Remember "Can't Wait"? Well now we have "Damn Right!" Never doubted Harvey but this is great. And Collins helping the cause. http://nypost.com/2015/10/24/youre-damn-right-matt-harvey-is-ready-for-game-1-series-start/ You’re ‘damn right’ Matt Harvey is ready for Game 1 Series start Terry Collins had one question for Matt Harvey before he named him the starter for Game 1 of the World Series against the Royals. “You ready for it?” Collins said he asked the right-hander. Harvey’s response? “Damn right.” Collins eliminated any doubt Saturday about the starting rotation for the Mets first World Series appearance since losing to the Yankees in 2000. After Harvey pitches on Tuesday, Jacob deGrom will go in Game 2, followed by Noah Syndergaard in Game 3 and Steven Matz in Game 4. With Harvey also scheduled to start Game 5 if necessary, he told Collins “I’ll be ready” to pitch in relief in a possible Game 7, with Syndergaard getting that start. “We like going into Kansas City with our 1 and 2 guys [Harvey and deGrom] and Noah has pitched great at home,” Collins said Saturday during the team’s workout at Citi Field. “We thought that’s a good mix and obviously we think Steven Matz showed us — even though he hasn’t gone deep into games like he’s going to do in the future — but for four or five innings he’s been pretty good.” Collins had indicated he was leaning toward Harvey going in the opener in part because he felt some of deGrom’s recent command issues were at least in part due to fatigue, so he’ll get some additional rest. “Matt was going to pitch next [in Chicago if the Cubs forced Game 5 in the NLCS], so I don’t want to give him five more extra days if I can help it,” Collins said of Harvey, whose 180-inning limit that created such a firestorm in the latter part of the regular season seems like an afterthought at this point. “Jake can use an extra day,” Collins said. “We see the benefits of how he pitches when he’s a little bit better rested at this time of year, so we like that.” The rotation has been the backbone of the Mets all season and hasn’t disappointed thus far in the playoffs. Harvey will look to get them off to the same advantage they had against the Cubs, when his 7 ²/₃-inning performance in the NLCS opener started off the sweep. The Royals, though, are considered to be a deeper team than the Cubs and have last year’s postseason success to fall back on — something Chicago did not. “One of the discussions was, ‘Wow, you’re going into Kansas City and they play very well at home, they are a great club in their park,’ but we think we’ll run two pretty good pitchers at them and get one if not two,” Collins said. “We just thought it set up good that way.” _
They will def test d'Arnaud. Im surprised Mondesi was put on the roster over Gore though. Gore was amazing last postseason for them. Uribe makes sense to have over Reynolds who will never see any playing time.
And only a 20 percent chance of rain in KC tonight at 8pm. Should be able to get the game in without any delays.
http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/juan-uribe-added-mets-world-series-roster/story?id=34766619 Reynolds had been added to the roster for Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers after Ruben Tejada fractured a fibula in his right leg on a late slide by Chase Utley the previous game. Reynolds had been bidding to become the second player in MLB history to make his major league debut in the postseason, joining Mark Kiger in 2006 with the Oakland Athletics. However, Reynolds did not appear in a postseason game in the remainder of the NLDS, or against the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series. The decision to drop Reynolds leaves the Mets with no bona fide backup shortstop if Flores needs to depart a game. Johnson would be the best alternative, but he is due to start Game 1 of the World Series as the designated hitter. It is easier to leave Reynolds off the roster in the World Series than in previous rounds. In the NLDS or NLCS, if a player such as Flores needed to be replaced on the roster because of injury, it would make him ineligible for the next round as well. Now, with the Mets in the World Series, Reynolds could be added the day after a potential injury to Flores with no similar repercussion. Other than subbing Uribe for Reynolds, the Mets' roster is identical to the NLCS, with left-hander Sean Gilmartin claiming the final bullpen spot over right-hander Erik Goeddel.
I'll take Uribe over the kid. Flores isn't a good shortstop but maybe if he's injured didn't Wright play short a few times and he'd be adequate, I guess.
My guess is Uribe, who was a SS. If Wilmer is out for any extended time they would bring back Reynolds for the D
Just saw om the SNY Blog that Terry said it would be Kelly Johnson to SS if Wilmer had to leave the game
I can't believe this, saw it in the NY Post from about a week ago. This kid really grew into his massive frame...
