We need a pass catching running back...we have Ivory and a steaming pile of dog crap. What's wrong with giving Rice a second chance? The man deserves it and we could use his services, putting aside all the he's a woman beater emotional bull crap

    Thoughts?

he wasn't that good in his last season before he laid out his wife. want to take a chance on him being good 2 years later on top of the noise that would come with his signing?
    I don't

I just don't see it happening. You're not wrong that we could use him, lots of teams could use him right now. The fact that he isn't playing says a lot about the amount of drama it would bring on a team from the fans and the media.

the stigma on Ray Rice is BS...we all love Richardson and he could have easily killed a kid with his stupidity...Peterson beat his kid bloody with a switch. This league is full of bad characters

Exactly. It would make the Vick protests seem like a day at the park. Unfortunately, Rice is still too toxic for any team to touch. I don't think that even Rex would take a flier on him.

He and Brandon Marshall would probably get along great.

I think a washed up Ray Rice would easily be the second best RB on the roster assuming he's stayed in shape. He'd be our best receiving RB. Hell - a season off may even have helped. He's only 28, I'd take a flyer on him and let Bowles handle the media like a boss.

^ Exactly...the media can shove it. they'll get over it quickly if he can fill a void in the offense. We already have no tight ends. A pass catching back would be a nice addition

The problem is, he's likely washed up now. His last season was terrible, and he had been noticeably declining the past couple of seasons.

If he was still a great player, I wouldn't have a problem taking a chance on him.

He isn't worth the extra media attention because he won't produce like he used to .He's lost more then a step that's why no one has signed him.And besides Ridley should be playing this week

Not worth the headache. The difference between rice and the other bad dudes in the league is a surveillance camera. The minute he signs somewhere that clip is on a constant loop with the teams logo underneath it. Nobody wants that for their team , especially on a chance he can be what he was.
Peterson's action was not caught on camera and is excusable in regions of the country, particularly some in the target demographic for the nfl can attest to have gotten the same punishment as a youth. That is why one is playing on sunday and the other has a sign this beast thread on tgg

I agree with you to an extent. But there were some pretty graphic photos that came out of the Peterson case but the league and ESPN and various news outlets didn't run them because Peterson is a first ballot hall of famer. They don't want this to follow him to that day when people are questioning his character as one of the leagues best.

It's amazing how much the league cares about the image of its stars but it makes sense. I can't imagine shying away from being a die hard fan of my team and the league but there are people out there that are willing to put the league on the back burner because of such things.

It's too bad people can't take a step back and realize there are dozens of players in the league that have done much worse than him. Greg Hardy just got an endorsement from his owner when the guy tied up his girlfriend and threatened to kill her in a house filled with guns. Yet Ray Rice is the NFL's biggest villain because he smacked his girlfriend hard on camera and she fell into a metal wall/railing in the elevator that subsequently knocked her out.

The power of media controls the league and the league controls the media to an extent.

if there was video of ap he wouldn't be in the league. if it was an adult, he wouldn't be in the league. the fact that it was a child and what he did could be and has been condoned and practiced for years from a big enough portion of the country made it easy to bring him back, 20 years ago he isn't in trouble.
the ray rice video is a killer though. there is not a single owner who wants their logo anywhere on the tv screen while that video is rolling. if you had a business, you wouldn't either. words are words, images last forever. we will never find out if ray rice could bounce back because that video exists.
