Not if Richardson doesn't get his act together.

I think Wilkerson still needs to get adjusted to this defense, it's not the same defense as w/ Rex. This scheme, Bowles wants his players to be aggressive and make plays. W/ Rex, it was more read and react. Jets might not need a bunch of expensive players on that line. Who knows. We shall see as the season progresses.

I still think Mo will have a big season and in limited snaps was very effective.

If you put a gun to my head and said will Richardson basically get thrown out the NFL due to him repeatedly screwing up, I would say no. I just don't see him losing control of himself.

It's the Jets. We should all be used to this by now.

Jets have depth there as well.

Let him walk. The Raiders will take him. He doesn't come within 10 spots of Watt.

There are a lot of reasons that contract talks are going slowly with Mo. He is under contract this year, with the option to use the franchise tag next year, and the franchise tag is a reasonable value for him so it's an easy choice should a contract not be reached. The organization also really wants to see what a season with Todd Bowls looks like for Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams. We have 2 years of Mo, Sheldon, and Leo without having to sign any contracts, so there's just no rush for the front office to give in. Also, I know many of you don't want to think this way, but what if Leo and Sheldon, both outplay Mo this year, so much so that by the end of the season he isn't a starter anymore? It's possible, it really is, and then what? We're paying $13+ million to a player who isn't even starting? If there comes a time when Mo is more valuable as a trade piece than a member of the roster, he's a lot easier to trade without a massive contract, plus we won't be sitting there with his prorated money on our cap. It's great when you can afford to have 3 big time defensive linemen, but there is a very real chance that Mo could become the odd man out. Circumstances can always change, but the way I see it right now the only way Mo gets that extension for the foreseeable future is if he agrees to a deal that the Jets consider very team friendly, thus allowing them to retain him as a player at a value below what the market dictates.

I would love for Mo to sign a very team friendly deal, and be around for years but I just don't know that he will. But I'd be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts if he does ink a deal soon it will be looked upon as team friendly by outsiders. The Jets just have too much leverage for that not to be the case.

At this point, Mo knows he's basically betting on himself not getting injured every time he wakes up on Sunday morning. That's the one thing that could push him into signing, at least that I can see from where I'm sitting.

Macc has to be a little pissed at the guy who forgot to tell him about Marcus Williams before he shipped his last $8M over to the Cromartie camp. Life could have been so much better.

Perhaps, but remember that Cleveland's WR situation is as bad as the Jets the past few years. Williams wasn't shutting down anyone who would manage anything over a 500 yard season at best anyway.

You might be right, Marcus may not be that good.

BUT he looked good last year (remember all the "Marcus who!!!!" shit) and he looked REAL good in camp plus coming in off the bench last week to shut down Cro's guy and get our only INT of the game. I honestly think if Macc knew what he had in Marcus he NEVER would have handed Cro his last $8M. Macc would have gone with Marcus and signed Wilkerson by now. The $8M he gave Cro could have meant the difference between signing Mo for $13M/yr now or NOT signing Mo for $11M/yr that Macc can afford (post Cro contract).

Cro will be gone next season and we will have some more money to work with for the Mo negotiations.

    All good.

Regardless of whether he had more confidence in M. Williams, and never signed Cro (A move I'm betting we're all glad happened by the end of the year) I don't think that would have made any difference in whether we signed Mo yet. We have the ability to get Mo signed now, contracts can be molded in all sorts of different ways. If you believe Mo is not signed because we can't afford him, you're incorrect.

So $8M cold cash means nothing in this age of salary cap? You're better than this.

Of course it doesn't mean nothing, it means a lot, and I certainly didn't say that. All I'm saying is having that $8 mil, or probably only a chunk of it because we still would have signed a lower end CB for depth, would not have led to a Wilkerson contract up to this point or in the near future. I would never say it means nothing.

I don't really know why anyone is shocked that our young players in the secondary are improving, they have Cro and Revis to learn from.

Good point. We have Revis to show our young guys how to cover, and Cro to show them how not to cover ;)

Wilkerson keeps playing like this and they'll get a deal done or a high DP for him in a sign and trade. Mac isn't Idzik or Tanny.

I think they'd rather trade Sheldon after the season and then lock up Mo. He might actually net us even more in a trade, plus he'd cost us more to re-sign as well.
