duke is on a major roll these last few years w/ the class last year, Parker 2 years ago, this years class and now Tatum and others. that USA coach thing has really helped. it's funny, K was considered done at this point in 2009, Carolina owned the Country, the ACC and the area and now the roles have reversed again. Hopefully the Heels can respond the way duke did w/ an upperclassmen led team that following season and start to turn the tide back to the Heels. Once the nonsense is over with by the spring the Heels can get back to normal w/ recruits.

More violations uncovered that may help UNC basketball escape punishment until after the season. How convenient. UNC and the NCAA are going to do everything they can to sweep this under the rug until after the season.

But eventually, the cheaters will come home to roost.

    http://bustingbrackets.com/2015/08/...-delay-ncaa-sanctions-on-north-carolina-hoop/

There was always a good possibility that the NCAA was not going to hit North Carolina Basketball with any sanctions that would be imposed before the Tar Heels took the court for the 2015-16 season that would hinder their National Championship aspirations.

However, the latest occurrence involving North Carolina’s athletic program makes it a lock that sanctions will not be imposed by the NCAA until well after the college hoop season is over.

According to cbssports.com’s Gary Parrish, the University of North Carolina has uncovered more infractions involving their women’s basketball team and their men’s soccer team.

UNC was already caught up in scandal with the NCAA because of the allegations of academic fraud and lack of institutional control that came out previously.

The latest discovery of infractions by UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham means that the UNC will have to go through an additional NCAA review to determine if the new allegations call for amending the previous notice of allegations.

This additional review could take up to 60 days to complete to determine if the notice needs to be amended and resubmitted.

After that, North Carolina will have 90 days from the day of submission to respond to the allegations.

The process will basically guarantee that nothing will happen to the North Carolina Athletic Program until well after the basketball season is complete.

Why is this important for Roy Williams and his squad?

Because the Tar Heels have a really good chance at chasing the National Championship this season and could possibly be ranked No. 1 going into the 2015-16 season.

UNC is going to have an experienced squad coming to the floor led by point guard Marcus Paige who could be a National Player of the Year candidate this year.

Also, the Tar Heels’ frontcourt is going to be one of the best in the nation with Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks, who are both probable first round draft picks for the 2016 NBA Draft.

In the end, with the upcoming review of the new allegations coming up, there should not be any actions taken against the North Carolina program until April or May.

This means that the football team should not have any issues when it comes to National Signing Day and that Roy Williams and his kids should be able to make their run at the Final Four.

After the hammer comes down on these issues, things will be a little different at Chapel Hill. So 2015-16 is the time for North Carolina athletics to make the most of their seasons.

stall tactic. they are doing everything to try and delay it until after this season, including throwing the women's team and the soccer team under the bus, apparently. just a JOKE

My guess is that they will try to pull a shady move like Syracuse if they have a disappointing season this winter they'll announce self-imposed sanctions for that season, Roy Williams will announce he's retiring "in a couple years" and they will try to survive it that way like Syracuse. It won't work because what they did is worse than what Syracuse did but it will be a valiant effort.

if they do have a good season they will continue to delay as much as possible. after the season they'll get about half of what they deserve from the NCAA but it will still be substantial and Roy Williams will announce he's retiring for "health reasons" or something stupid.

Either way its all about this year for them. Which is pretty pathetic considered these are egregious violations and stretch far beyond many I've seen. I know quite a few alums who are just embarrassed and pissed off, so at least there is hope the delusion ends at the administration & some super "fans"

10X as bad as what we did.

But to be fair, we had been under a cloud for so long, it was Syracuse's take on "shit or get off the pot" to the NCAA so we picked the right year to do it.

Oh and the constant whining--"did you see those calls the refs missed on Duke and all the bogus calls on UNC?!?".

I have never heard a bigger whiny pussy than that guy after a game.

    North Carolina: Duke Blue Devils

Outlook: The battle in North Carolina is going to get interesting once Mike Krzyzewski decides to retire -- whenever that is. We don't think it happens by 2020, but it will almost certainly happen within the five years after that. Alas, we're on a five-year window here, and Duke has to be the pick. UNC could be pummeled with NCAA sanctions. NC State is not on Duke's level, and neither is Wake, though expect Wake Forest to make big strides in the next three seasons under Danny Manning. By the way, Davidson is also well-positioned to remain very good. This is such a strong state for hoops.

    Yet UNC did nothing?

    http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...on-suspends-larry-brown-10-percent-team-games

The NCAA has banned SMU from 2016 postseason play and has suspended Larry Brown for 30 percent of the team's games this season because of a lack of head coach control, a source close to the situation said.

The 30 percent ban for Brown means he will miss nine games total. The school also will be hit with nine scholarship losses over the next three years, a source said, although it was two below the limit this past season. SMU also will be placed on three years' probation.

The school can appeal the findings.

Yup--Roy knew everything his players were doing--academic fraud on a massive scale--and he gets away with it claiming ignorance. Even though his guys were the ones perpetrating it.

Larry Brown, 3rd time's a charm. What did SMU think they were getting? A 75 year old who was turning over a new leaf?

"The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they're going to give Cleveland State another year of probation."

    -Jerry Tarkanian

    On another note.....

It's been fun to watch Oregon build it's team back from absolute disaster. A team that five years ago didn't have enough players to form a practice squad now has been to the Big Dance three straight times. Dana Altman is one of the best coaches in the country. (He just has to be careful with who he recruits....)
