most jets fans love Snacks and understand his importance to this team, but to other NFL fans i'm sure they have no clue who he is. truth be told, Harrison is maybe the best player at his position and is an elite player. i understand most of our attention goes to richardson and wilkerson in terms of who we should pay and how much, but snacks will depend a huge contract. he is essential to our run defense as he was ranked the best run defender in the NFL last year by PFF Pro Football Focus @PFF Sep 2 Top 5 Interior Defenders by PFF Run Defense Rating: 1. Richardson 90 he's only 26 years old and seems to only get better with each passing year. this past week he was in the backfield almost every play going against the best center in the NFL in Mack. i've been more than impressed by him week in and week out, he's one of our most consist players i'm just curious about what's going to happen when he becomes a free agent. everyone is worrying about wilkerson, and understandably so, but i honestly believe harrison is in for a hefty pay raise
How very jets like to take DLmen in the first round nearly every single year for a decade and yet there's a legitimate argument that your best DLmen is a guy you signed off the scrap heap. I like Harrison but this is likely his last year here. Damn good player though
They're going to re-sign Snacks. He's going to be expensive but nowhere near as expensive as Mo and it's going to come down to dollars and sense. If you want to have a franchise CB something has to give on that side of the ball and the Jets will probably let that something be Mo. Next year the Jets 3-4 will have Richardson - Snacks - Williams up front. The three of them will cost less against the cap for the year than Mo would by himself.
We gunna sign ANY of our vaunted DL? It seems like all of them are considering big pay days. I don't see how we lose Snacks though. He'd indespensible.
Mo is just timing. If he'd had a great year last year he'd have forced the Jets hand and Richardson (in a trade) or Snacks would be on the way out next season. We probably wouldn't have signed Cro in that situation either. Instead he got banged up and had an off-year for him and now the prospect of paying him $13-14M a year just isn't very appetizing for a team that has Richardson under contract until 2018 and Williams until 2020. He's going to have to have a great year this year to get a top of the market deal and by great I mean 14+ sacks and an All-Pro nod. He's going to have to put himself in the conversation with J.J. Watt as the NFL's best 3-4 end and right now that's not a real conversation.
Do you think they'll franchise him if he has an ok but not great year? That's a really hefty price tag and the Jets cap for next year is already kind of full. If he has a great year then they'll work out a deal with him, but not if it's the kind of quiet great year that he had in 2013. He really needs to put some numbers on the board and have people talking about him being the linchpin in that front 7 before the Jets are going to commit a huge amount of money to him. They have some excellent talent on that defensive line and that would be true even if they didn't have him.
The franchise is hefty but it isn't as hefty as a longterm deal, given the lack of guaranteed money down the line. I think there is a chance that they franchise Wilk as they continue to negotiate. If the two parties negotiate successfully, they will restructure that contract until a long-term deal. If not, they will either trade him (and his franchise salary, which is hefty but not untenable in terms of disrupting a potential trade) or let him play out the contract. That being said, you may very well be right. If Wilk doesn't show improved play, he may very well be a free agent. I'm just worried about having Sheldon Richardson be our team's best player. Despite his 4-game suspension and perhaps an even worse one, Sheldon has always been one to publicly espouse his views, including his desire for a large contract. Mo Wilk just seems more sustainable than Sheldon, IMO.
Someone is getting traded for some very valuable picks this off-season unless guys sign below market value. Mo could fetch you a 1st and 3rd Rounder, Sheldon a 1st and a conditional pick as well. You have to consider that considering the depth of Williams, Douzable, Harrison, Barnes and Simon. We could also move on from Coples and get some versatility in our LB corps to be a more complete defense and fit what Bowles wants his LBs to do.
thats a nice 3 man front. Its a good fit. I wouldn't be against that plan at all. in fact in the past I'd been a supporter of trading Wilkerson. Problem is that Richardson's troubles kinda changed me a little. Idk if we can trust the guy as a long term player here because he's so full of shit. Maybe you let Harrison walk, find a way to sign Wilkerson, or franchise him for a year then sign him. bring in a big body on the cheap to play the nose and see how 2016 shakes out. Maybe we know more then about Richardson's discipline, Wilkerson's value, and Williams' abilities by then. Wilkerson is a unique kind of player. He doesn't have the motor or the explosiveness of Richardson (and possibly Williams).. but his length and strength in those arms is special. Even if he's being blocked he makes a difference in the run game because he can reach over and grab a RB
Kenrick Ellis was just as good, albeit injury prone. We can bring him back on a veteran minimum deal and he'll be a capable replacement in the middle on 1st downs. Barnes is coming along, he can take over next year. Deon Simon was drafted to potentially take over. We're just fine without Snacks. He's an awesome run stuffer but you don't pay those guys 6-7-8 mil. per year. Not in this defense. I rather move on from Snacks and make sure I get Mo re-signed and bring in a LB who can go after the QB. Snacks is no Dareus or Kyle Williams. He's a one dimensional run stuffer in a league that is all about stopping the pass.
Sheldon is a big off-season concern. He is kind of volatile. So many things to think about. I guess it will not happen but Sheldon could conceivably wind up in jail. Then the Jets would be sitting on a hot rock.
What's good with that pass rush productivity though? I wouldn't be shocked to see him close to last. He's no Kris Jenkins and he better not get paid like one.
I bought Madden 16 and was shocked that Harrison was a 93 or whatever...something we Jets fans know is accurate, but I didn't think anyone else knew who he was. I'm guessing we'll re-sign him, and people need to realize that most of the contracts we dished out this past off season can be terminated after this year with very little dead money compared to the average contract. We'll have money to re-sign our own.
