I agree. Especially if due to injury, if Smith is out there it means the season is over. And if it is due not to injury but because the CS buys into the mindless views of Smith supporters here that Smith "deserves" another chance, then it's even worse since that would mean the new guys don't understand the game. Just like Smith Fans don't.
Let me ask you this? What would be so wrong with putting Geno in and seeing what he can do? It not like Fitz is playing that good. We both know Fitz Int's should be higher. If Geno comes out like the past 2 seasons sit him back down and but Fitz back in.
The only reason Fitz is the starter is due to injury. Geno was the better qb in camp. Pretty much any QB in the league could have won those first 2 games with how great the field position the defense gave us was. This eagles game was still within reach even after the self inflicted wounds (marhsall filp , coples facemask, questionable time out management ,the punt return, fitz ints and missing Devon smith 3 times(not mention decker and ivory hurt)) but you also have account for the fact we were facing a struggling eagles off with a banged up defense . Against an elite team we would have been blown out. That being said I still say if we win then Fitz stays but to say that there is nothing left to see in geno and that's he's a bust is just spiteful. Genos midrange and deep passes will automatically force 1 or 2 players to stay back. His speed to take off to the edge or run it in on goal line makes the linebackers stay home a bit longer . It was known that he wasn't nfl ready when we drafted him yet people still judge him on his growing years with a crap team. I'm not saying pull fitz if we continue to win, but we are not done with geno by a long shot. If we were why wouldn't they just cut him ?
There's nobody better than Geno available on the open market at the moment. The Jets could try to talk Kyle Orton out of retirement but they'd run into similar problems to the ones Fitzpatrick is having at this point. Look at Kirk Cousins in Washington. That's he's actually playing for the Skins lets you know how bad the market for QB's is at the moment. Geno is our Kirk Cousins. If Fitzpatrick can't play Geno is going to have to and if he's still bad we're going to have a bad season. Just like Washington.
While I am not one of the Geno supporters at this time, I don't necessarily agree with some of the views that Geno is not and will not be NFL QB caliber period and should not be a starter. I also think IMO the CS sees it the same way, Geno deserves a real opportunity with this talented group to show us if he is or if he is not. His past performance is not enough to judge his future. Like it or not the facts are: 1- Had Geno not gotten punched he would have started for the Jets on game one 2- Based on everything we heard out of training camp he had improved tremendously and was beating Fitz for the starting job. 3- Based on how he finished last season and his training camp performance it is not a fore gone conclusion that we would not have had the same record or better with him at the helm. We will never know that of course. 4- If the team continues to win, or Fitz plays well enough to lead this team comfortably, with strong team chemistry even after a tough loss chances are they will not change QBs. 5- But, if the offense really sputters along, we have a bunch of 3 and out and we can not score enough to win on any given Sunday, then the CS will be looking for a spark to energize the team and Geno will be given the reigns. Far before we loose our chance to remain in the playoff hunt. 6- If and when that happens it will be a pivotal moment for him and the team. If he fails, his career with the Jets is over. If he succeeds the future is bright for the whole team.
LMAO... yeah.. right... The Jets asked Geno to come to their miraculous offense where you can score 35 PPG by throwing 3 yard hook routes to the elite WR corp of David Nelson and Greg Salas while getting little to no blocking... I have no fucking idea how Geno blew that. shame on the kid. You know what Tennessee did for Mariota? They took a handful of Mariota's favorite plays from Oregon and it's got him looking like a straight STUD right now.. You dont Draft a QB that doesn't fit your shit system and expect him to come in and make magic.. you draft a QB and build AROUND HIS STRENGTHS ... Everybody said "oh he can't play in a NFL system blah blah blah" so........ Tennessee said FUCK that system because we have a QB with the traits to be a a GOOD QB (and so does Geno)... so blame the Jets management for drafting Geno without a fuckin clue as to what they were doing and having no real game plan.. blame the Jets management for not giving him any help and having the nerves to have some damn expectations. I don't defend Geno's past actions with the IK situation .. He messed up his own shit with that one.. it's his fault he's not playing right now.. but to sit here and act like he's just the worst QB in NFL history (as most give a pass to Fitz for making the same shitty mistakes Geno made before) is just ignorant. You people act like young QB's can't progress over the years.. Alex Smith was a pure shit show as a #1 pick for a few years and what did the 9ers do? THey said fuck that system we were running trying to make Alex make all these plays with no players around him.. lets make this a ground and pound heavy play action type system to SUPPORT THEIR QB's STRENGTHS (or lack there of) and BAM... what do ya know.. whole new player that's a highly respected QB in the NFL. Why can't Geno progress? Despite allllll the reports of him showing improvement from last year to this.
