Was very impressive with the Pats for a few games and then got released at the end of the year. Released by the Raiders after that and then again by the Pats PS. Like the move on the PS but putting him on the roster in place of Enunwa who is playing great on ST and Ewusu who has shown promise would be a bad move. Brady makes average players like this look great, not that this guy couldn't turn out to be good by himself.
I recall Phillip Thomas, was a mid round pick for the Skins a couple years ago, started a few games at safety I think. DeAngelo Tyson is a solid backup 3-4 end from what I've seen. Cadet...another Pats RB, can catch the ball. Hopefully that's not a reaction to Powell being injured. Want him back on the field vs the Skins.
Cadet had a cup of coffee with the Pats but hardly ever played. He was hurt almost the entire training camp. The Saints liked him when he was there. A small Sproles type back that would be give us someone who can catch out of the backfield if needed and also help us in the return game where he specializes. If anyone knows undrafted running backs it's the Saints. Chris Ivory, Khiry Robinson, Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, Marcus Murphy (7th round), Joique Bell.
Still no punter workouts In almost seriousness though we need to figure out the punt coverage game or we need to punt the ball out of bounds every week. We're killing ourselves by giving up what has to be at least 15 yards a return. Landry set them up nicely a couple times last week and of course Sproles. Bring back Westhoff!!!!!
Sheldon is back, TE Saxton got waived. Mentioned in the other thread it's too early for him, he needs to hone his skills on the practice squad for another year at least.
who'd we drop to promote Thompkins? or was it just room due to Enunwa? maybe he can help with returns..
Same. Never seemed to have a shot in STL with the ACL injury, temporary emergence of ironically Zac Stacy, drafting of Tre Mason, and then the drafting of Todd Gurley. Definitely worth a look.
It's unfortunate but Powell has been a major letdown. Looks like we were praying he'd be the third down back every team needs but they've now deferred that responsibility to Ivory. We are scary thin at runningback if Ivory goes down/Ridley isn't ready soon. Stacy is incredibly one dimensional and slow, and Powell basically looks like he'd be lucky to be the 3rd RB on any NFL roster. Hopefully we can find something here. Maybe go back to the mindset in the upcoming offseason we had when we first found Woodhead despite not keeping him; production and versatility over anything. It still pisses me off to this day he never got a shot here to catch passes out of the backfield. The little quick runningbacks are making a name for themselves in this league. Forget 40 time and straight line explosiveness. The days of CJ Spiller type athletes being the explosive players in this league are over. Defenders are too fast for players who are straight line fast without much else. Lewis/Woodhead/Sproles prove this.
Yeah the gap between Ivory and our backups is drastic. Ridley can't come back soon enough - it really is scary how different our offense looked against the Eagles when Ivory was out. Powell has really not cut it and Ivory's style is so violent that I don't think we should be feeding him this much every week. Would love to have someone capable to take some touches away especially against the Pats because they are vulnerable on the ground. And you are absolutely right about the shifty type. Would have loved to see them bring in Ahmad Bradshaw or someone slippery who can catch out of backfield.
Powell and "fair catch" Kerley are neck and neck for the 2015 Michael Vick award given to the player that does the best job of stealing money from the Jets and giving nothing in return.
I had real high hopes for Powell this year after the way he looked in the off season but he's been pedestrian at best in the regular season. Say whatever you want about this being a passing league, football is football and a quick elusive back in the mold of LT (not in his hayday but what he was for us) would make this offence that much better. We either need to make a move for someone before the deadline and cut Stacey or make that, along with TE, a priority in the 2016 draft. Anything happens to Ivory we may as well just pack it in.
