Yeah, looks like a new day in Jet Nation from what I saw today. I saw a team unprepared to face their opponent in the first half only to dominate the 2nd half. Adjustments have been something prior regimes have been weak at doing effectively. This new CS seems to know what to do and when to do it. The gameplan on offense didn't take into account the Browns stacking the box. That was huge in the first half but near the end, Gailey started to air it out and that opened up the running game. Kudos. Mr. Gailey for your adjustment. On defense, early on we had no answer for McCown until that idiot decided he was Superman and tried to sky into the endzone. All that got him was a concussion. Manziel learned the hard lesson after several successful scrambles that in the NFL, your ass will get hit even if you are a QB. His turnovers after scrambles should be a lesson to the young Qb that sometimes. you can get away with what worked in college and sometimes, it will lose a game for you. Our CS, bless their collective hearts, made EFFECTIVE ADJUSTMENTS AT THE HALF. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was really impressed with the changes they made and the results produced from them. This team will be a factor IF they continue to be flexible in their in game planning. Congrats Coach Bowles on your first Jets Win. Hopefully, the first of many....
Gailey is a great OC. Dunno why he gets overlooked for coordinators Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
I will chalk up the bad first half to a new coach and probably some 1st game nervousness. We did take out their starting QB and Manziel was just comical out there. That said good win, and we have a great opportunity to prove ourselves in what is gonna be a pissed off Colts team at home.
If only we could face Johnny Manziel every single week. Hopefully we can repeat next week what Rex did to the Colts this week..sucks every team in the AFC East won this week but I'm excited for this season 9-7 and dare I say 10-6 isn't out of reach.
McCown did us a favor today, he thought he was Walter Peyton and got himself concussed. Manziel made a few plays here and there before reverting to his usual garbage self. The coaching staff made adjustments, we ran the ball well and Fitz looked solid. The defense forced turnovers which is a great thing. These next 3 games will be a test.
My biggest plus for the day was the ability to create turnovers, something we haven't done the entire time Rex was here. Fitz did not impress but wasn't terrible, but if Geno had the exact same game - many on this board would use it as evidence how bad he sucks 179 yards and an INT and the lost shotgun snap.
Bigger tests are yet to come. We won't always have the luxury to not be ready in the first half. Better scouting will produce better gameplans. I think this CS is flexible enough to be able to adjust on the fly.
That's my point. I don't think it was, but if it were Geno -- 90% of this board would be killing him. Some are trying to give Fitz a whole lot of credit for this game, when he basically really didn;t do much of anything outside of the first TD pass and a good 2 minute drill before half.
Yes I could see all that. It comes from over 40 years of following this team. Particularly over the last several years when we stubbornly: 1. Always put the D on the field first. 2. Not making effective adjustments on either side of the ball 3. Not having playmakers that provide options in planning. This is not Rex's New York Jets anymore as far as the mental aspect of the game. This team stayed poised and classy. It could have run up the score but chose the more polished route and simply closed the game out. No shit talking, no excessive chest pounding. No dumbassed penalties. I could go on but I think you probably know where that leads...
I'd like to see quicker adjustments. We could be out of the game by half time against better opponents. A good win considering all the new components in place. The first quarter was brutal for our defense. Hope that's the last we see of that.
Is there any way of preventing Geno from putting on a helmet this season, like maybe there is a time distortion equipment we could buy?
I'm thinking with the Cro injury, the gameplanning on D doesn't involve too many 3 man rushes.. My main concern is Revis. His island suddenly has become coveted real estate. More like the Marriot Revis than Revis Island.
Let's be fair. When Geno plays well, everyone gives him credit. This was Fitz first game for us, if he continues to screw up and lose games, we will dog his ass too. It's all about winning, Fitz won or didn't loose the game. If Geno won games, I wouldn't care if he turned the ball over 3 times a game... well I would care, but I wouldn't bitch about it as much.
