He was really inaccurate - he looked like the same player as last year, but more rusty. The Oregon game is going to be the real test for Cook, he needs to have an excellent game, because I came away unimpressed last wk.
Penn State is a much better overall team too... No excuses. So far inaccurate deep ball, doesn't feel the pressure and folds under it as well. QBs ain't looking so hot this year so far.
Just watched Hackenberg, he's getting David Carr'd to a certain extent, but he also holds the ball ridiculously long and he process information quickly. Not much different from what I saw last year, unfortunately. Better hope Cardale and another guy or two emerge.....
Penn State's oline still is dreadful, but Hack holds the ball way too long, sorry but since Bill O'brien left he has regressed, Franklin has done nothing for him
Cardale can't even win the job outright. This year isn't the year of the QB after all , but it's early in the season.
It's definitely not the year of the QB. The guys who would fuel that perception just aren't out there at this point. You know a year in advance when you have an Andrew Luck or a Peyton Manning or an Eli Manning or a Carson Palmer out there. They already have the hype machine going for them and nobody disagrees with it. Nobody. All the top prospects this year have questions and a few of them like Cardale Jones are outright laughable as a potential #1 overall QB.
I really don't understand what happened to him. Someone as talented as he was coming out of high school and an impressive freshman year under BOB shouldn't be regressing like this. Not sure how I feel about this but as underwhelming as he's been, nfl/espn analysts still view him as a top draft prospect.
I think at best, you will see a Joe Flacco like prospect. Questions coming into the draft, will never be a top 5 QB in the league, but you can win games with that QB. That's what I see in Cook, but that Michigan State game the other day, he didn't look so hot.
I think it's pretty obvious. Behind that joke of a line he's constantly under pressure. It's made him gunshy. He doubts his own abilities. It's mental IMO, because physically he really has it all. We've seen what he could do , but when things fell apart his game did too. It's going to take some insane coaching to fix him up at this point. He's not half the QB he was his freshman year at this point. I'd like to see what he'd do behind a competent line, though.
Bill O'Brien brought an excellent system to Penn State when he was there. It seems to be a very friendly QB system - Ryan Fitzpatrick was having a resurgence with Bill O'Brien last season with the Texans. Kind of makes you wonder who the real Hackenberg is.
That has more to with politics, than his actual talent. And Urban perfers Barret who is a better fit for his offensive system, due to the efficency he plays with. It's early, but last season we at least two guys who we exoected to be top 15 picks (assuming they came out), this year I don't see one YET. I expect at least one guy to emerge, but we'll see.
I foolishly called him the next Andrew Luck last September, before his regression. Franklin is a terrible QB evaluator, who does not help his QB with his playcalling or O scheme; I think he's a pretty solid coach, other than that, but he did absolutely nothing to help Hackenberg last season or this season. But then again, truly great prosoects are able to elevate talent around them and rarely do you see a supposed top prospect regress like this. Bill O Brien probably is just that good. .. he made Fitzpatrick look significantly better than he was and Hackenberg looked as if he was going to be a future number one pick under him. The guys at ESPN and NFLN haven't reviewed his tape yet.; when they do, he should plummet down their boards. I went back and looked st some of his games last season and I didn't see a guy I'd even think about taking with a third round pick. He'x nit even close to a top prospect at this point.
I doubt any QB goes first this year, because this projects to be an excellent class outside of the Quarterbacks , but if Urban allows Cradale to play, he certainly end up in the top ten. At this team 3 and four years ago, the idea that a guy like RG3, Tannehill, or Newton would end up in the top ten was laughable.
Every "top" prospect in this projected class needs plenty of work. Barrett's a great college QB, which is why he'll likely start or split playing time with Cardale. If Cardale picks up from where he left last season and shows growth, he could very well go in the top fifteen. This is a guy, who exceled against top competition and showed NFL traits, despite his lack of playing time. I'm not saying he will be top 15 pick, but the idea certainly isn't laughable. He's the most talented QB in CFB.
Exactly. Like the year before everyone knew Mariota was going to be a top pick when he came out. Oh wait, you hated Mariota. And everyone knew Teddy was going to be great the year before he came out. Oh wait, you hated Teddy too. _
Not a good start for Cook and I'm sorry but Hackenberg is hot garbage. Other than being big, I'm not sure what folks see in this kid. He's inaccurate, immobile, indecisive, unathletic. But he's big so he has that going for him. _