see you guys are all over the ability or the promise of ability wow Geno he can throw the ball a mile but he can't play qb as well as Fitz . Geno does not inspire confidence or show leader ship. Never mind decision making skills needed for the position. The issue here is neither Geno or Fitz are long term answers and most people realize that. So you go with the guy that gives you the best chance to make the correct choices on the field and to give that chance to win. Neither Geno or Fitz have the ability to make things happen. That is what most people are saying. I agree the Jets need olinemen because they make everyone else look better. I thought this team was a 9 win team tops and I still think that. Besides that I can't understand why people who have watch Sanchez crap the bed, then Geno want to go back. It is time to cut bait Geno sucks we have seen this. Better receivers or Linemen won't make Geno make the correct read or choice when he is rushed.
I can see this but the issue here is Geno has had the chance to progress and has not he has regressed with his reads and on field play. People act like he was a first round pick and we need to play him. Guess what he wasn't and he does not. If there is any hope for Geno to amke it in the NFL he needs to sit and learn the game this yr. It is something he has nto had the chance to do and might be the best thing for him. Then he can try to win the job next yr. But for now keep him far away from the field
I don't see where he got the chance to progress.. All he got was Eric Decker added to his poorly ran offense.. and he made the most out of Eric Decker.. He didn't see much of a drop off from playing with Peyton stat wise besides TD's.. and he missed some games. Was still a very bad offense and the defense was even pretty bad in 2014 IMO.. THIS year is his chance to progress if you ask me.. got a offensive coordinator that knows how to move the damn ball up the field, and he runs a QB Friendly system, got Brandon Marshall and Decker as opposed to just Decker, and we got a deep threat now.. plus above average blocking for once..if Geno fucked that up.. then i'd agree he's an absolute lost cause. Still and all, these guys are just band-aids til Bryce is ready.
I understand your point but to me 30 games is more then enough to see if he has it on the field with decision making. he makes horrible reads. Part of blame surely falls on the previous administration of this team. I have said it before they should have gotten more help last yr and failed. Geno did f i up though when he provoked IK. He is just as much to blame as IK. the bottom line is another poor choice by Geno has hurt him on the field
bingo... if fitz doesn't whoop on Miami or shows more of that being over conservative shit... he's gotta get that clipboard man,
When the analysis is "so and so sucks" I guess that is the extent of the football knowledge. Fitz. is an average quarterback. He was that last season and will be that next season. Is that a surprise? The coaches know that and will go with him for awhile. The offense is geared to his strengths. But they know that he can only take them so far. This is an offensive league and defense can only slow teams down not stop them. Geno will get a shot soon. Actually, using Fitz. early lets some fans realize his limitations. Sometimes you get lucky and win a low scoring game but generally you have to score big to win most contests.
Jets are 2-1 with Fitzpatrick as the starting Qb. Suck on that, Smith Fan. You guys don't even know simple arithmetic.
Good review of the passing game and Fitz' performance from Jets Nation http://www.jetnation.com/2015/09/30/jets-passing-offense-film-review-week-3/ 2-1 record and in the hunt. I don't understand why some folks on this board want to throw in the towel on this season and put Smith in. Can anyone truly believe based on his performance that Smith would be a better option? Geno would have gotten the Jets to 3-0? Seriously? He's the next coming of Aaron Rodgers? What if the Jets did put him in and he throws a few of his specialty pick 6's? Put Fitz back in? If the Jets get Ivory and Decker back, and Fitz improves his play just a little bit, the Jets should beat the Fins and go 3-1 before the bye. Smith wont see the field then, unless Fitz gets injured.
