This league fucks over good, veteran punters because teams aren't willing to pay the vet min after 10 or so years. Weatherford was incredible in 2011 and I actually think he deserved Super Bowl MVP that year (watch the highlights if you don't believe me). That said, he has only been an average punter since 2011, he is paid pretty high as far as punters go, and his social media antics pissed off the Giants FO. I could go either way.
so far this preseason, Quigley's got him beat in virtually every category. Gross Avg, Net Avg, Hang Time, Returnable Punts, Punts Inside 20... He still makes me nervous, but he's actually done a decent job this preseason not allowing returns (only 27%), leading to an over 40yd net avg... we certainly could upgrade, but i don't think Weatherford is that answer. not sure if he's just banged up or not, but he's currently ranked last amongst Punters in the preseason according to PFF.
Weatherford was due to make over 3M this year and punters don't make 3M, not even these days. It may be a cut, look around, re-sign thing.
Sign him. Quigs is shit, but I do get a good laugh every time I see someone with a Favre jersey turned into a Quigley jersey with ducktape
I never get why we're a defense oriented team and we have never had a good punter. Gone are the days of field position strategy I guess.
I would do it just so he can stay in the area and keep annoying Michael Kay (he is mad at Weatherford for allegedly hitting on his wife right in front of him )
Quigley has an 84 overall rating in Madden 16, compared to Weatherford's 79 overall. Clearly there's no better determining factor. On the other hand, Weatherford's fake punt audible from the 2010 Packers game was awesomely stupid, but only because he missed the first down by inches. Highlight of a horrendous game.
Sign any of these punters. I can't believe people actually think Quigley is good, including our coaching staff. He shanks punts whenever it'd be a bad time to shank a punt, instantly giving the other team momentum and field position. He gets a 35 yard punt that turns into a decent net average once a game.
I think he was unfairly run out of town after the failed 4th down run against Green Bay. I'm not enthusiastic about the idea of signing him.
