Fitz, all the way. Geno Smith is more talented and athletic, but he hasn't been able to develop it or be consistent and unfortunately I don't think he'll be able to. Through 2 years he was just about the worst QB in the league statistically... I don't think you can rebound from that and become league average. The Jets are a defense-oriented team, and we need a QB who will take the plays that are available and not make too many stupid mistakes. So far that's mostly been what Fitzpatrick has done, but we've also seen the limitations. He doesn't have great arm strength. For example, that 58 yard pass to Marshall to open the Dolphins game - that should have been an 80 yard TD pass. Fitz put everything he had into that throw but it came up short, forcing Marshall to adjust and giving the defender a chance to tackle him. If it'd been thrown further that would have been an easy touchdown for Brandon, no question. It was still a good play by Fitz, don't get me wrong, but the throw came up short. There've also been a bunch of times when Fitz has thrown into double and triple coverage where he was lucky not to have been picked off. Despite all that, he is much more accurate than Smith, and much better at making decisions. He's been very good at avoiding sacks, grabbing first downs when they leave him an empty lane, and in general he seems to fit the bill as the game manager type QB that we need. It's not a Super Bowl caliber team by any stretch, but it's starting to look like a playoff caliber team and that is something to get excited about.
Well, this settles it. This is the only poll that matters: 6/6. I wanted Geno back but not if the offensive players don't. http://www.metro.us/sports/polled-j...for-geno-smith-return/zsJojm---i3vM6dubGIgVM/
6 guys out of 53 isn't exactly a representative sampling however, if this is indeed the sentiment of the offense and team overall, TB and CG would be well served to stick with Fitz until the bottom falls out if ever this year. Geno lost his job and hopefully, learned a very hard lesson. Its always the little things that can fuck up your life. IMO, his time here in NY is over but that's not my call to make. I think a change of scenery would do wonders for Geno but there's really no market for him. Sorry Genobots but nobody wants him so the reality is, Geno is on the roster because of his contract and nothing else. If the light comes on for Petty in this offense, Geno walks the plank.
6 out of 53 isn't a representative sample but there are only 12 or so players who regularly contribute to the offense and I'm assuming the 6 are from that portion, and their opinions matter the most.
I'm getting this STRONG feeling that Geno will soon to takeover and far exceed expectations. Fitz is not a December quarterback. If Jets are lucky enough to make it to the playoffs, you don't want to go to war with Fitz. Fitz is just setting things up for Geno. I'm not a Geno fan AT ALL but I think Fitz starting will workout in Geno's favor.
Does anyone seriously think we got second coming of Joe Montana holding the clipboard? Maybe I should make a thread about this, with a poll.
That is even assuming that those quotes are real. Without putting any names to those quotes, the writer could very well just be making them up to get hits on the website. Other than the punch, there hasn't been much controversy with the Jets this year and the NY media doesn't seem capable of doing actual journalism, so they need something to write about.
Nope And that's why FO will ride Fitz until the bottom falls off, regardless of how many threads you make and how much you think Geno "deserves" to start.
Why would an obvious Fitzpatrick supporter create positive quotes about Geno? The idea is to make Geno look bad by creating an idea that he has no support in the locker room and the players like Fitz better, that's the point. Are those quotes true? Could be. But Dyer is a unapologetic Fitz supporter so who knows.
This is (by far) the best Defense that Fitz has ever played with. There's something to be said about a QB who feels he MUST score 30+ points a game to even have a chance to win. Kind of like Geno last year. Having the NFL's top defense behind you giving up about 13 points a game makes the life of a QB MUCH easier. It becomes 'OK' to throw the ball away here and there. Live to play another series. Take a seat for 2 minutes and let the Defense give you the ball right back. I expect Fitz to play more within his capabilities than he's ever had the opportunity before. Getting the ball to Devin Smith will be his biggest challenge this season, and even that will come with reps.
I have no problems keeping Fitz as the starter. I would bet this he is on a short lease. If Fitz keeps playing like he is he will get benched. Because his luck going to start to run out if he keeps throwing into double and triple coverage. Let be real he doing the same thing Geno has done his first 2 years. The difference is Fitz is getting lucky by not having a lot more ints. The D is winning these games not Fitz.
I don't intend to waste time speaking to the Smith controversy since imo it's over. But I do note your post seems to be arguing with itself here. 6 out of 12 IS representative, and also that 6 of the 6 players spoken to feel the same, with no dissent, is very representative.
