It's the easy move that no one can give him shit for...Stick with the guy that happens to be under center at 3-1 Also I will concede that it's not a horrible idea to not mess with success Let's hope Geno keeps working and has improved if/when he's called on Until then I hope Fitz plays well
No his INT wasn't deflected it was a bad throw, which should've been a penalty because the DB pushed Smith to the ground. You don't see him throw ducks to wide open receivers? Fitz can throw lasers but then he has those moments when his passes look like wounded ducks. Look at his pass to Decker that he sailed over him, horrible throw. He has looked shaky, but he does enough to help us win games and that's all that matters.
I'm sure there were Ravens fans in 2000 who were certain that Tony Banks should be put back in at QB because Dilfer looked like a mess out there at QB from time to time.
Who did I compare Fitzpatrick to? I said Fitz has looked shaky but he does enough to help us win games. You're now talking about something totally different to deflect, from what we were originally talking about.
May have to see that INT again to see what caused the weird spin on the ball. He does throw ducks, makes INTs and all that but he doesnt throw them right into a DB in our half of the field. Again, 90% of the time he is right where he belongs...Being average. Now with Chan Gailey and a good O-Line and strong running game and awesome WRs, he looks slightly better then average. I will take Fitzy's 3 and outs then dumbass decision making with our past QBs
I'm not talking about something different. I'm adding in the part that you left out which is that Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't playing in front of a good QB who would clearly be better in the job than he is. Your criticisms of his play all imply that there are better options out there for the Jets and right now there aren't better options out there for the Jets. Geno is maybe a sideways option who would give us a better arm but less overall accuracy (despite Fitzpatrick's evident flaws in this area) and would have none of the veteran leadership that Fitzpatrick is giving the offense right now. If you're winning don't go sideways at QB. If you're losing by all means go sideways at QB. If the Jets were 1-3 right now Geno would be on the field after the bye.
No, you're changing the argument. I said that Fitzpatrick looked shaky in most of his starts this year, but he does enough to help us win games. You said he didn't while attempting to take shots at Geno. Let's stick to the topic at hand, how has Fitzpatrick NOT looked shaky in his starts so far, and at least we can agree that he has helped us win games? We are winning this year so does it mean that your criticism of the special teams is not warranted? How about how shaky Cromartie has looked? He gets beat a few times a game but does things to help us win too. How about Devin Smith, is it fair to call out his shaky play, how about Cumberland or Enunwa? Why is Fitzpatrick exempt from any criticism? Our punter has been shaky but we're 3-1 so we can't talk about him shanking punts on occasion.
Fitz isn't great, but I've seen the alternative. A guy who runs backwards instead of stepping up in the pocket, who can't read defenses, who treats the ball like a loaf of bread when carrying it. I'm not a fan of Fitz, but I like winning. Fitz is winning.
We have the best WR's for a QB like Fitpatrick , big guys who will out jump out physical guys for the ball 99% of the time. He's a chucker not a passer.
The only reason I'd see us getting rid of Geno is because of his immaturity not the organiations belief that he doesn't have untapped potential. I think the CS had a belief that Geno was going to do well for us this season until his boneheaded lack of maturity reared it's ugly head. It'll be an interesting off season for sure.
There are a lot of things that go into winning games outside of QB play. Fitz leads the NFL in INTs so let's not act like he isn't making mistakes. When you have a guy running like Marshawn Lynch and a D that can also approximate the Seahawks D, you are going to win football games no matter who is at QB. Don't let the record deceive from the QB's play. We have guy who is backup caliber talent and who has turned the ball over a bunch, certainly as much as the guy on the bench who everyone contends is the shakier player. And it's not like Fitz is being asked to do much, he has great starting WRs, a RB that is playing great, and an OL that is giving him a lot of time to throw. This guy did not win the starting job. He was not brought here to start. Through 4 games, he has proven to be the backup caliber player that we all knew he was. If you want a chance at a great season, you have to play Geno at some point. The ceiling for a team this great is VERY low with Fitz playing all 16 games. It will turn to 9-7 or so, no matter if our D and running are ranked #1. You just cannot put together a big time season with a guy at the QB position who has legit 7th round talent. It gets exposed. This is a schedule-driven 3-1 right now, and maybe we can get a schedule-driven 9-10 wins. But this team has zero chance to be great with Fitz under center. Maybe there is only a 5% chance to be great with Geno (if he has improved and plays up to his talent finally). At the end of the day, give me a 5% chance over a 0% chance.
Look at all the teams with big salaried QB's that have been disappointing this year. Tannehill, Kaepernick, Bradford, Alex Smith, Stafford, Cutler (even though he had a win today) not to mention busts like RG3. As of the first quarter of the season and given his salary hit I'd rather have Fitz with real weapons and an elite D than half of the QB's in the league.
Geno hasn't proven he is that much of a better option than Fitz though. Yes he has better physical tools, and I was hoping he would take a step up this year, but having better physical tools don't always mean he's the better option if he's unproven, a lot more goes into playing qb. I just hope if/when he gets his shot he steps up.
For the record Fitz doesnt lead the league in INT's. He has 6 to Luck and Winston's 7. And I call bullshit on Fitz not being able to improve. He already has decent chemistry with Marshall and Decker. If he synchs up with a third, whether that is Owuso, Smith or Kerley he will be much better. Alot of his errors today I think were because he and Smith were not on the same page.
