color the jersey is, largest group of players downfield gets the ball.

I didn't read the post, but does anything think Geno Smith is good? I don't think so. If so, they are wrong.

It's easier to teach a gunslinger like Geno to game manage than to teach a game manager like Alex Smith the requisite arm talent. This is why game managers like Alex Smith and Fitz will never Superbowls whereas gunslingers like Geno, Cutler and Favre might. Geno can always be taught to manage the game better if that's what a coach wants. Coaches don't draft game managers in the first round because they can count the clock. They draft talented guys who can throw into coverage.

To be honest, throwing the ball away and cutting off a chance downfield isn't necessarily more advisable than fixating downfield and taking a chance. Russell Wilson and Big Ben often take sacks and lose games for holding onto the ball, but they also win games by throwing downfield in the dying seconds. When your team is down by more than one possession with little time to go, maybe taking chances is better than throwing the ball away.

To conclude, 1) Geno can always be taught manage a game better and 2) taking shots downfield isn't necessarily ill-advisable. Geno almost won the game in the end when B. Marshall was fouled, but the refs never called it. That's my point right there. Geno can certainly be a NFL QB.

Geno said in his post game interview that the game was going a little fast for him in the first half since he missed so much practice time. That's when he threw his INT. Also, his throwing 1 pick on a misread isn't significant when he also threw 2 TDs and lead his team down the field. Starting QBs throw picks every week. So long as Geno continues throwing TDs, and limits his mistakes (which he did today), he can be a NFL QB.

Geno sensed rushers today and stepped into open space. He only had a few scares with blitzers, particularly with Aldon Smith. In general he's shown improvement against the blitz and in his general pocket movement since his rookie year. He was only sacked a few times today, one of which was a coverage sack. He can be a NFL QB.

That aside, Fitz doesn't get sacked because he refuses to look downfield and throws exclusively short passes. Geno doesn't have to play that way to be successful. Geno can take some sacks so long as he moves the ball and throws TDs.

Geno's footwork can look bad at times and is a work in progress but he does step threw on his throws, and his general footwork and accuracy has improved since his rookie year. In today's game he didn't throw a ton of bad passes than say a QB like Foles might have in 42 times. So he can be a NFL QB.

I don't remember this play, can you link it?

Geno goes through multiple reads at his time, usually. He did today and does look off players, though not as much as he usually doe. Maybe that's rust but Geno does read coverage. And if his passes were so telegraphed, you'd think he would have a bunch of dropped INTs today for throwing 42 times. He didn't. Fitz often throws fewer times and has more dropped INTs. Geno has shown development in this area since his rookie year, though he can improve and his arm makes up for it a bit.

This is nonsense. Players play for winning QBs and if Geno wins, more will like him. There's people in Wilson's, Cutler's and Flacco's locker room that don't like them. It doesn't matter. Flacco has a crappy attitude and doesn't matter. He said Ray Lewis' inspirational speeches were stupid. It doesn't matter. Flacco plays well. What matters is play, not the above nonsense. Cutler is a not a "leader". Flacco is not a "leader". Matt Barkley is a leader. One of these guys sits on the bench while the other two are some of the highest paid QBs in the league.

He does need to put more air under his balls, especially when it comes to fades. I'll concede this is a problem but it's not insurmountable. Stafford has the same tendency. Geno was developing some touch last year and that development will continue with more reps.

He didn't do much wrong today and looked better this year than last. Most of the things you list as problems Geno has already improved on and is improving. These include pocket presence, footwork and reads. Holding onto the ball too long has its benefits and disadvantages, but even that can be fixed to a certain extent. Geno didn't hold onto the ball as long as he usually does today anyway.

    Elgoman...

I can see you put a lot of work into that post, and I'm not an alarmist or "hating" fan at all. In fact I was somewhat confident that Geno would make some progress this year, and was sincerely looking forward to watching him start.

But did you or did you not witness the sacks that he took in the waning minutes?

There is ZERO excuse for anyone playing college level football to take those sacks. He had ages to chuck the ball away on not one play, but TWO. Like AGES, dude. What in the name of hell was he thinking??? Seriously!

No, seriously. What... I mean... Like, what... WHAT? are you doing? On the field? With my team? That's losing? With time running out? between your ear holes?

In light of those plays, the rest of your argument seems kind of pointless.

Yes it is absolutely stupid pointless inane and a waste of energy to engage in ANY discussion about Smith

Sorry lots of work went into this thread thats true. Frankly the OP prob has several IQ points over Geno as does the rest of TGG

Thank God the GM knows this and not the Genobots

Mac has his work cut out for him till Draft day. All I can say I trust MM judgement on what direction we go in and IMO it will be getting a backup somewhere someway somehow NOT STICKING WITH SMITH
