I just got home from panic citi, and the feeling of impending doom was written all over people faces. What an embarrassing game/series. Terry is really pissing me off with his lineups. Stop being so overly concern with lefty-righty pitcher, and just put the best players in the lineup. Today will be blame Harvey day. Which the NY Giants, and Mets players not name Harvey should be thankful for. I’m not as angry about it as most because we knew this was going to happen. Not a surprise. Watched Terry post-game interview and he was talking about Harvey getting less than 5 innings in his next starts, that’s just going to enrage people. Trying to save Matt for the playoffs that isn’t yet guarantee just doesn’t sit well. Listening to Harvey interview was just silly. Acting like he has no control of the situation. I like him but he had me rolling my eyes so hard. I still wouldn’t want him traded. I don’t want a, don’t it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone, situation. The Harvey mess is doing a good job masking the problems with this team.
Or exacerbating them. Cause last night never happens if Harvey pitches a sixth inning. Then you have a 1-0 or 1-1 game going into the seventh with Terry using Reed/Clippard/Familia instead of having to use the garbage part of the pen to blow up in the sixth then waving the white flag after that.
One good thing was the Cespedes double which took him out of an 0 for 20 something slump and apparently was getting to the guy. He wasn't answering reporter's questions and if he wants to play in NY he's going to have to (in addition to not choking down the stretch). So if he can get back on track they have a good chance to clinch. We're playing the Braves and usually that's a tough series for the Mets but not year's Braves team. You know we're in trouble though if we lose to them. The Nats play the Orioles. Remember so far it's Wash who's fallen apart this season not the Mets. A short losing streak right now followed by a winning streak wouldn't be so terrible.
It's gut check time for these guys, I think these stupid innings limits are really fucking up the team. The playoffs are not guaranteed and you need to play like you only have one shot at winning the WS. Just ask Washington how shutting down their best player worked out for them a few years ago.
No excuses from here on out. Yeah it has not been pretty lately. And the teams shitty play against the better teams in the league has us all concerned. But screw that. 6 game lead with 13 to go. (Which is really a 3 game lead with 10 to go cause that last series of the year needs to not matter) And all 10 of those games against bad to horrible teams. Any Mets fan would've signed up for this type of lead this late in the year..so for that Im happy. But this team needs to snap out of this. And quick.
Of course us Mets fans are sweating bullets (due to our past history) and won't calm down until we officially clinch the division. But yesterday was a great day for Mets-Jets fans because on both fronts we kicked ass. The only thing that would have made it better was if the Orioles had beaten Wash and our magic no. went to 6. Yeah, we're greedy but we're cool!
Cespedes is a guy who's been with a lot of teams in a short career. If he doesn't hit he might not be a guy you mind getting rid of. He's making a case for the Wilpons not to pay him. And you know they don't want to.
Mets lack of offense again like last night putting them in a position to lose. If they have a big inning it could be a repeat.
We're also seeing the Mets like earlier in the season unable to put hits together and score runs. Even extra base hits. And again a solo HR.
For fuck sake. Hopefully the Nats lose again, but this seems like we are going to be limping into the playoffs. I am not worried, whatosever, we are just playing terrible right now.
