Fitz is making 3.25 this year and is a UFA next season. And if he continues to play well and be a good game manager he'll want more money and should be able to get it. But the question is what about the remaining games this season. If he continues at the same pace he'll probably get a 2 year deal for at least 10 mil. So it's wait and see with Fitz. I would not even consider Geno. He's next year's backup. But right now I'd take Fitz for 2016.
The only guaranteed money that is tied to kaepernick is $31m in injury. It is the same type of situation that RG3 has with Washington. They could bench him and avoid any career threatening injuries to avoid paying that money. If they cut kaepernick before April 1 they save over 9m
That's what happens when people have too much time on their hands. We aren't even at the half way mark yet. Who knows whether Fitz will light it up (unlikely), implode, or get hurt and have to yield to Geno. ((((( Play out the schedule ))))).
I think a lot of this comes down to stuff we aren't seeing from Petty. How is he progressing in practice? What are they seeing from him in meetings? What's he like "leadership" wise in the locker room? The head office may or may not see something in him they want to run with. If he is developing (i hope he is for obvious reason) they can use the draft on other issues. If not they look for "their" guy.
He's not getting traded, period. Nobody is stupid enough to pay him the amount of money he was going to get with the 49ers after they dump his ass. If he's so god awful that they want to move on from him they'll have to cut him. Which isn't going to happen either until 1-2 years from now at the earliest. If anybody wants that type of QB they could just go get RG3 instead right now and that's isn't even going to happen.
This guy led the Niners to the SB only 3 years ago. He's young and cost-controlled. Put him under an OC like Gailey and see what happens. He's not owed a whole lot of money, so what's the risk?
He was a dynamic player 3 years ago because of his legs. He played on a team that had a dominant OLine, great RB, and a killer defense. Three years later and all of those pieces are gone - Has he stepped up to lead the team to wins? He simply hasn't developed as a QB, and he's not getting his legs back. I don't see him as a long term answer, so he's not worth the investment. I'd rather have the three guys we already have.
Can you blame him from thinking he was a #1 overall pick when he's been treated like one for 2 years?
This thread is why Jets fans are the WORST. Fitzpatrick is playing well, Geno is a decent back up and Bryce Petty could potentially be the future and you make a thread wanting a LOSER like Colin Kaepernick at QB for 2016. If the Jets did trade for him, it would be a mess and the circus would return to town. Good grief!
Fitzpatrick. We are 4-2 right now. Guy has an 86 rating, has 11 TDs, and 7 INTs. He is one of the top ranked QB in the league right now. Fitzpatrick is winning us games and there is no reason to switch him out whatsoever. Fitzpatrick will start, Petty will continue to grow in the background, and we will draft another rookie to grow as well.
I see it differently. Just because Fitz leads us to the playoffs this year doesn't mean he would be able to do it again next year. He's already pretty old and has a fairly significant injury history. In addition, I think any of the following scenarios could lead them to take a QB in the 1st round: if Petty isn't progressing as the Jets want and if they aren't sure at that point that he will ever be their starter, if there's a QB that they love and think is the BPA, or if they've decided that they need to part ways with Geno in addition to any of the foregoing. If Fitz gets seriously injured, decides to retire, or his play declines precipitously towards the end of the season, the Jets could decide to go into camp with a competition between Geno and Petty, or even bring in another vet to compete. In the Geno and Petty scenario (sans Fitz) they could also take a QB in a lower round. For instance, say they really like Paxton Lynch, and he's sitting there at the Jets' #2 pick.

That would be my guess also but it could fall apart in a hurry if the Jet's offensive line deteriorates.
Now? Not likely. In the off season, hell yeah. The kid has talent, his team has been stripped of much help for him. We have a very good situation for him to right his career. Very good run game, 3-4 very good receivers, great defensive support, a great coaching staff and a good group of Veterans to keep him in check. I'd take him tomorrow if he was available.
Of course injuries change scenarios. But even the ones you mentioned don't give us the fitz, paxton 1st rd, petty roster i thought was improbable
I don't know. Seems like a pretty good move to me, if we find a guy that we like that much that is. The QB class is pretty weak but if there's a guy we have a first round grade on taking him and letting him sit for a year sounds great. The fascination that our 4th round draft pick is the key to the franchise is far-fetched for many reasons. We'll obviously be taking a hard look at the OL and OLB positions but if a QB is available that we like and we have a situation allowing him to watch and not play right away, do it.
