Anyone have a list of the upcoming Free Agent Qb's? With the way that things are going in Indy, maybe Andy Luck will be on the table. And of course the 2nd question is how is our $$$$ looking?
Don't get me wrong, i am not saying its a bad move. Just not sure if mac would make it. If we have a taste of the playoffs i can see him looking at the short to medium future more than the qb of the future. A taste of success can change plans quickly
True. Is Luck locked up long term...I thought he was close to the end of his first deal? It maybe Luck that wants out.. purely speculating.
From what I can tell, the club has an option for 2016. I suppose anything is possible, I just don't see someone even as someone as incompetent as Grigson saying " our OL sucks, our defense sucks, I suck....let's give up on Luck"
It'll be Fitz and petty plus either geno or a QB they get in the first 3 rnds (assuming it's a BPA pick). Don't trade for other peoples problems. Keep drafting a QB in the first 3 rounds every year until you find your franchise QB.
I think drafting a QB 1st round would be one of the most confusing things we could do. We have a good QB to build up (Bryce) and he's being marinated to be the future starter.. He can make all the throws.. if he goes out there and doesnt do well the coaching staff cant blame anyone but themselves for no prepping him properly. Theres no glaring weakness in the kids game.. this is ALL about preparation. If anything a later rd QB that can be activated from the PS makes more sense. I like our QB group.
Personally, I'd trade the house for 2-3 years of Brees or Rivers. I know it's short-sighted, but fuck it, I just want an elite QB that can actively win us games. Assuming we keep our defense in tact next year, we would be SB favorites for sure.
You like our QB group? There's no clear cut long term answer. Fitz is 32 and I can't see his game aging well, Geno is Geno and Bryce, though promising, is universally considered a longshot to pan out. We don't even know if the front office sees Bryce the way we think they see him. We're building him up as the "QB of the future" who's sitting and developing, he could just be a shot in the dark they took to see if they could get lucky. For all we know he's just a 4th round pick who could get cut in the offseason if they find another arm. His draft status leaves him with little security here, where's the Jalen Saunders, the 2014 4th round pick? Who knows. We're not going to avoid taking a QB in the first because we have Fitz, Geno and Petty. The Packers took a QB in the first round when they had Brett Favre. If we see a guy in the first round who we like we have to take him.
Because it's an awful group. Maybe not as bad as 2013, but anyone going early in Round 1 is going to be massively overdrafted and even late first might be a stretch. _
Who'd be stupid enough to do that? He'd have to play so terrible that the 49ers don't think he's gonna be able to turn things around. Who is going to give up something to get him at that point and pay him 10-15 mil. per year + bonuses? When was the last time this happened? Why don't they just trade for RG3 instead?
My problem is that Geno is likely to be done by then. He doesn't bring much as a backup for a young QB; it'd have to be for a vet, right? If we are starting a younger QB and Petty is still no3 then the backup position MUST be reserved for a veteran. But If Geno is our only vet then who is grooming who? Do we really want Geno to be the VETERAN QB on the roster helping train our future QB prospects? Fuck that. So either we are grooming him--and he needs a more veteran hand around still IMO--or he's pretty much plateaued and at this point that's pretty weak. OTOH, if we have a veteran QB starting again next year, however, then that means that AGAIN Geno has been beat out. We might be able to save money by cutting him (not sure how much) and we'd definitely be able to open a roster spot for someone else who may still have some upside. Normally I'd argue for greater patience with players, but Geno strikes me as a locker room cancer as well as a mediocre player in pretty much all facets of the game, except perhaps having a pretty good arm. So if he doesn't win a starting job by next next season I don't see him as a viable backup. I can't be,I've I'm gonna say this, by I'd prefer Sanchez over him at that point.
Yea, what is it with people wanting to come to discussion forums wanting to discuss stuff? I come here to see blank screens damnit.... now I have to wade through thoughts and conversations. It hurts my brain.
2 words: Chip Kelly. Sam Bradford's contract expires in March, if he's willing to pay $15 mil for Bradford I'm sure he'll pay for a QB who actually fits his system. But in a league where Ryan Mallet and Luke McCown have started games this year, I wouldn't rule out anybody making a rash trade for a guy who went to a Super Bowl. Someone's gonna do it.
Bryce hasn't suited up for at least the last two games. As for Geno I'd like to see him in training camp next year. He's a cheap backup. And we still don't know what he would have done in 2015. So to me Geno is still ahead of Petty. The door isn't completely closed on him. Plenty of Qbs have made it after a few years of mediocrity. But to me unless something bad happens Fitz has legitimately won the job. And should be on the radar for next year.
Brees is cooked? he's still playing well with no offensive line, no Graham, no defense, and no rotator cuff. i'd say he's been impressive.. he handles adversity as well as any QB i've ever seen.
Fitz and Petty will be here next year......with Fitz the likely season starter. not sure about Geno. if we get good value on drafting another QB, that might be it for him.
