Post up what most impressed you this preseason. I'd have to say Fitzpatrick and his ability to perform in this offense. Very efficient. He looked excellent to me
That in all 4 preseason games the offensive lines (1st, and 2nd strings) got edge and advantage over the opponents D-line. If that continues during the season and the running game has success it opens up play action, gives the Jets TOP advantage and allows the Jets D to be more aggressive.
Is that the same OL that half the people here have been saying for years are over the hill, garbage and should all be replaced? Every time smith gets sacked it's the OL fault.
I think our depth. The drop off in skill/talent wasn't that much. Depth also came in handy when guys were injured. Good job MAC!!
That. I was most impressed with just how well our second and third stringers played together, they looked like they had everything together on both offense and defense. I made a comment last night that if our 2s and 3s played everybody else's 2s and 3s all year I would bet we would be a very good team.
I would honestly have to say Zac Stacy. And maybe that's my own fault because I was extremely hard on him from the day we traded for him. I still don't think he's worth anything more than keeping on as insurance until Riddley is healthy, but that's still more than I thought he would amount to be. He's crafty after he catches the ball but doesn't do it as well as Powell. He also hits the hole hard but doesn't do it as well as Ivory. But judging by the four times we saw him play this preseason, he makes me feel a little more at ease about the backup RB situation. I've always been a fan of Darryl Richardson but he is what he is… A pass catcher who really can't do much else. Other than that, I would probably say Skrine, who has been mentioned maybe once or twice and that's always a good thing when you're a CB. Obviously just like everyone else, I wouldn't say I'm impressed, but more relieved that everything we've heard about Ryan Fitzpatrick turned out to be true. He's an efficient, smart player that will be a perfectly fine stopgap. Edit: I should also mention Chris Ivory. I've always loved him as a runner but it seems like this year he's in better shape and she's a lot quicker. I also remember him having stone hands last year but he was actually catching some passes this preseason. I really think this is going to be his breakout year and wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if he eclipses 1000 yards.
Chan Gailey and the job that he has done with Geno (even though he won't be playing now) and the offense. At least in practice, Geno looked like a very different (and much BETTER) QB this season. The offense hasn't been "offensive." They've moved the ball, scored points and avoided turning the ball over. The OL has contributed to that mightily. It's been amazing to see how well not only the first string has played, but the second string as well.
If only this team had a legit staring QB. Gonna agonize over not having drafted Bridgewater for a long time! I agree about the depth. Lots of guys making plays with names and numbers I don't recognize. Not used to that. I think that is the sign of a great job by scouting dept.
I was most impressed by Todd Bowles ability to keep the team focused through all the distractions and injuries the team faced throughout the summer. It was a baptism in fire between Sheldon Richardson, Mo Wilkerson, the injuries and then I.K. Enemkpali's trajectory altering punch. The Jets got better through camp and the circus stayed mostly quiet, even with several major issues that would have been center ring affairs in previous regimes.
Thank God we have not seen that POS Smith play. Sorry, but Karma is a bitch Otherwise, 100% on how offense looks and Mr "old man" Gailey doing a strong steady job as our OC
Disclaimer: I am not holding my breath over this yet. I will have to see how they operate in the regular season. Then, without much further ado: JETS FINALLY HAVE AN OFFENSE THAT ACTUALLY MOVES THE BALL! THEY ACTUALLY SCORE *GULP!* [TOUCHDOWN!!] GOD, I MISSED THIS MEDIOCRE OFFENSE FOR SO LONG!!!
Three words. Mac, Tod and Chan. Leadership, football knowledge and discipline. It all starts and ends there. The offense looks like an offense. WRs actually get open and catch balls, the running game is far more than a slogan, and there is depth at almost every position. QBs are actually in sink and under control. We are fielding a team with 53 NFL capable players for a change. How refreshing is that. This is the beginning of some great things. Mac will soon own this town, and before you know it, even NYJunc will be happy.
3rd and 15 draw was better than what has followed it most seasons. Watching Ryan Fitzpatrick get the ball out quickly and take the checkdowns at the right times has been an amazing experience given how long we've gone without a QB that can do those simple things.
1st and 2nd team OL's have been most impressive. Fitzpatrick and Petty throughout preseason, plus Flynn and Johnson last night, all had time to throw. They will need to stay away from penalties. Liked what I saw from Flynn and Johnson. Tough choice, but I'd probably go with Flynn if his leg is okay. Fitzpatrick is who we thought he was. Not a game breaker, but should be a serviceable QB for a mediocre offense provided the D lives up to expectations. It worries me that the D never looked sharp in any of the preseason.
Now all he has do is copy Ryan's first two seasons and get us to the AFC championship or beyond, he pretty much has the same defense back and has a huge advantage not having a rookie Snchez starting as QB.
I was impressed with the offensive play calling and the execution. When our players made the calls count, we have kept the defenses off balance. The experience Fitz has in this offense definitely shows .. but what really surprised me the most was the showing that Flynn and Johnson put on! They have barely been on this team and they looked comfortable as hell!
Honestly a lot has impressed me because I had pretty low expectations. Everything from Bowles to our OL to Fitzpatrick.
