Fitzpatrick isn't an authority on winning by any means, as his lifetime record shows, however he's made a lot of good decisions this year alongside the occasional bad one and so the offense has been able to move when it needed too. At some point that may change but I don't see a murderer's row of defenses coming up against the Jets and I don't think they're going to be bad against mediocre defenses.
Possibly is what you go to when the current thing has failed. Until then the thing that is not failing yet is much better than possibly.
I liked Geno in year one when he was a rookie and even though he had a bad year two I was OK with him as the starter this year. If he is made the starter at some point this season I will be rooting for him and the Jets. But sorry I cant deal with the drama and the idiocy anymore. Getting his jaw broke and losing his starting position over $600 and a stupid argument tells me all I need to know about his head. Not to mention how the team didn't rally around him and seem to have embraced Fitz. It makes sense, despite Fitz' sometimes poor reads and errant throws he is a calming and stable presence at QB. Only folks on this board clamor for Geno, as if he were some franchise savior.
To me, Fitzpatrick knows what winning requires. He just may not have the tools to make it happen easily. He is physically limited, skill-wise. But I still want him out there until smoke starts coming out of his ears.
Well spending an off-season with competent coaches and just naturally working, studying, and growing from a young QB into a 3rd year player....He has the physical tools we all can agree with that There's a very small chance he turns into a great QB but I think he could be a decent option all things considered in this situation IF he were able to cut back on the fatal mistakes.....He's had his moments even though some Jets fans only choose to remember the terrible ones
OK so a 30+ year old vet is suddenly going to improve? Fitz is what he is and it's just a matter of when he will be exposed, not if He's not failing now because our defense is playing absolutely lights out and getting turnovers at a crazy rate....The offense is otherwise very solid as well
Fitz does not carry a team. He cannot. Find me one team Fitz has played for that was as good as this team is right now. I cannot think of one. That is how bad they were. Because this is a team that is still in transition, but traveling in a very positive direction with a very nice schedule staring it in the face.
I'm not arguing with you about Fitzpatrick's chances of succeeding. I'm just arguing that they're better than Geno's chances of succeeding given what we've seen out of Geno in 2013 and 2014. If Geno winds up on the field I'll be rooting for him as always but I'm definitely not going to have a "we're probably going to win" feeling like I've had going into all 4 games this year.
Why does anybody think that Fitz is here for more than one year? I don't. He is the best option at present
I'm just arguing that he might not be the best option this year....he very well may be but Fitz is not playing well enough to justify not atleast checking out Geno Maybe others disagree but I don't see a huge downside in atleast seeing what Geno can offer us in this offense, with this team....Go back to Fitz if he sucks badly but it's worth atleast seeing to me
how many teams with 3-1 records fiddle with their QBs mid season? Sound administrative policy for a front office?
He could easily be the veteran backup for the Jets for a few years if Petty or Geno or somebody they draft next year looks good enough to put behind center next season. He could also be the stopgap next year if the solution looks like it's on the roster but a year out. I'm kind of thinking the 2018 QB is not on the roster yet but I'd be really happy if that turned out not to be true. The thing to remember about Fitzpatrick is that he's always going to be the best Plan B for the Jets as long as Chan Gailey is the OC. Look what they've gotten out of the offense so far this year with key pieces in and out and Fitzpatrick clearly past his best days as a thrower.
As much as Fitz frustrated me today...and he made me want to pull out what hair I have left...I have to agree with everyone and anyone who says you don't jack with the QB when you are sitting at 3 - 1...period. That would make me question Bowles as a coach and you would lose the locker room instantly.
It's a really unique situation....You can always say Geno was the starter (Which he was) You don't really see many teams with a winning record and poor QB play but here we are.....Browns, Dolphins, Colts, and Eagles are all below average teams and we have just been that dominant on defense
