You would think the Mets would have learned from the shit show that became the Nationals with Strasburg; you are never guaranteed another shot other than the present. If he gets hurt it's unfortunate but at least you can say he got hurt while you were trying to win the World Series.
Ok It's Official... Terry Collins should be committed to an insane asylum. This man should really reconsider this decision: BTW, this is about Homer Niese.. This may be why Collins has so much trouble making the post season. He might as well have said he'll put Parnell in the game in the ninth in a tie game with a man on third and nobody out. WTF is it gonna take to get thru Collins thick skull that Niese just doesn't have it anymore?? Collins needs to be drug tested.
If Sandy and Boras/Harvey reached a compromise it probably means that even Scott understands that the bad PR Matt would get if he doesn't pitch in the post-season is worse than taking a chance to be re-injured and hurt his value on the open market. But you have to wonder why the Mets didn't do a better job cutting his innings earlier in the season. Maybe their plan was to shut him down in Sept. thinking they wouldn't make the playoffs.
I don't understand why it's an innings limit in the first place. It should be a pitches limit. I saw a stat on Twitter where Harvey is about 800 pitches less than what Chris carpenter or wainwright (can't remember what cards pitcher it was) the year following their surgery.
Exactly. Innings are so arbitrary. An inning could be over in 3 pitches, or it could take 30, it indicates very little.
I have never seen David Wright this pumped up, this demonstrative. And I'm pretty damn happy for him. And for us fans. _
Who else IS he going to send out there? One-hit wonder Verrett who promptly got bombed back in Vegas? He's basically standing in for two-faced Dent as it is. Gee was essentially released, Torres is on the shelf...they got nobody else now that Harvey turns into a spectator after today other than magically reappearing for the Yankee game. They also gotta try and keep the six man charade as long as possible before Noah's limit becomes an issue too.
I'm so down on Harvey right now. I really don't care what he said in a stupid players tribune story. What he initially said he meant. This coming from a guy who has made it known he wants the spotlight on him. He wants to be considered as a New York icon, a renaissance man, etc. And now he wants to pull this shit on the Mets franchise that, hasn't done squat in forever. I root for the front of the jersey, Harvey plays for the back of the jersey. With that being said, the Mets should try their best to give rid of this clown in the off season. Harvey is all about himself, self promoting his Dark Knight persona. Just remember Matt, real heroes are made in October.........
This innings predicament is a load of BS. Harvey and Boras knew this day was going to come. Maybe Boras should have told Matt to not bitch every time Terry or Wharten went out to take him out of the game. Every time he was going to get taken out you tell he was pissed. This could have saved an inning or 2 here, or an inning or 2 back in May. Regardless, look at what the Nats did with Strasbourg a few years ago. They are shot! They blew their chance to win a ring. We better not sit Harvey come postseason!
Because Matt had to live up to his tough guy persona. Now that Scotty is in his ear, he is backpedaling. Matt is a fuckin diva, plain and simple. I will give the MLB channel credit though, everybody, including former players are hammering him.
As they should be. But I also don't think we need to overreact and "oh let's trade this bag of shit now. He's a me first player" and so on and so forth. Let's let this play out.. Matt needs to get on the mound tonight and pitch a god dam gem. Then let's take It from there. We have all seen how competitive this kid is and I don't think he wants to miss out and not be part of something special, if it does happen. That's something he'll regret for the rest of his life. I think it's a little overreactionary to call for his head as sole people seem to be doing.
That video of David fist pumping should be the promotional video for this year's postseason. And hopefully, a Mets championship run.
So in effect, Collins is throwing one game away to save 5. With Niese's spectacular efforts lately, Collins has nothing to lose by starting Verrett over Niese. Trotting Niese out there is putting the team in a hole every time he takes the mound. We already know what we have in Niese (next to nothing) so why not Verrett. At the very least, send Niese a direct message by skipping him on a start or two.
Verrett's already pitching for Harvey at this point for the most part. And at some point they're skipping Noah too although at least his agent isn't Bora$ (I don't think). deGrom-Thor-Matz-Niese-Colon-Verrett Who else is in the cupboard to pitch if you're going six-man to save innings on Thor and Harvey makes 'one' start the rest of the regular season after tonight?
Lineup tonight looks the best I've seen it all season although Id rather see Murph 2 and Cespedes 3. Also huge news with Cespedes re-working his contract language. Possibly wanting to stay in New York?
I would too, but I guess he wanted to go left/right. I think it would be cool if Cespedes want to stay in NY, but I think he just wants all 30 teams to be in on the bid. Mets couple days window was moot, he was always going to test free agency. Crazy not to hear other offers. Why take a New York market team $ out of the bidding process? At least we can be players now.
Mets, Cespedes amend deal ahead of free agency Adjustment enables lengthier negotiations with newly acquired outfielder Email Print Statcast: Cespedes goes deep0:52 9/7/15: Statcast measures the exit velocity, maximum height and hang time of Yoenis Cespedes' home run against the Nationals By Anthony DiComo / MLB.com | @AnthonyDiComo | September 8th, 2015 + 8 COMMENTS WASHINGTON -- The Mets have added an amendment to Yoenis Cespedes' contract allowing them to negotiate with the newly acquired outfielder for the entirety of the free-agent period this offseason, the team announced on Tuesday. Under their old arrangement, the Mets were allowed to negotiate with Cespedes for only five days after the conclusion of the World Series. Now, they can negotiate deep into the offseason with him if they desire. Cespedes' go-ahead two-run homer 9/4/15: Yoenis Cespedes' drive carries over the wall in right-center for a go-ahead two-run shot, giving the Mets a 4-3 lead in the 7th The amendment gives the Mets a far greater chance to re-sign Cespedes, whose unique contract structure allows him to become a few agent before accruing six years of service time. The club still cannot extend a qualifying offer to him. The 29-year-old Cespedes, acquired from the Tigers at this year's July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline for pitching prospects Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa, has batted .311 with a .358 on-base percentage and .669 slugging percentage in 34 games with the Mets. The four-year veteran has hit eight doubles, three triples and 13 homers for New York in 148 at-bats. Anthony DiComo is a reporter for MLB.com.
