Just an update...I was found not guilty of the DUI but guilty of refusing the breathalyzer so I can't drive for a year. That sucks but it is better than having the DUI on my record and dealing with ASAP classes and the ignition interlock bullshit
I am glad you didn't get DUI. But what the heck is this guilty of refusing a breathalyzer thing? Can you elaborate?
a breathalyzer is a tool cops have to measure blood alcohol content. the subject has to forcefully blow into the mouthpiece. It proves you were DUI. They get pissed when people refuse the test because then they can't prove the DUI. So to punish people for that they take away their driving rights.
It's pretty much what it says it is.. Refusal of blowing into the breathalyzer devide. My buddy had that a year ago and the lawyer told him you're better off just blowing into the thing. There are always ways to get around it or fight the results in court. He lost his license for 6 months though, not a year, and has the blowing into the device to start the car device.
Glad to hear you skated by on this one. The ignition interlock is a good thing. They should have one on all cars, because the elephant in the room here is that DUI is one of the worst things you can do. Very few cat burglars actually kill anybody but fine upstanding citizens who have had one too many to drink do that all the time.
All the time ? Actually Professor, Fatalities involving Alcohol, are less than 50% or traffic fatalities in any given year. And thats according to the USDOT... Also they equal roughly half...of the number of anual deaths by prescription drugs.
why don't we regulate them so they can't go over 65 mph too. or better yet equip all cars with real time gps devices programmed to the speed limit of the location so we can eliminate speeding all together. that would be so much better than responsibility and accountability.
Or just follow the damn law and don't drive drunk like an idiot. When you get your license, you are automatically agreeing to a breathalyzer test when you get pulled over and the cop is suspicious of DUI.
Drunk drivers usually aren't speeding when they kill people. They're just not able to control the vehicle well at the mandated speeds and don't have the reflexes or visual acuity to manage tight situations. This is also why they get pulled over so easily. The problem with responsibility and accountability as the standard is that people get killed by irresponsible, unaccountable people all the time. Having a standard in which you just trust people kind of stinks when a breach of trust turns into a dead minivan full of kids. Honestly, I don't give a shit if you hold that irresponsible, unaccountable driver fully responsible for his crime. That doesn't do anything for his victims. I'd be much happier if all cars had ignition interlocks that you had to blow into to start the engine. Would it be annoying as hell on occasion when you couldn't drive or when a part failed or something? Sure. But most of the people who die in drunk driving accidents today wouldn't die in that reality and that's worth the other prices we'd all pay in the process.
I'm not trying to stop drunk drivers from speeding. We have to stop everyone from speeding. Cars must be regulated. People die from going to fast. While we are at it, cars shoud be equipped with cell jammers so we can stop this texting while driving issue to. Car is running cell phone doesn't get a signal. Inconvenient, but we can't be too safe. Am i right?
