Why does this organization put such little emphasis on field position: KR- Owusu is horrible, Bilal Powell is mediocre P- Quigley stinks, I watch college games with better punting, the kid punting for Temple was punting the ball 65 yards every kick PR- Kerley 5 yards and a cloud of dust *Walter Powell could have solved 2 of these problems, but for some reason was cut, somewhere even if its not Weatherford there is a better punter and don't quote Quigs stats because sometimes stats lie, he folds under pressure all the time, we haven't had a very good punter since Tom Tupa and very good KR since Chad Morton, field position is vital, especially when playing with subpar QBing and a solid defense
New Rules have ruined ST's. Might as well just start every new series on the 20 and eliminate KO's all together. PR's mostly are fair catches anyway (Jeremy Kerley=Dedric Ward).
"Owusu is horrible" is not a good sentence. Agreed on most everything else though, other than Walter Powell. He looked miserable the first two games and beat up on third/fourth stringers in the last two. I'm glad he's on our PS because I think he can be something for us down the road, but I can't get worked up over him not being on the active roster. Owusu will be just fine, and I wouldn't be shocked if Devin Smith eventually returns kicks.
After broken ribs Devin Smith won't be returning kicks this year, disagree with you about Owusu, and agree with Cman, take a knee in the end zone and get the ball on the 20...change the rule to the college rule touchback place the ball at the 25 yard line
To be fair, those guys haven't really had a chance to show us what they can do. Powell isn't the fastest guy on the planet but he can break tackles, he's got great cuts, he's very quick and has great field vision to spot holes that aren't there yet. I'd like to see him return kicks for a year, or at least half the season. Owusu is a walking concussion, he's built like a swimmer, he has no business returning kicks for his own sake. Stacy is way too slow, he looks clumsy out there. He's not going to get anything done as a return man. He reminds me of a slower version of LaMont Jordan without the hands. Quigley is hit and miss, hopefully he'll bounce back this year.
"Quigley is a miss" Fixed it for you...Walter Powell has the best returner upside, years ago we had the best KR in the league Bobby Humphrey, sometimes you have to use a roster spot for a returner, if he can make a difference...
He was hit in his first year, then miss. It's gotta be hit again this year and then we get rid of him to avoid another miss.
What I find frustrating about kick offs/punt returns, and it's not just a Jets thing, but seemingly every game I watch, half the time a penalty is called for either a block in the back or holding on the receiving team. But since I brought up the Jets......... I still have acid reflex from that abortion of a play they tried pulling last year with someone laying down in the end zone trying to hide. Good god how embarrassing........
Holy shit......... the pain. Really though, what kind of pop warner garbage is that? That Harvin running it out? Who was "hiding?"
Quigley is awful. Sign someone off a high school team to replace him or bring Ben Graham back. That is all.
I get your point but Justin Miller was a Pro Bowler, Leon was very good as was Brad Smith so this is not really true.
