So I just did a whole lot of research recently regarding tires because I bought a performance vehicle which comes with summer tires and I needed to find a winter tire set.

Summer tire compound, in cold weather, becomes hard which leads to traction issues.

But like Stokes said, it was in the 60s in WA that day, those temps are too high to affect summer tires (which I have to assume came stock on a Vette).

It's more likely he put down too much power, the rear end came loose, he over compensated the steering and then the car spun out of control.

My buddy owns 2014 Z51 (pussy got the 6 speed auto) and we swap cars every once in a while and drag on The Connecta.

He doesn't change out his tires until it's in the low 40s permanently and then he rarely drives it.

Jackson was drag racing and lost control--to think his tires were the issue is like thinking Greg Hardy's issue was the bed.

    ^ Yeah man.

My buddy has the SRT challenger with 500+ awhp, when you get on it, you get quickly lose the back end.

I see it all the time with noobie drivers. They don't understand how quick the power gets to the rear wheels and they lose the car.

Edit: fortunately the car i am getting is AWD =O

That's some funny stuff there. I guess.

I think Jackson got on it, and I never said he didn't. He had to have been driving aggressively, in order to hit the pole with that kind of force, and leave all those marks on the pavement. Anyone can see that.

My point was that he wasn't *necessarily* racing anyone. He denies it, but maybe he was.

We're each entitled to our opinions, but I wasn't there - and neither were you.

And just to confuse the discussion with some facts:

A Z51 is not the same car as a Z06, which is what Jackson was driving. They make look pretty much the same, but they're different cars. If you ever taken one around a track, you'd see that the difference is noticeable.

A 2014 Z51 manual transmission has 7 speeds, not 6. So, either you weren't driving a 2014, or you missed out on throwing the last gear. It's an overdrive gear anyway, so you didn't miss much.

Also, the Z51 is rated at 450 hp. The Z06 has a supercharged engine, which is rated at over 625. That's a huge difference in power, and it's immediately noticeable. A car with that kind of power can easily get away from somone who doesn't know how to handle it.

Finally, the Z51 comes from the factory with different tires than the Z06.

I don't know if Jackson still had the factory tires on the car, or not - but - the factory Z06 tires *are* an issue in cold weather, whether Greg Hardy's bed was the issue - or not.

No it is an automatic. Pretty sure it's a 6 speed.

Why anyone would not get a stick in any high performance car is beyond me.

Sorry. Blew right past "auto" when I read your post.

    Details, details.

    ;)

    EDIT:

But, I agree - unless you have a physical challenge - having an auto in a car like that takes the sport out of having a sports car.

I'm sure all NFL players curl up with their owners manual and know the ins and outs of their $100,00+ car.
