I don't really believe it was the contract, I think it's Bowles' system that suits him better. He doesn't seem the kind of player that plays at a 100% only if you pay him.
Now that's not fair to Davis. Your 87 year old mother might be quite elusive. Does she still have the moves? Break tackles? Have other people tried to take he down? If so, was it only Davis that couldn't handle her badassery? These are key points.
Are you fucking blind? What games are you watching, I mean, seriously you don't know shit about football if you think he's been awful. PFF has him ranked as the #1 ILB so far, and that isn't something that's necessary to realize he's been great thus far. Hope you keep up the bullshit, though, so you can get banned.
Hated the deal at the time but admit I hated the idea of him in teal or in upstate even more(both were heavily rumored suitors). He has been playing well & is a Jet at heart. A lot of his coverage issues seemed to have been eliminated in Bowles scheme..those ugly dropped wheel routes aside. I'd like to see him as more of a 2 down player starting next year.
Can't believe he's still on the Harris hate train. I could understand it a bit before the season, but he's on it 3 games into the year when he's been playing very well? Also, jerseyjay, Spikes sucks. He would have been a downgrade. Me thinks he doesn't want to admit he was wrong.
LOL! Thanks for the response! My Mom is in assisted living which is a step below a nursing home. Maybe when she graduates to a nursing home Davis can corral her.
That makes two of us. I wanted him gone. Luckily we're not the GM. Harris seems to be the player that organizes the defense and god damn the guy can hit let alone the fact that he always wraps up. Davis thrives at stopping plays before they get going but the unfortunate part is that he's a god awful tackler and should never be left in man coverage. Not many backers can cover runningbacks in this league but we now know he can't under any circumstance be left in man coverage.
the plays will even out. good nfl players arent going to drop passes all year when they burn him. the guy is a 2 down player being paid like an all pro. he needs to sit on 3rd downs and is drastically overpaid
Do you watch the games? If Harris sits on 3rd down guess what? The Jets don't force that fumble on Andrew Luck on 3rd down in the 4th QTR to help seal the game. It's about putting players in positions to succeed and make plays - that's what Bowles does. That play you keep bringing up, it didn't work out in the end for the offense, I am sure Bowles will adjust. Just quit the bullshit, you were wrong.
Sure, all fans with all teams tend to be critical. I get that. But OMG. Are some Jet fans looking to get the price for the most unhappy, clueless and ungrateful fans of all? It is one thing to be honest and critical about a players performance, it is another to trash those that are actually playing lights out for us and making a difference. Harris is the classic example of an overachiever, heart and soul type player that leaves it all on the field, provides invaluable leadership on every play and elevates the game of those around them. Although I was somewhat doubtful of his future contributions I stand corrected for now. He is worth every penny and then some. Is he a liability against the pass with shifty runners and TE, yes, he can't do that alone. But so are damned near 95% of all ILB in the league right now. He can't do it all, and there are very few that can contain and cover the likes of Mathews or Sproles in the open field. Are some of these fans for real, are they looking at his total body of work or just focus on one thing to critize. Geez he is the least of our problems. Next we can move on and trash Marshall for his mistake last week, but forget the fact that he has done more in three games with constant double coverage that probably the sum total of our whole WR core of last year during the same number of games. We are far from perfect, we should accept that, and try to be critical of things that really need fixing. OL play, TE missing in action, special team play, QB, and yes even adding some serious speed with strong tackling at ILB and OLB. But removing Harris from our defense would be IMO as dumb as dumb is. I do believe Bowles is smart enough to know that you don't fix what ain't broken, or worst, what is actually working well.
How is that going to even out? He'd need about 3 horrible games straight for that to happen as good as he's been. I can't think of ONE negative play from Harris so far. Against the Eagles Bradford threw a perfect pass on a wheel route over Harris' head that Sproles I believe dropped, and that was with Harris showing really good coverage there, he couldn't have played it any better. He's the last guy you'd want to call out on this defense. I mean really, the last guy, because he's been our best defensive player. Actually our best player period.
I think Harris has earned every $ on his contract. Outstanding member of the Jets, true vet contract. The 'tackle machine' 'hitman'...I love David Harris. The only player overpaid in the last 5 years with the Jets is the OP's avatar...that guy never earned it. Sole reason we were forced to deal Revis in the first place.
