I'm not a Yankee fan--I don't care what they did. And if the Wilpons showed the desire that Steinbrenner showed in trying to build a winner--some day I'll give them their due. But in a few months we may be without Cespedes and Murphy. Come ask me that question then. _
It was no easy feat to beat the Cardinals. The Cubs are for real. You have to give Theo and Madden a lot of credit. But sometimes if a team beats you during the regular season things can turn around fast in the playoffs. So bring it on!
I don't care about the Wilpons right now, they are inconsequential. As for the series keys: well assuming the Mets are going to get our standard very good and sometimes great starting pitching. Well, I don't like assuming anything. But let's just say it's going to be good as usual. Almost a given. Same goes for Familia although he did struggle some in the second half of the season but overall he was very good, one of the best closers in baseball. Then the keys to the game for the Mets would have to be the back end relievers like Clippard who hasn't pitched that well recently. And the struggling bats in our lineup. If two or three of those guys can just hit .250 in this series then we're in business. But if they give us 0-fers that's a problem. But let's say if Cespedes hits we win. It's as simple as that. He's the key guy and he looked terrible last night. I think he will and the Mets win in six.
So what I'm basically saying is that the area of the Mets least likely to fail is the starting pitching. But if six out of your nine starting players in the lineup get no hits (like last night) then it's hard to win.
I would be very surprised if this isn't a 7 game series and what looks like could be a future playoff rival. I like our chances in a game 7 with Degrom on the mound.
I don't think it would be DeGrom on the mound for game 7. DeGrom will most likely pitch on the 20th (Game 3) - that gives him 4 days rest and pitches on his 5th day. Regardless if we are up or down 3-2 going into game 6, I can see them throwing him on 3 days rest with his 4th day being game 6 to either save our season or end the Cubs right then and there. We could wind up in a situation where it could be a committee for game 7 - Unless they trust Matz in game 4 and 7.
So I was guessing wrong thinking we were going with: Harvey Syndergaard deGrom Matz games 1-4 No? Then Harvey, Syndergaard and deGrom games 5-7 _
It will suck if there is no World Series and those guys leave...Wilpons have to pay up or the league will take each and everyone of these guys in a few years I love my Yankees and Steinbrenner had some rough years but man he got results...He then made a couple of solid moves in Cashman and Torre that propelled this franchise in the 90's. When the shit hit the fan we stayed together and held tough. It was beautiful to see the dissension rise on the Nats and LA as they crumbled and withered. Credit is due to our leadership....From the top down. I'm talking about Sandy and Terry, the other coaches, and guys like Grandy, Cuddy, and Johnson. This is a tough match up. But they beat a different team over the early summer, and that might of contributed to them being a slight favorite in Vegas I fully expect other guys to pick it up this series. One of our guys getting hot might be all it takes
Honestly, I was so surprised the mets won the game, it was painful to see a man on base for the Dodgers almost every inning, while the mets hitters were swinging at anything that was near the lines of the batters box. For the mets pitchers to hold down the fort and give them a chance to win the game speaks volumes of their pitching staff. The San Francisco Giants are feared in the playoffs because they can win with pitching and the occasional important single or double and right now that's what the mets are trying to accomplish. The mets beat Kershaw and Greinke, I know the Cubs have a couple of decent pitchers, but Arrieta is the only one who can even be considered in their league. If the mets hitters can somehow adjust their approach and not try for the long ball every at bat, they can take care of the Cubs.
I'm still euphoric but I can't seem to shake this black cloud. Wright, Cespedes, Duda, d'Arnaud and Flores have been pretty much awful. Some really really bad at bats--Cespedes actually looking the worst out of all of them. Well, almost as bad as Duda. I keep waiting for August to return and these guys to start hitting bombs. We gotta have them come around. _
Mets will take the series in 6. The starting pitchers are much stronger and the heart of the Mets lineup is due for some big hits especially against the Cubs pitching. Cespedes will wake up one of these games
Calm down...you just faced (Kershaw, Grienke, Anderson, Kershaw, Greinke) Most would suck for the most part there...You beat the Anderson guy and outlasted 2 Cy Young pitchers... Cubs have Arrieta and Lester, if I am Mets I wouldn't be scared of them two
