How long before Kelly goes back to college? If you're gonna strut around like you're smarter than everybody, you had better back it up as there's only ONE Rex Ryan in the league that can get away with all talk, all the time. Kelly's vaunted system had better start showing some results or the folks in Philly will light the pitchforks. Kelly's rope is far shorter than Andy Reid's...
My wife is from NE Philly and wants Reid back Why did he go? The owner should have paid the man unless there were bad memories of sons death in PA
Reid had worn out his welcome in Philly. At least according to my Iggle fan associates. Kelly came in as the next great Bill Walsh and was gonna revolutionize the Pro Game.
Murray is a stud at RB position. If you don't feed this man, you are wrong. By end of week 2 last season Murray had 25 more touches. Have to feed this horse. Someone else said it already in this thread. Chip is trying to run a Patriot style offense (spread offense) with speed (quick no huddle). Chip is trying to do this with a quarterback that has been out of the league for the better part of 3 seasons. Just run the damn ball, and not out of shotgun.
The real problem Chip Kelly has right now is that he hitched his wagon to Sam Bradford and DeMarco Murray. Bradford is like glass back there and Murray just took close to 400 carries last season. Acquiring them both in the same off-season to stabilize his offense was either a brilliant move that 90% of GM's wouldn't have touched with a 10 foot pole or it was the beginning of the end.
If you run out of shotgun and no one respects your pass attack, it's easy to bottle up the running back. Defenses do no fear Bradford and Murray is running out of shotgun with no lead blocking. If you think Murray is a bad football player, you don't know football. This should be an offense that runs from single back, I, split I; heavy counters, traps, pulling guards and a PA pass.
If you think you can just play under center and the RB's performance is going to just improve, you don't know football. He was playing with Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, and an elite offensive line. Defenses were forced to respect the pass and and outperform one of the best lines in football. I don't think Murray is a bad football player, but I do believe his performance was to be expected. You can run any running play but if the defense isn't forced back by the threat of a pass or have to contend with an above average line, Murray isn't going anywhere no matter the number of touches.
Too bad they couldn't get Mariota. That would've been the only way to save Chip's job. They were dumb to trade away one of the best deep threats in the game in DeSean, dumb to trade away Shady, let Maclin go. IN the process, they extended Riley Cooper who just sucks. Though I am GLAD they made that trade because Kiko is out of the division. That offensive line looks bad too - can't generate a running game, and Bradford isn't making any plays to the WRs to get those extra defenders out of the box. Chip is going right back to college in 1 or 2 seasons.
Murray would do fine in any offense committed to running the ball (not out of shotgun). If all your carries are out of shotgun you will fail as a running back unless you play with Rodgers, Luck, Rothlisberger, Romo or Brady....or a new age mobile quarterback that can read option Kaper, wilson I think Murray is the best running back in football. He has vision, speed and power. If he is on your team, and you are not feeding him; you are an idiot. Throw some more shotgun with Bradford though lol
Shady complained they ran too much out of the shotgun formation. The only way you can really have a good running game based out of the gun is if the QB is a threat to run as well, like Wilson. Bradford isn't selling any fakes, he can barely move back there. DeMarco is definitely not performing well, but I blame that on them running too much out of the gun. Vilma has an excellent point. You do as well in regards to the Dallas O-line. http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/...tter_under_center_lesean_mccoy_thinks_so.html I would take Murray in a NY Minute, he's a beast and would be excellent w/ the Jets o-line.
Trading Foles was a mistake too. Foles > Bradford. Bradford has a long way to go... his career is in serious jeopardy. Eagles don't have the pieces to run the offense Chip wants to run. Either feed this future Hall of Fame running back in your backfield or get ready for your new job, somewhere else. ....just want to add, well aware of the Oline in Dallas that Murray left behind, but I still see Murray as a top 3 running back in the NFL (with the Eagles) if Chip committed to Murray and the run.
Look Chip is getting grief over getting rid of a good O-lineman like Mathis. But it was a typical NFL franchise move cutting a player who is making too much money and who's production has gone down. As for McCoy I think in addition to salary he was a bit of a clubhouse lawyer and Chip didn't want his sometimes negative (to him) influence coming out of the locker room. And you saw the kinds of things he said after he was traded to Buff. What's his complaint anyways, he got the contract he wanted. And as for the Rbs, Murray and Matthews that Chip signed. Kind of hard to understand why he would sign both of these guys but neither of them is chopped liver. They should both over the course of the season be successful. Hopefully not this week though.
Rumor is Chip is going to tank after failing to secure Mariota in draft. He'll end up being Tennessees coach next year after Lurie fires him or either the Negadelphia faithful run him out of town
Murray was running behind a top 3 O line last year and this year he is running behind a line that was at the bottom of the league last year and in my opinion got worse over the off season. Sproles has had one nice run so far, besides that the run game has been nonexistent and I expect it to stay that way at least for one more week.
I'm losing ground the more I post on this so last one.... Still see a special player when I watch Murray. I think a team can build around his character and play/abilities in the running game. Chips spread/shotgun offense will never suit Murray's style though, without a feared arm behind center. The system is a bad system for #29. He is a horse that needs to be coming out of the gates with some lead blocking. Quick passes to the flat will never work when a quarterback can't make any throws over 15yds. Defenses don't respect any Eagle deep threat, so you have more defenders in the box, check flats and eating up all this short garbage. I expect we will create a bunch of takeaways on Sunday...probably Bradford finds the bench at some point. Our fans will get into these young qb's heads and our defense will feast...BIG hits coming Sunday. Wish I was going to be in attendance, think the crowd will be wild again. And with that said I feel bad for Murray, bc I think his ineptness will be more of a product of chip's system than of his own inabilities. Murray is a great player on a shit offense, and in a system designed for heavy pass; but without the ingredients for the aerial arsenal recipe.
Oh no doubt Murray is a great player in a bad situation, I am wondering though if it makes more sense to spread out the extra money a high priced RB makes through the O line. The Eagles could have had Mathis in between Peters and Kelce and an mid range FA at the RG, I know I said before Philly O line ranked at the bottom last year but I think a lot had to do with Kelce being injured and Herreman never came back all the way from his bicep tear. Mathis and mid range FA RG in there instead of Barbre and Gardner would make a big difference in my opinion. Then they plug someone like CJ Spiller back there, who didn't command near as much, and they are looking much better in the run game. Of course Spiller is an iffy proposition coming off the knee surgery.
The odds of Kelly Phailing in Philly are certainlyh higher than when the season began. Even then you had to wonder if Bradford was the right fit for them, if you assume Foles clearly was not ( I question both). But I would not assume he's done quite yet. Of course the Jets could have hand in that, since I am sure no one in Philly expected an 0-3 start. But it's early, and i think Bradford is going to get better.
