I have 2 native friends, and 1 isn't offended in the least, and the other is so not offended that the Skins are his favorite team.
Round up, like reservation? You racist. Kidding aside, it matters not to me. But I don't like the notion that society has to change every time some group is offended by one thing or another. If 100% of NA can't be offended by it, than I'm not.
Mariota is having a good start to his NFL career Winston not so much, maybe we should trade for him instead
Whom ever he would have been replacing, I'm sure he would have been excited to get off of that dumpster fire of a team.
I've met Native Americans that had a problem with the term but learned to accept it because they felt nobody else really gave a damn.
It is racist. I majored in American Indian Studies in college and without a doubt among educated American Indians the term is derogatory and very racist. Now, you can visit an Indian reservation and see Indians wearing Redskins jackets and gear. But those Indians are generally thugs or young kids who don't know any better. They have appropriated the term for their own purposes and it means something different to them. Think about how the "N" word can be used differently in African American communities. Bottom line, Redskins is racist and the name hasn't changed because the super minority of American Indians is so small and has much less power.
Redskin minority thinks it's racist?? Let me know when you get majority. I also don't like you dismissing opinion of underpowered Indians. I bet you also dismiss what underpowered African Americans -- poorly educated living in inner cities -- think. You're an institutionalized racist, you should be ashamed of yourself!
This is probably for another thread but lets be straight here... Redskins is a derogatory term...The NFL business is a juggernaught, alot of other teams with Native American team names have changed their names. The NFL team and Snyder are just stubborn and will eventually cave if all trademark is lost on the Redskin brand. No reason to have it anymore if you dont own it. For example, my Johnnies dropped "Redmen" and are now "Redstorm". And a ton of teams changed their names Its always been derogatory, but now its at the forefront, pretty late in the game you would think but honestly it never is late. No one wants a team to be called the N word, or hispanics called as "the Brooklyn spics". It is long overdue that name is removed from the NFL.
I would rename Redskins, would call it "Political Correctness". "It's Sunday night football on NBC and the Dallas Cowboys will battle Washington Political Correctness" There is something to this
