Lots of teams potentially looking for a QB next year. Some of these guys are going to get way overdrafted. Jets, Bills, Browns (should be), Texans, Redskins (should be), Saints (should be), 49ers (possibly). You also have the Bears and the Lions with coaching decisions on the current QB, Bears have Fox in year 2 and Lions will have whoever replaces Caldwell.
Doubt NO can move on from Brees, considering how much he's done for that franchise. Tryod's done enough so far to keep his job for another year, IMO. I'm not sure Caldwell will get fired, though. They went 11-5 last season and were a play or two from beating Dallas, so that should buy him time as long as they win four games.
The Saints will probably move on from Brees next year barring a spectacular finish for the team. He's a $20M savings against the cap on an $19.75M salary and the Saints are over the 2016 cap at this point. It's the last year of his contract also. The Saints might well draft a guy #1 and choose to keep Brees for one more year but if things don't pick up this year they'd probably rather play the rookie and save the cap space. Rex is probably going to draft a QB next year if the Bills don't make the playoffs. He knows what the problem on his teams has been and he's not going to go with Tyrod Taylor for a second year in a row if 7-9 is what that got him this year. 8-8 or 9-7 with a hot finish might give Taylor another year but Rex is still probably drafting a QB somewhere in the 1st or 2nd round. If Taylor misses a lot of time with injuries this year the QB draft is almost a guarantee. Caldwell's last gig was 2-14 after 10-6 and 14-2 and right out the door. I don't think the Lions will have the patience to keep him through a terrible season. Not with Stafford and CJ already there. 4-12 might buy him another season but I doubt it. Less will get him fired.
The problem hasn't been Tyrod. The problem has been Rex and injuries to Watkins, Lesean MCCOY, and overall a poor OL . He hasn't been great, but he carried that team to victory against TENwithout any help and also had solid performances earlier in the year. We'll see, but I don't see a team like NO, BUF, or even DET ( some coaching, staff will talk themselves into Stafford ), taking QBS in round one , at least .
I love everyone saying things like oh Ill take that QB but no way do I want him in the first round...well then you're not drafting a QB then...anyone worth taking is going to be gone by the time the first round ends. Gotta be in it to win it
Wouls rather we kept the draft pick and fill out our OL and LB core. Fitz will be serviceable another year until we can get Bryce some starts. The 2016 QB class just doesn't look good outside of Goff.
I've really seen all I need to from Goff. At this point I wouldn't mind seeing him annihilate his draft stock with a bad stretch of games so he falls.
He was very very very bad. I do not know if he's hurt , but his velocity looks worse than it did earlier in the season and he's regressed. At this point he's a round 2 guy; very smart QB, but the concerns I had about him before the season (arm strength and frame), have appeared again.
He could see it as a result of having EJ Manuel for two games this year that his team didn't make the playoffs. I do think they win the Jax game with him at the helm. I'm just playing devils advocate here, but barring a total collapse the rest of the season I do think that could be a thought in Rex's mind. I do think they should at least get a QB in the 2nd-3rd round that's not too much of a project to play under Taylor for a year or two and take over if Taylor struggles next season.
I don't know if he's playing hurt, because he was throwing with more zip in September. I'd take him at the end of round one/early round two. I don't think Goff or Lynch will be a top fifteen picks or first round locks . Oregon was Goff's worst game of the year... worse than that five pick game in UTAH.
I've only watched through UCLA/UTAH, I'm a couple games behind but up through I've watched he's been great. I'll see if I notice a drop off when I get to this part of the schedule.
Still 5 months till the draft but here's what I've got: 1a) Jared Goff 1b) Paxton Lynch 3) Carson Wentz 4) Christian Hackenburg 5) Connor Cook 6) Brandon Doughty 7) Cardale Jones Goff, Lynch and Wentz all really intrigue me in the late first early second. Hack, Cook and Jones are mid round "can you fix em?" guys. Doughty is a nice late round flier. Those are my only 7 draftable guys for now.
I'd put Jacoby Brissett on that list somewhere. Last year was a better year for him but his receivers/play calling hasn't been help for him this year.
Unless you're in the top 4 picks of the 2nd round there's no point in taking a 2nd or 3rd round QB to start for you. You're 95% getting a backup there. They traded up for Sammy Watkins. They need to give him a good young QB or that trade up will be part of the thing that sets them back for 5 years. I agree that Rex is capable of staying with Taylor for another year however I'm not 100% sure Rex will be their coach next year and even if he is I'm pretty sure the GM (whoever that is) is going to make the call.
Not a great day for the class. Cook was in and out of the lineup because they wanted to get the backup some reps and then he got hurt to boot. Cardale's on the pine. Wentz out for the year. Brisette was okay. Excited to watch Paxton in a big game now.
