And I would add, that Bowles is a hard guy to figure, he plays things close to the vest, but his first reaction to Geno's and IK's antics was complete disgust. It was apparent in his voice and very uncharacteristic for him. I believe there is more about Geno he does not like. This was the icing on the cake. He is stuck with him if Fitz should implode or get hurt, but I think he really does not care for Geno.

Wow people are still arguing amazing. Let me see if I can help for all the Geno fans that say Fitz sucks I agree he does suck but what does that say about Geno? If Fitz's sucks as bad as you say why is there no talk from the coaching staff in replacing him with Geno? It says they think he sucks worse than Fitz no matter how you spin it. No matter what weird stat you try to use the coaching staff does not feel Smith is better for The Jets at QB.

Until fitz plays worse than coaching staff thinks Geno will play Fitz is the starter. QB is more than making throws but it is leading and minimizing the mistakes and making key plays to win a game. Fitz does this decent enough that the Jets are 3-1 and outplayed the 3 teams by alot and outplayed the eagles in the second half. He is not the QB to bring you back from four scores but when did Geno prove he could do that?

I'm of the school either you have the intangibles or you don't. I'm not saying people or players can't develop, but pocket presence (Fitz does an outstanding job of moving inside of the pocket, understanding the blocking scheme and assignments at the snap and understanding of the recievers routs and hots) is something iv never seen Smith do. Is that something he can develop? Who the fuck knows but at 3-1 I'm not willing to find out.

But if that time comes, I will be very interested to see how he handles himself. I'm a jets fan so I'll root for him with all I have, but iv seen that movie Before and don't like how it turns out...

    It's not sad, it's pathetic.

We entered this season as a big fat question mark, we're 3-1 behind a journeyman QB who hasn't be better than average and we have a bunch of Geno fans clamoring for him to start based upon his all world potential.

Like he's going to become Rogers or Luck or even Russell Wilson.

So there is a new legion of Tebots- you've literally got like 4-5 dudes derailing game threads and bombing the board with Geno nuthugging- you've got shonnfrank who signed up a month ago with 250 posts all of them exclusively about the fantasy of who Geno could be, you've got SoCal with 200 posts since 2012 whining about Geno and noob Ubiquitous with 90 posts total exclusively about Geno and WhySoSerious and KingKoopa with a barrage of Geno stats, all of them arguing that they aren't "Geno fans" and all they've been doing is making a case for why a 3-1 team should sit their starting QB for the potential of how the worst starting QB in the NFL over the last 2 years could set this team into the stratosphere.

With all the excuses and caveats about lack of talent around him and bad coaching and "he was the starter" (failing to acknowledge that Fitz had a broken leg) and PERFECT GAME against Miami (failing to acknowledge that the Fins -who had quit on there coach and already had bags packed and their tee times set) and Fitz sucking and let's "roll the dice" on our season (while 3-1 lol) and what could have been with Marshall and Geno instead of Greg Salas blahblahblah.

Of course they'll "support Fitz" all they while shitting on him and calling for Geno to start.

Yeah, not Geno fans mind you.

    Right.

It's not about Geno, I would say the same thing next season if it's Fitz and Petty...It's about seeing if a third year player with NFL caliber physical talent could do better than a known backup caliber journeyman

It's really that simple atleast for me....why is that so hard to grasp?

Lets just face facts here. Fitz's arm strength isn't giving any Jet Fan the warm and fuzzies. He's scary sometimes with his decision making. We're 3-1 with him however, nobody is really comfortable even with us being at 3-1. We're all waiting for the opposition to take away the slants and the midrange stuff and force Fitz to make the sideline and medium range throws over the middle consistently.

None of this matters at the moment. Most teams are one sack away from the next QB. Best to have the backup prepared no matter who it is. The bye week is a good time to get the rust off.

He's built up some devoted haters, but I don't personally care about liking or hating a particular player. I want the team to play the best players with the most talent, and I think this could be a missed opportunity if we ride it out all year with the limited journeyman. The fans who hate Geno have a serious agenda, it's irrational at this point.

This is all true, and I think Geno is fairly intelligent as well. It's about reaction time and reaction to pressure and the ability to consistently make a quick throw instead of endlessly weighing the options until the defense makes your decision for you.

