As for off season moves at Qb, and whether Fitzpatrick is still with the team, imo much depends on what happens in the FA market and who the Jets might be able to draft. Petty will be in that mix, although ftr I am far from counting on him as some here are. Regarding FA we saw how difficult it was to upgrade there this past off season. Other than perhaps trading Wilkerson, I don't know what else the Jets FO could have done to improve over obtaining Fitzpatrick. And would trading Wilkerson have obtained equal value? Hard to say yes to that one. I was I think more frustrated than most because I did not want Smith back. But in hindsight perhaps getting Fitz was the best they could do. Is there any reason to think the FA market for Qb's will be better this coming off season? I don't think there is. So even if the Jets go back to the draft and use a high pick on Qb, it is quite possible Fitzpatrick could be back for 16.
The people that don't have an open mind whatsoever should read this I think our team outside of QB play could be a top 3 team....we look that good everywhere else. It really wouldn't hurt much to see what Geno can do when we are already getting poor QB play overall...that's all some of us are saying Fitz can also be mature enough to go right back in if Geno proves to be worse so it's not a huge deal to me Realistically it will take the Jets losing which we all hope doesn't happen....Hopefully Fitz can improve some decision making until then Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think your point is two fold and I get where you're coming from. But right now how can Bowles justify a switch right now? It isn't like Fitz is playing terrible, he's been alright.
If the "worst version" of Ryan Fitzpatrick includes scrambling for 38 yards and 3 first downs, 1TD vs 1Int and a win, I think the Jets are going to go far.
The only real way would be just to say that Geno was the starter...he is now fully healthy and we have 2 weeks to prepare In the real world, with a first year regime it would take a huge set to switch it up so we're not going to see that happen I truly believe that he needs to be on a short leash though going forward This is all assuming that Geno is doing the right things behind the scenes and looks good in practice ....putting in a huge effort to get his job back.....Obviously if he doesn't seem to care then the point is moot and Fitz it is 100% I get both sides but it's just my personal opinion to see what we could potentially have Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If he plays the way he did against the Eagles and Dolphins, who are a combined 2-6, against a team that doesn't blow, we'll get slaughtered.
So far Fitz's turnovers are down the field where a team can survive a turnover. Geno was turning the ball over in the backfield and at or near the line of scrimmage. No team, no matter how talented can win consistently with those types of turnovers. They won the game but they didn't use Decker properly. Its like Gailey and Fitz had a brain cramp and forgot just how dangerous and OPEN Decker is when lined up opposite Marshall.
Good post. This is how I feel. Geno will get his turn, Fitz doesn't have the talent or consistency to stick for all 16 games At some point Fitz is going to make Bowles feel as desperate as he made Bill O'Brien feel last season, even if the record is still a winning record.
I agree, Decker hasnt been used properly. But he has been injured and I wonder how healthy he was yesterday. Hopefully Deck and Marshall remain healthy through the year and D. Smith gets up to speed or Owusu comes back healthy.
You do a switch if the QB is proven. Geno is more physically talented than Fitzpatrick but Geno isn't proven enough to make a switch for the reasons you laid out. Geno gets in if Fitz sucks or he gets hurt.
Am I the only one who's indifferent about who starts? Geno and Fitz are both average at best, with very different strengths and weaknesses. I don't think it matters too much who's quarterbacking this team for now, since we are winning. The facts are Geno has looked terrible with some good flashes in his two seasons, but on a team with extremely little talent on offense and a smattering of good talent on defense. It's not a stretch to say he would be better with another year of experience and a major increase in talent on offense. Also I think his bonehead plays would decrease because there would not be as much responsibility on him to carry the team given our revamped D and improved skill players. The Jets are winning for now and I'm fine with Fitz, but I have a feeling it might get ugly against a good team, and I would not hesitate to bring in Geno.
After 4 weeks, Good Fitz is: Tied for 8th in TD's thrown with 7 1st in sacks per game (a very low 2 on 145 attempts) This is due to both the excellent line play and his quick read and release. 0 fumbles lost Tied for 7th in pass plays over 40 yards with 3 of them (??!!) Bad Fitz is: 3rd in INT's with 6 26th in YPG with 231 Tied for 20th in pass plays over 20 yards Branden Marshall is 6th in receiving yards and 7th in TD's and YPG (400 and 3) Mixed bag overall I admit. But TD's, Sacks, INT's and Fumbles are the biggies. I can give a crap about yards per game if the team is winning. And of those, after the first quarter of the season 3 out of 4 (TD's, Sacks, Fumbles) Fitz ranks BETTER than average. Like I said before, I'll take it!
Truth is we've had a cupcake schedule if you really look at it in perspective. The key has been Brandon Marshall. He's making Fitzpatrick look somewhat average. If Fitzpatrick had Geno's supporting cast from the last 2 years, then he would've been posting the same horrible results as Geno did. Let's not kid ourselves about that. Same thing with Mark. He looked adequate in 2010 when he had a strong supporting cast. But his play dropped off after the talent at key positions were cut off. You need to surround your QB with talent in order for him to succeed. Fitz may have 6 interceptions but he should honestly have atleast 12. Let's be honest, he's been very fortunate that some of those ridiculous throws in triple coverage have not been picked off. That shit won't work against New England and Buffalo. Those throws will turn into intos returned for touchdowns. Through 4 games he's still making the same mistakes but opposing defenses have not capitalized yet with the exception of Philly and look at the outcome. Sooner of later, those interceptions are going to balloon up. Fitz is the starter for now but he doesn't have any strong hold on the starting job. If Geno is practicing and outplaying Fitz again, don't you think it's going to cross the coaching staff mind that Geno should get another chance? Especially with how limited Fitz been with some of his throws. People are so quick to bash Geno because of the last two years but won't factor in how bad the talent level was on those teams. No QB would've done well throwing that hot garbage the last two years. Let's not be biased about that. Geno actually started out alright last year when Decker was healthy. Once Decker went down, he really had no one to throw to. Look how bad Fitz looked when he didn't have Decker in the Philly game. He kept forcing it to Marshall. In my opinion, the strong supporting cast of this team would make Geno look solid the same way the 2010 supporting cast made Mark look solid. Geno's arm would really open up the offense and deep down the coaching staff knows this but won't pull the trigger on the change due to public scrutiny. But I feel Geno will get another chance at some point this season because Fitzpatrick has not looked great at all the 1st 4 weeks of the season. But if Geno does get another chance, then it's up to him to play well and keep it. Otherwise Fitzpatrick will come back in and remain the starter.
Read it. The responses are better than the article. More gibberish from a Geno fan waiting in ambush.
Yes, in the middle of all of those bums was santonio holmes, the consumate professional. Perfect environment for a rookie. Did you say Cumberland? The guy we have now, on the team with "no TE"? Ok. We'll see how much longer we can win with Fitzpatrick. What else can I say? We will see.
Thank the Lord we have such a weak starting qb with a brain who is winning us games. Rather than a strong arm qb who doesn't use his. In the QB position brain over brawn every day.
The message is mainly that the Jets are winning even with poor QB play....How is that gibberish? We have played 4 losing teams and our defense has put our offense in great situations every game....Not to mention the O-line, Ivory, and Marshall playing great Fitz has done just enough to not screw it up....this works against bad teams with poor defenses Nothing about Geno in the article Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
