Marshall was hurt last year so that was a big factor in cutler's play.

Chan as his OC would allow him to cut down on his mistakes. My buddy is a big bears fan so I saw a lot of those games last year and Cutler was very good for long stretches. You can't just watch the highlights on ESPN.

The bears defense was bad last year. The jets have a great defense. That again would help cutler. He would be asked to do less.

We have a better O line. Cutler has been getting killed for years. Thats makes a difference.

Last year the guy completed 66 percent of his passes and had 28 Td's against 18 picks. He's got a big arm and that would go well with B marsh and D Smith. Stretch the field. Our run game becomes be even better.

You can't tell me fitz is better quarterback than cutler. They both haven't won anything, but cutler has more upside. Unfortunately Cutler's contract sucks.

That contract is what makes him worse then Fitz.

If we picked him up on that amount of dollars we'd have to win and win it all now. We can't extend any of our current talent and we can't expand our depth or address our others areas of worry in FA.

You are confusing evidence in support with proof beyond question. It is definintely evidence that he is not respected. Since we don't have absolute knowledge, what evidence on the other side is there that Smith IS respected?

    Can't think of anything.

Given the weight of the evidence, verdict goes againt the "Smith is respected" argument.

    That's the way it works.

We tallked about Cutler quite a bit here early this year when there was some slight chance he would be available. I guess there is still some chance, but imo it's awfully slight, so much so I don't know if it is worth talking about.

But on the point of his contract, I don't assume any trade situation would require the new team for him to eat his whole contract. The guaranteed money in it was signed off on by the prior regime, and the general consensus is it is above market. If the Bears truly wanted to trade him and at least ameliorate somewhat the cost of the contract going forward (presumably since they would want to start over at Qb development), then they should be willing to take a haircut on the contract. Meaning they would have to pony up some of the money get the new team to agree to take it over.

Not saying this is going to happen, or even if it did how much would be involved. But I don't assume the price would be dollar for dollar what is in the contract.

I know all about Cutler and the Bears. My brother has been a die hard Bears fan since I was a little kid. You don't need to give me a lesson.

I never said Fitz was better. They're about equivalent and Fitz's contract is way less. I'll take Fitz.

Edit - Oh and if you actually watched the Bears games like you suggested I do, you'd know that a lot of those TDs came in garbage time.

Yeah, I agree about the whole INT piece, but people are acting like Fitz is just throwing balls directly into the defender's bread basket...which isn't the case. Oh well, he's still on pace to throw more TDs this year than Geno did the last 2 years.

.750 winning pct. while our 'proven savior' Geno is wasting away on the bench having to teach our clipboard-holding 3rd string rookie the in's and out's of NFL life and QB play. . It's just not fair.

    Switch QBs!

This is the best start Geno comment on the forum!

Option A) Fitz under centre not losing us games, 9-7 possible PO hopes but Geno tutoring Petty on how to be a QB.

Option B) Geno taking us to 6-10, 7-9 but Fitz giving Petty the benifit of his nous, experience and Leadership full-time.

Makes it a much harder call.

I wan't trying to give you a lesson.

I, as well as most of us on the site can't watch all the games in full. Because of my friend, I was just in situation to watch more bears games then I think most Jet fans would.

A lot of quarterbacks get garbage time TD's. Especially if you play for a bad team. It's still 28 passing TDs. More than any quarterback for the Jets has thrown since Vinny in'98.

Fair enough. Fitz is on pace for 28 TD's on the season, so hopefully he'll be our first since Vinny. :)

If fitz throws for 28 TDs, with this defense, we will be in great shape. Very happy with the season so far.

I agree. This is the most excited I've been for a Jets season in a few years. It's remarkable how well our defense is playing considering we have 4 new players in the secondary and a new coach. It usually doesn't click that quick, but I am more than happy with how they've played. To think that they will probably get even better as the year goes on...just awesome.

If Fitz can start landing passes within 10 yards of D.Smith, we'd score 30 a game.

But..remember Smith hasn't even had practice time....

Have to wonder how much if this is route running. He's just been SO off with passes to Smith. It's not like he's missing anyone else that badly.

wasn't route running a knock on smith coming in too?

    That's the knock.

But Smith has hardly had any time to work on it, and to get reps in with Fitz. They need reps, it's critical

The key imo is having Marshall and Decker healthy and playing together with Fitz.

Enunwa and Smith are role players that could make some back breaking plays, but it's gotta come come off of Ivory, Marshall, and Decker.

    Gotta give Smith some time
