the pats radio broadcast is set on a locked frequency, having the steelers booth to bench suddenly getting it means someone was trying to alter it. Are you going to tell me that just at game time the Nfl was trying this on purpose right into the second quarter. more hubris from pats fans

The Patriot Way is alive and well. It is nothing but systemic cheating that is designed to gain every possible edge over your opponent. Hire a guy to find ways to exploit the rules and find weaknesses in security. Film the sidelines. Deflate the balls. Steal play sheets. Fuck with radio signals. Maintain plausible deniability or just plain lie when caught. Make the NFL, which operates largely on an honor code and doesn't want to spend anything on enforcement or security, come after you. Eventually, the league will get tired of chasing their tails, and you can do whatever you want.

Or the NFL released a statement saying, "nothing here", but continue to have no credibility.

They're right.....but the only team 'around the league' that does it is the Patriots.

NFL says power issues and bad weather are to blame. I think everything in Goodells watch is an utter failure. He needs to go, he's too compromised as a puppet to one man

This story has too many different reasons and conflicting stories

Steelers, Patriots experience headset issues in opener

Belichick: We also had headset issues

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin wasn't thrilled with his team's play in Thursday's loss to the Steelers, and he wasn't happy about headset communication problems at Gillette Stadium.

"We were listening to the Patriots' radio broadcast for the majority of the first half on our headset," Tomlin said, pointing out that radio problems are "always the case" in Foxborough.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick essentially agreed with Tomlin.

"We had a lot of problems," Belichick said. "We had to switch microphones a couple times. Our communication system was not very good."

Belichick said it was a problem all night and the officials told him they were on the verge of shutting the communication system down.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, meanwhile, didn't think the problems filtered down to him much.

"There were a few plays that didn't come in, but that happens. That's nothing new. I didn't think there were too many issues tonight with communication between (offensive coordinator) Todd (Haley) and myself," Roethlisberger said.

Tomlin, who was clearly upset about the issue, said it was the league's responsibility to handle the problem. At one point he shut down any more questions on the topic.

"We let the league officials on site handle it, is what we did," Tomlin said.

After the game, NFL spokesman Michael Signora issued a statement on the behalf of the league, saying the equipment malfunction wasn't an issue for long in Thursday night's game.

"In the first quarter of tonight's game, the Pittsburgh coaches experienced interference in their headsets caused by a stadium power infrastructure issue, which was exacerbated by the inclement weather," Signora said. "The coaches' communications equipment, including the headsets, is provided by the NFL for both clubs use on game day. Once the power issue was addressed, the equipment functioned properly with no additional issues."

I want to give all the mods here credit for being fair with the tgg rules. I personally wouldn't take it. All these obvious trolls would be banned if I were a mod.

On television I thought I heard Collinsworth say that the Steelers coaches had interference first, and they then shut down the Patriots headsets so it was a fairer advantage.

Watching Tomlin's reaction is very telling. He is livid. The NFL is a big fraternity with very proud (often arrogant) tradition, so it is very much a faux pas to call any one coach or organization in public. Take Mangini as an example, he wanted to stop the filming, but regretted that it became such a public ordeal. He doesn't want to be the whistleblower and nobody does, but what Tomlin said tonight was very telling. He divulged much more than he or any other coach normally would. Hopefully everyone is just fed up.

Yep, but of course Bill is going to cover up and say he had problems too. They know what they are doing. If that was the case why wouldn't we have heard any complaints from the Patriots initially. This whole thing is truly unbelievable.

It was nice of Collinsworth and Michaels to suggest that the Patriots cheated on the goal line causing a false start on Pittsburgh.

"The Steelers were upset about what they believe was an illegal play by the Patriots when tackles Kelvin Beachum and Alejandro Villanueva were each penalized for a false start at the New England 1, forcing them to settle for a field goal when it was 21-11. The Steelers claimed the Patriots shifted during Ben Roethlisberger’s snap count, something guard Ramon Foster said the Patriots do legally all the time. “I was arguing (to the officials) they shifted in the middle of the cadence,” Roethlisberger said. “I thought there were rules against that.”"

The guy that maintains the headsets for Foxborough is known as "The Jammer" amongst Patriot staff, apparently because of his affinity for breakfast preserves.
