I really don't understand the Powell and Owusu cuts,Even the Flynn one.....is kind of weird to me although more understandable.Who's returning kicks for us?I really liked what I saw from Powell. If the plan is to use Devin Smith when he returns from injury well even that doesn't make sense,For a guy coming back from an injury who hasn't practiced in over a month putting him on KRs is the fastest way back to IR
They're not going to sign Dalton Freeman. He was one of their first cuts, then the Bill signed him and he couldn't stick there. Wesley Johson outplayed Freeman in camp and preseason. There is no reason that they would re-sign Freeman.
My thoughts and first post here. Those talks that Dexter McDougle should have been cut. The man is coming off a major injury......cut him some slack. Sure he looked awful at times thoughts of Kyle Wilson filled my brain watching him in the preseason. I'm ready to give him another year, all he has to do is turn his head. Has very solid coverage at times, would like to see Revis take him under his wing. We are not exactly deep at cb. Kerley the talks of trading him or cutting him were insanely too premature. Looked fine to me the snaps he played in preseason. If he was lost often as many believe these weeks off have given him more time with the play book. Powell-None of us thought Powell had a chance in hell to make this roster until his kickoff return against the Giants. Followed that up with a very nice game against many guys who will be bagging groceries soon in the game against the Eagles. Powell I would have been fine with on the active roster due to his return ability. It is very hard to carry a return specialist who is still pretty raw at WR. If anyone listed here should have made it is this guy though. Owusu guy looked pretty good granted against mostly 2nd thru 4th teamers in the time he played. If this was before concussion protocol he prolly makes it, seems too fragile for this league at this point in time. Latest from Devin Smith Twitter " feeling great". This also factored into the decisions on Powell and Owusu. Anything else there is no need to mention as they are no doubt clear cut proper moves.
As far as the people asking about kick returners, iff I remember correctly didn't Cromartie return kicks for us last time he was on the team? Perhaps he will again.
I'm surprised that the Jets are keeping both Simon and McDougle. Keeping 3 NTs on the team is surprising, and McDougle looked pretty bad all preseason.
I can see the Pats signing Owusu since they are desperate for help at WR and we always seem to sign each others cast offs. I have to believe his concussion history came into play with this decision and they are hoping he'll clear waivers and be signed to the PS. The Powell cut is also a real head scratcher for me since he obviously adds depth at 2 need positions as a returner and deep threat WR. My initial reaction is to be concerned but I'm trying to take the wait and see approach and keep reminding myself that Mac & Bowles are smarter then we all are and this roster still isn't set in stone.
Still need: 1 A real punter (we downplay field position too much) 2 TE 3 Starting QB 4 LB'S that aren't old and slow also wasted roster spots, Mcdougle, Bohanon, one will go for the new TE
Powell looked great the other night, definitely showed good hands and a dangerous PR, I think Enunwa showed nothing
There seems to be issues with the roster as it stands now, I can't wait to hear the news conference (probably later today) to see how they answer the questions that are sure to be asked which will start with QB and WR.
Thats why I think we're still another year away from making an impact. I think some stop gaps can be had though like Fauria and Weatherford.
Yeah we can't have him doing that again. Shouldn't have been doing it then and now years later he's older and more fragile. All we need is for him to get a hip injury while returning a kick out to the 20. _
yeah i think Dozier is gone once a TE is signed. if we sign more than 1 TE, than maybe even Cumby or Davis will get the axe as well. in terms of FB, Hynoski was cut. much better lead blocker than Bohanon. might be worth looking into. i'm still baffled by cutting Owusu. hoping he somehow makes it back on, but i don't see how as of now. i don't see how we kept Simon or Bowen over him.
Not shocked at all by owusu cur. The guy is like one concussion away from having to call it quits. Kind of surprised by the Powell cut but he didn't really show anything as a receiver, so it makes sense Every year you guys overreact because of some receiver getting cut as if he was a pro bowler. Who was that white receiver last year who was supposed to be the next Wayne Chrebet? What ever happened to him?
Ryan Spadola? Recently cut by the Cardinals. After being cut by the Falcons. After being cut by the Dolphins. After being cut by us. That said, Owusu could ball. Spadola has never caught a ball in a game. His only downside was the concussions, and I won't accept any reason for cutting him other than that.
Jets re-signed Owusu, though, he could get cut all over again if we find another WR we like more. Anyway, glad they kept him. Concussion risk aside, he seemed like a decent player.
