It is a dump. I've lived in Manhattan. It sucks on every level. Business wise it's ridiculous. Everything is stuck in the 1980's, it's more museum than city. Nothing new or relevant comes out of NYC anymore. What do they have a monopoly on? Cabs, Television, Finance and Radio. All dying market segments. There's no relevance anymore. A long time ago the spirit of New York was created by iron workers innovating architecture, Thomas Edison lighting JP Morgan's home on Park Avenue, people coming from every place in the world and forming communities. None of that will ever be seen again. Those people are all on the west coast.
There are no conspiracy theories massholes, its straight up cheating again and again. Sure gentrification is a problem and the economic classes are so separated that young people are homeless around the city but the city still stands and continues to be very innovative. No one can go back to the 1930's and early era of innovation. Look to Dubai, China, and India for that... At least admit, no one ever associates Massachusetts/Boston with innovation.