There's nothing that I've seen out of Geno after his first half dozen starts that suggests to me that he has the reaction time necessary to play QB in the NFL. He was making mistakes before that but he was also making quick passes. Then the interceptions began to pile up and the quick passes mostly stopped and he's just been a bad NFL QB since that point. The retreating against pressure, which he does all the time, is just insane. You can't keep moving towards you own goal line under pressure. You have to get rid of the ball or take the sack, not add 5 yards to it and increase the chances of a fumble.

Agree with all you said here. Sadly, the alternative is the fumbling, pick 6 machine we have on the bench. Either way, it's not good. At this point, Ill happily take the guy that hasn't handed games away like Geno does.

Agree. For a veteran quarterback, his decision making can be rather disconcerting. To me, it all comes down to being able to play as a run-first team. The only time we ever consistently won with Sanchez was when we were in the top 5 in the league in rushing attempts. The key to me is keeping Fitz's attempts down to a reasonable number. This is done by running the ball well and avoiding big deficits.

If you're from the Parcell's tree you want a QB who clearly handles the leadership role well. Almost everything else is negotiable but if the guy is not well respected in the locker room he can't play for you. I think Bowles was reacting to the IK incident alongside the reaction of the rest of the Jets locker room, which was muted to the point of being non-existent.

If you're an NFL player and you're not a total loon you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the starting QB is off limits as a target. The coaching staff reinforces that with the red shirts and the locker room reinforces that with the biggest guys in the room, the offensive line, having his back all the time, and it's just a given that you do not touch the starting QB in any way that could cause harm to the team's chances.

IK Enemkpali may be a total loon but aside from that it's clear the Jets locker room just wasn't engaged in Geno's defense, either during or after the incident. It took a guy who just joined the Jets this year after a long NFL career to speak up on Geno's behalf days after the incident occurred. Marshall knew that nobody touches the starting QB. He was probably shocked that nobody jumped up in Geno's defense during the incident or in the aftermath. Then he did what he had to do in the absence of that normally autonomic response.

LOL the Fitz supporters are so hypocritical.

    1) They will claim Fitzpatrick takes care of the ball better and doesn't make costly mistakes. Fitzpatrick has 6 interceptions on the season. He honestly should have 12. He's on pace to throw 25 interceptions for the season. Geno threw 18 and 21 interceptions the 2 last seasons with a worse supporting cast. So how is Fitzpatrick on pace to throw more interceptions than Geno did in his 1st two seasons with a stronger supporting cast ? lol.. It's only been 4 games, but he has thrown 6 picks against a cupcake schedule. Wait till the opponents get tougher and his interceptions will skyrocket. We will end up losing games that we should've won.

    2) If Fitzpatrick is throwing duck passes now and struggling to get the ball down the field in warm weather then wait till the weather gets colder. Those soft throws are going to be picked off by linebackers.

For the record, I don't think Fitz is good and I am constantly worried about him fucking up. BUT, can we wait until he actually fucks up? He has played to a 60.7 completion percentage, 78.1 QBR, and 3-1 record. Overall, not great, but good enough, so far. He hasn't really lost us a game yet (although, he was very mediocre against Philly). So, my question is, are you arguing that we put Geno in right Now? If so, on what grounds? And, if not, then what's your point?

Who the fuck taught you math?

Besides if we're going by averages Fitz is on pace for 28 TDs.

That's more than Geno threw in two years.

Yeah, let's start Geno right now.

I think what the Geno crowd consistently ignores is that Geno provides no proven upside. He was arguably the worst tenured, starting quarterback in the league two years in row (or, very close to being the worst). Sure, he may have more potential than Fitz (perhaps, much more), but there is nothing to firmly indicate that any of if will ever be realized. It COULD all come together for him, OR he could just shit the bed again. Who knows? Well, the bottom line is that the Jets aren't rolling the dice until they have to.

    Sheer whininess demands Geno starts.

    That's it.

We were not contending for a SB this year and all anyone wanted to "win games" was average QB play, not total shit QB play.

We've gotten average QB play and we're 3-1.

Geno balloon knot lickers need to tuck tail and root for Fitz to fail so their savior can get his shot.
