This is true, but 3 words for you......FIVE-guys-missed. The punt wasn't the problem.

There was soooooooo much wrong in that game. You never even get close to the OC. Any play works if you out-execute the team on the other side of the ball....any play. We did anything BUT that in that game......all day. That game was played like we didn't even WANT to win it.

The Jets are pretty darn lucky to land Chan Gailey and a veteran quarterback that knows his system. Pretty much a pre-packaged, plug and play offense.

Any other QB in there and it would be a "He's starting to get a handle on Gailey's system" type story every other week.

5 guys cant miss if the punt goes out of bounds. sproles gets paid to make people miss and has done it as well as anyone in football. the idea is not to force your special teams players, some of the lesser talented players on the roster to tackle one of the most elusive players in the league

to me, ST coach needs to be fired for something like that.

I'm kind of in the middle on Gailey's performance in the loss to Philly. one of hte things that keeps me there is I can't figure out what they were doing with Ivory. Here's the thing - if Chris had played and was healthy enough that he should have played, says here that would have made a big difference in the effectiveness of the running game. That's why it's tough to blame Gailey, since they must have been game planning with a significant hope that Ivory would play.

Dressing Ivory makes me think that the decision not to play him was game time after warm ups. That made it harder on the game plan. Powell obviously is not an Ivory clone, so having to start him and not use Powell as a change of pace hurt the game plan.

Having said that shouldn't they have been planning that Ivory might well not be playing? THe play calling did not look to me like that, meaning they did not seem to have a good alternative plan if Ivory did not play.

Easy to say this in hindsight. Maybe they thought Powell and Stac would do well enough agaisnt the Eagles' run D.

Add it up, and I am in the middle about Gailey against Philly. Neither good nor awful.

Was it Chan Gailey that told Marshall to hand the ball to the other team, a play that essentially made the difference in the game? They were missing 2 of their best players on offense, give the guy a break. We didn't establish any type of run until the 2nd half.

I'm impressed it took until week 3 for the OC to get called out. That's probably an OC record for TGG.

There was a Fire Bowles thread after Quarter 1 of Week 1 of preseason. That's gonna be tough to beat for the next HC.

IMO the Eagles were in a must win situation and I just don't see how this is on Fitz.
    1) Marshalls brain fart play
    2) Marshalls dropped pass
    3) Marshalls arm was held down in the end zone negating the TD
    4) No Decker
    5) No Owesu. Not sure on spelling
    6) Timing had to be off with Smith since he is a burner.
    7) Punt return for TD
    8) couldn't stop the run.

Just not seeing this all on Fitz and still just barely lost.

Yeah, because our QB should be expected to win games when the team is outplayed in every aspect of the game - out run, out blocked, out coached, on special teams, and add in boneheaded plays and clutch drops to the mix. Tell me again, why should we have won that game??

Where did I say they should have won the game? I was merely point out that this doesn't fall on Gailey. Regardless of those things you mentioned I don't have any confidence in either Fitz or Geno as neither have shown me they're good enough to win the Super Bowl or even make the playoffs.

Why don't you let the season play out a bit more...we are 2-1 after all - new coach/players/system etc...and a good chance at 3-1 at the bye. But you're right, if we have major injuries and the team doesn't perform around the QB, they will not make the playoffs.

I've been stating it for years--thee jets cannot ignore OL every year at the draft and expect to compete--Prime example is 2014 in the 3rd round when mauler OL Gabe Jackson was available and Rex reached for CB wonder Dexter McDip. The Raiders took Jackson with the very next pick and he has started since day 1.

    ^+1

Gabe Jackson was a starter down in Starkvegas from day one and who ended up 1st team All-SEC Conference.

McDoogie? Fractured his shoulder in the 3rd game (vs. UConn) and was mothballed for the remainder of his senior year after undergoing surgery.

    Good 'BPA' call there Izzy.

How about a 42 yard punt high for a fair catch?

this is spot on. to me, fitz is 25% to blame....

25% on quigley ST coach for punting to sproles(cost us 7)
25% on fitz (too many picks, missed too many throws)
25% on marshall (late drop that was tipped and intercepted was on him, dumb pitch for a turnover)
15% on offenisve line (couldnt open a hole, pocket was collapsing the entire second half on passes)
10% on defensive line (complete lack of pass pressure)

fitz is part of the blame, but he isnt all to blame. it was as big a team loss as you'll find

of course the punt was the problem. sproles has a 0.0% chance of scoring if the ball is punted out of bounds. i dont care if 11 guys missed tackles, that play is 100% on quigley/the coaches.

sproles making fullback looking white dudes with numbers in the mid 40's miss is not something unexpected
