Seems like yesterday, I remember it vividly,,,tomorrow I will take time to reflect and think of the people that were lost and their families ! Never Forget ,,,,,be safe all and hug a loved one tonight and tell them that you love them !
God what a beautiful day that started out to be and it all went to shit in the blink of an eye. Geez, I still remember when we evacuated our building after we watched the first tower fall. Worst elevator ride I ever took. _
I remember after hearing the second plane hit, sitting at my desk, I wondered if anybody was going to get any work done that day. Then I heard this admin who was very religious, went to church all the time, she was down the hall, and she yelled: "We've got to kill all those fucking arabs!" And I said to myself, no, nobody's going to get any work done today.
Wife flew out of Newark that morning on business ,,,I was working in midtown,,,,,,,,,left work as soon as the second plane hit,,,,,,,even though the GW signs said Bridge closed me and 2 or 3 other cars drove over,,,,,once on the other side of the Bridge men in fatigues with rifles in hand let no one go into NYC and diverted traffic into fort lee,,,I got home in record time that day and picked up kids at day care,,,,,thankfully my wife got to her destination okay and stayed there for days,,,,,,,that day started off beautiful,,,,,,,,,,,beyond sad,,,no words !
I was on my way to my new job. First day and I got stuck in traffic on I670 Columbus OH. Listening to CNN on the radio and heard the breaking news. Got to work late, which is a terrible way to start a new job, and saw the second plane had hit. I had family still working the IRT #1 local (motorman and conductor) so I tried to call to get their status. All phone lines into NYC were jammed. What I didn't know at the time was that Verizon had a huge Node in the basement of one of the downed bldgs and it was crushed and buried. Took them quite some time to reroute all calls thru another site so I had no way of verifying if any of my relatives were involved, injured, anything at all.. For the first time in years, I cried...
Hearing stories like that makes you realize the severity of the event more. My prayers go out to the that lost their lives and their loved ones.
High school Junior year... Sitting in Math class someone came by our classroom and told our teacher to turn on the television, something important. We watched the 2nd plane hit live and then in my next class we watched the first building fall. I didn't think it was real. "Did the tower just fall down?" A year and a half later I was on a bus to Parris Island
My office was at 101 Park Ave-it's a building sitting at and angle facing down town--the only building between us and the Twin Towers was the Empire State Building. Our completely unobstructed view faced straight downtown --and we literally watched the entire event play out on big screen TVs, except they weren't TVs, they were floor to ceiling windows. We were on pretty much the top floor and the first plane literally flew over our building but no one noticed until someone saw the explosion. No one thought it was an attack, we were just stunned and curious as to how something like that could happen. Until the second plane hit and it was obvious and I had friends and family calling saying there were a dozen planes in the air heading all over the country (obviously wrong, but the panic it caused was intense). We sat there glued to the windows until the first tower fell and I remember my boss incredulously asking "what just happened? What just happened?!?" and I said--"the tower fell, Bob, it fell". They immediately evacuated our building because of the fear of other planes, the reports of the attack on the Pentagon and other planes possibly in the air and I remember a sense of intense fear as we too the elevator 48 floors to the lobby--the worst elevator ride I'd ever taken. We all tried to get out of the city but by then all transport to NJ was shut down so--like idiots--we walked downtown to a friends apartment (the wife was NOT happy) --the streets were completely clear of car traffic--the only vehicles were soot and dust covered EMT vehicles speeding uptown past us. But the streets were filled with people milling around and I remember hearing fighter planes above which only scared the shit out of us more. We ended up getting a ride home from my friends boss who brought his car into the city that day--but the GWB didn't open up till pretty late and we didn't get home till about 9:30. The thing that always stuck with me is why I walked downtown towards the Towers. It's weird, but I felt drawn there. I never got close enough that I was ever in any real danger, but there was just something going on that I had to get as close as possible. _
Did this really happen? And is your friend still married to this bitch? Didn't she realize what just happened that day?
MY wife was not happy. On the intermittent cell phone--felt like I was at Gillette Stadium--she screamed "what are you doing--get away from there!!" _
I was in middle school right on 25th street, right next to the NY Life building...Hearing the news in our cafeteria and then seeing all the corporate people in suits and business outfits run down park avenue is a memory I will never forget. I remember how sunny that day was, it really was a nice morning before it was all ruined by a bunch of demons. RIP to all those we lost on 9/11 and those that died upon the after affects of that brutal event.
I was late for math class. Some of the teachers ran into the class to tell what happened. Dont remember if we had lunch but there were a ton of rumors going around about the whole US being attacked, people crying, etc. Every student went into the auditorium as I waited all day for my mom to pick me up (who ironically worked in my school >_<). After we left the streets were EMPTY and in the background all you see is a giant black cloud. Going home around 4pm I turn on the tv to watch cartoons but there wasnt any signal. The only channel that worked was CBS 2! Throughout that afternoon you can see and smell the smoke coming from the WTC throughout brooklyn.
