Awesome output from the pen. this game could've gotten ugly in a hurry considering how the Nats offense has been the last 5 games or so. Nice way to makeup for Niese being Niese. Only 1 batter from Alvarez but maybe we found our lefty specialist? He's shown more than O'Flathery has already. And not much more needs to be said about Cespedes.
The Met team of two months ago loses this game 5-3. But wow did this team need this game with everything going on, and after their failed weekend in Miami with the Nats riding high on the hog.
Anyone get the feeling that this game was proof (to the Mets, cause obviously we already know) that Niese just cant hack it in a big game? If we get to the playoffs its looking more and more likely that Colon would get a start over him. Who would've thought that a couple weeks ago? Atleast Colon knows how to handle himself in the middle of a rough inning. Its weird how everyone that has/had a beard on this team is garbage..curse of the beards!
Chris Johnson @masnCJ 20m20 minutes ago Bryce Harper when asked about the atmosphere of the crowd at #Nats Park: "I mean, they left in the seventh. That's pretty brutal."
Its been obvious for quite some time now that Niese just isn't the same pitcher he used to be with us. Kinda like Dillon Gee just not sent down to get right. I don't how Niese gets on the post season roster. I know TC has a soft spot for him and Parnell, but the reality says something altogether different.
The only thing he has going for him is he's a lefty. Which shouldn't be a good enough reason to keep him in the rotation.
Matz should be our lefty now. I think with all these young guns, Niese and Gee mentally just felt their time was done here. Both should be moved at the first opportunity.
I mean to Niese's credit he DID pick it up from around the time Matz first got called up...he just spits the bit in a big spot and ever since the games have gotten bigger he's imploded at the first sign of trouble. He's emblematic of the loser Mets the last few years. And it sounds like Gee's been released...Adam Rubin said his time with the Mets was over after the AAA team season ended and he was on the last year of his contract.
I love this team. d'Arnaud. Flores. Cespedes. Murphy. Wright. Grandy. Conforto. Uribe. Johnson. Not even talking about the pitching. Geez these guys are clutch. _
Lately I haven't been getting the feeling I usually do when they blow a lead or look like they won't comeback. There's a confidence in these hitters that no deficit is too much
I'd give Niese one more start and if he starts to implode even if he's been pitching well take him out fast. With Harvey pitching fewer innings in the regular season he could be used as a long man maybe giving Harvey 4 or 5 and hoping that Niese could fill the gap. He's not on the post season roster.
Amen. Unfortunately We need Niese to give us inning the rest of the year, but under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should he be given a playoff start. Nor should Colon. He's almost as bad, and I'm not fooled by a few good starts. I'll bang this drum forever --- JDG, Harvey, Thor and Matz. No playoff games should be started by anyone other than those four. You win with your best or you lose with them. If some team can beat those guys four times in seven games, I'll tip my cap and live with it. What I can't live with, is losing a series because we trusted some tomato can who was given a start and got bombed.
USA Today has Matt Harvey making only one start per round, possibly at no more than 60 pitches. Which would be dumb as heck. I hope that isn't true.
