Apple unveils iPhone 6 & iPhone 6S

Worth the upgrade from 5S to 6S or wait...

 

I will get iPhone 6. Cheaper than 6S and still almost similar except the camera. I don't care about touchy feely feature.

 

They also have this upgrade plan where you pay a monthly fee - base is $33 a month for 24 months and after 12 months of payments you can roll over into a new phone (trade in old) and start a new two year pay plan and repeat every year...

 

Isn't this just a giant money grab? You end up paying double the price rather than just dropping the $250-$300 and buying the phone outright.

 

the phone is what $700 lol? But yes usually buying a phone outright is cheaper.

 

So what I understand is that after a year of payments for $396, then you can exchange the phone in for a new model and start the payment plan again...

Another 12 months and $425 later (assuming monthly price increase), you can repeat the cycle with the newest model.

I guess the determination of an analysis to do the plan vs buyout is the price of selling the phone with fees etc and comparing the two to see what's cheaper per year.

So in my example you spend $821 over two years for 2 models. If you buy each year then sell when next model comes out, net price after selling fees has to be less than $410 bucks per year...So buy new phone for $700 and have to sell that model for $450 assuming 10% eBay fees gives you $410 ish.

Is that selling situation possible?

 

Well I guess in my particular case I do not need the newest phone model as soon as it comes out so it doesn't make sense to me to be paying a monthly fee that amounts to double the price just to have the availability of a new phone in a year.

Also, the iPhone 6 plus is $299 at Bestbuy with a new service plan. I personally rather spend the $300 once than pay $800+ over two years to upgrade every 12 months, that's just me though.

I don't think phones offer much resale value unless they're sold within 6 months of the release. New phones come out too frequently to be worth anything.

 

as far as I see it, IF you just do light browsing on the internet on the go, text and make phone calls DONT spend $700 on a cot damn phone! That's just my opinion..

I need to upgrade but this almost 3 yr old LG optimus F3 has gotten me by and it was only $110 new. Dropped it 1,000x and the screen doesnt have a crack. After rooting it the phone became faster (sadly no ROMs were made for it).

Most importantly I can change the battery and I literally get 3 days on 1 charge with brightness @ 100.

 

Wow, Finally caught up to the galaxy 5 specs...kinda..

 

This is the way I've started to look at phones as I've gotten out of my teenage years and such. All phones upgrade to the same brand new software. The only thing that changes is silly things that don't end up being important like a panoramic camera or some sort of quick touch feature.

I plan on holding out as long as possible on a phone while mine is still kicking. The only thing that sucks is the way the battery life decreases drastically.

Anyone know of any affordable sites or ways to get new batteries? I know Amazon has a ton of knockoffs but I want my original battery. Let me know as I'd love to upgrade it without getting ripped off.
