In other words: once Fitz' luck runs out we're fucked. Pure luck so far...good thing he's not stupid too
As frustrating as Fitz can be on long throws, its better than being frustrated with Geno on every throw. I dont know if I should blame the OC for Fitz attempting throws way beyond his ability, or Fitz himself, but its very frustrating. He's either been underthrowing deep routes or throwing into double coverage. Having said that, he's pretty damn good on short routes. Obviously the OL has been very good, but he deserves some credit for getting sacked as little as he is. I would love to see his interceptions broken down by the distance of each throw. My guess is 4 or 5 of the 6 came on throws further than 20 yards. He has to throw deep a few times a game, just to keep the defense even slightly honest. I'm pretty happy with where the Jets are, and there is no point in bringing Geno in. I have no confidence in Geno playing any better.
I don't care who's under center as long as we're winning . You could argue that we'd be 4-0 if geno started against Philly but that's hindsight and the Marshall fumble + punt return were equally as detrimental as fitz play was. Making the change to geno with no catalysis would be a huge mistake. That being said , it's just very frustrating wondering what geno would have done this year . Does anyone honestly think fitz numbers would have been any better than genos if he had started for this team last year ? We had no offense , a coach that was heading out the door, a mediocre defense, and one of the hardest schedules in the league . Compare all those negatives from last year to this year and they are all the complete opposite now . Fitz is just bumbling along riding the success train right now. While I do believe fitz leadership and command of the huddle definitely is a huge benefit for the team, there is no real fortitude behind the geno haters arguements. I can only hope that geno is not wasting this opportunity to be mentored and learn from someone who is a better leader. ... Sigh... But I'm sure his arrogant ass is just sitting there thinking how much better he is and when will he get back in there.
So your telling me he hasn't been lucky and not have more int's? You telling me he doesn't throw into triple and double coverage alot?
You're confusing effort and ability with results. As long as Fits brings wins, he will start. When/if "his luck" runs out, he'll be benched. The real question you should be asking is what consitutes "ran out"? Is it one loss (obviously not), 2, 3?
I think Bowles would like to see Geno more then he letting on. So if the Jets keep winning but if Fitz keep making dumb mistakes he will IMO get benched. Let not forget he has turn the ball over at least once in every game. But time will tell what happens.
Bowles cares about wins that is all. Then he cares about turnovers, sacks, and penalties. He cares about Fitz having more TD's than INT's and Fitz not getting his ass sacked but two times. And Fitz knowing what the fuck he's doing on the line of scrimmage Why on earth would he want to bring somebody in with a 8 to 11 TD/ INT ratio for a guy who has a career 13-10 career TD/INT ratio. And jeopardize a .750 winning percentage. As if Bowles secretly wants Fitz to fail so he has an excuse to bring Geno in. Lol.
I'm not saying he hoping for Fitz to fail. Plus if you hear what Bowels says is if we are winning And Fitz is playing good then he the starter.
Food for thought Geno in his first 4 games last year had 5 ints and 2 fumbles lost (averaging 230 yards a game passing) Fitz in his first 4 games this year has 6 ints and no fumbles lost (averaging 231 yards a game passing) Record Geno 1-3 Record Fitz 3-1 ..........
Let's be fair now, Geno was just as lucky in his starts. He could easily of had twice as many int's as he does. You can't just pick on Fitz's near misses and ignore Geno's. I'm not bashing Geno, I was calling for him to finish the Phily game, to see what he had, we have to find out at some point. We had a couple of games were he should of had mop up duty.
Always have two QB's ready. The Jets are fortunate in that regard. Both will be needed. Arguing about who should play is a waste of time. Go Jets!
Fitz and I'm not even sure what the argument for Geno is at this point. All we need (and all I've ever expected) from Fitz is steady, consistent mediocrity as we make our way to 9-7 and maybe a WC. If Geno takes over, the season is lost.
Wouldn't it be great if we could look into a parallel universe where IK doesn't clean Geno's clock? Seriously, I often think about what this team would look like right now if Geno had started all four games. Would he have stepped up in his third year with the new weapons around him. Unfortunately, this isn't a sci-fi novel, so we'll never know. That is frustrating, because I am also very curious to know if we do have anything in Geno.
As someone who wants to see if Geno can do as well, if not better than Fitz, it would be lunacy to make a switch now. As long as we keep winning Fitz should keep on getting the nod.
The difference is that when the Jets really needed a score with Geno under center they couldn't buy one for their life. The offense was like a series of missed opportunities and that's why the Jets were 1-3. They could have been 0-4 at that point with the offense misfiring against the Raiders also and leaving a TD+ on the field but Derek Carr wasn't going to beat Rex Ryan in his first start. When the Jets have needed a score this year with Fitzpatrick he's generally taken them down the field for that score. That's all Geno had to do against the Packers and the Lions and the Bears last year and the Jets are 4-0 instead of 1-3.
Yea - fitz has almost double the TD passes in that span and a fraction of the sacks and sack yardage taken. Not surprisingly those stats were left out. One of the biggest differences I've noticed between the two is how Fitz will get rid of the ball before a sack. Sacks are drive & momentum killers. Grown up QB's know how to get rid of the ball before they happen.
I'm not arguing for or against playing smith. It's just interesting to wonder what geno could do with our revamped offense and a much better D. I also wonder what Sanchez could have done in MM's system . . .
