In order for Bowles to like what he was seeing out of Geno he'd have to *really* like what he was seeing. He has no investment in Geno at all and the GM isn't pushing him to play him. The OC is probably quietly pushing for his guy since he really wants the offense to run smoothly and Fitzpatrick is the guy who will make that happen. I'm guessing Bowles was take it or leave it on what he was seeing out of Geno in the spring and summer and as soon as Geno took himself out of consideration the choice was easy as pie.
Anyone hoping his highlight real would run a bit longer, have no fear. Flip the record over to the B side: "Geno Smith's Fumbles, Interceptions, and Brain Farts". It tuns twice as long.
Geno's gonna have a tough time getting back on the field. During practice he isn't even learning the new game plan or even playing with the offense when the game plan gets installed. He's on the other side of the field pretending to be some other teams QB running plays against our starting defense. Geno won't play one snap with the our starting offense. In fact, Chan Gailey could go the whole week and never see him take a snap. Until Fitz gets hurt, Geno's fate is sealed.
You hope! But that fact remains that Fitz' play can also still determine this, if his play does not improve and we lose a couple straight or 3 out 4 with his play being shitty, he will be out.
Unless Ivory gets hurt Fitzpatrick is going to have to really suck for the Jets to be losing games due to his play. The defense is very solid. 3 TD's a game is more than enough to win and 2 TD's and a couple of FG's gets us by unless we're giving up 2 consistently off of turnovers/special teams. The Eagles game was a loss because everything above went wrong. No Ivory and the Jets gave up a TD off of an unforced error and a punt return. The other three games the offense did enough to keep things together and the opponent was only briefly in the game after the first half.
I don;t se how Ivory will survive NOT getting hurt at 25-30 carries a game. His history kind of indicates that. That is why I hope Ridley can come back and be some kind of impact guy to take some of the load off Ivory and not be a 2 yards per carry RB. His fumbling bothers me, but he is a quality runner. He could insure Ivory staying on the field.
If we are somehow out of the picture with a game or two to play............possibly start Petty to give him some real gametime and let him make his mistakes in dead games?
100% Let him get used to game speed if we are out of it by game 15 or 16. But I think we're going to be in it until the end. I'd love to see us blow someone out and maybe put him in in garbage time to get the sense of real game commanding a huddle, taking snaps, handing the ball off, making a read or 2. _
Yeah, some of the threads that pop up on here are crazy! Anyone who wants to bench Fitz right now, and in favor of the GENOCOASTER, of all things, is out of their mind! (or not watching the games). I say this with love.
Hopefully we won't have to. The season would have to be a complete loss by then. But I was reading an article that quoted him on making reading defenses and making adjustments in the NFL, and damn, is that kid behind. No way in hell is Petty ready to run this team in one year.
I don't want to get sucked back into this whole Geno/Fitzpatrick thing, but Gailey was advocating for Geno to start in the off-season. He even came out and said Geno would be the starter. Coach Bowles eventually said there would be "competition" for the spot. Had Geno not been an idiot with the whole IK thing though, he would have been the starter.
Geno not playing is Fitz's fault or more stupid choice's by Geno?... seriously if Geno was as great as some of the posters here make him out to be he should have starting all along but a coaching staff that has seen both (professionals) that has this team winning made the choice and some geno fans think they know better? Geno has not made the same choices Fitz has made when giving the chance, that is Geno not fitz or the coaching staffs fault
Geno's not playing because the Jets have a QB for the first time in awhile. Not a great QB, maybe not even a good QB at times but they can win with him. This team is starting to look like an 11-12 win team if they can stay healthy.
The QB's job is to put his team in position to win games. So far Fitzpatrick is doing that. I think the running will eventually be his undoing but he has made big plays with his feet in the last two wins. The Jets are 4-0 in games they have held the opponent to 20 points or less. That's going to be a winning formula all year as long as Fitzpatrick doesn't run into that 255 lb LB blindside hit that everybody takes sooner or later if they're not sliding.
