Is he even ready to play Thursday night, I really haven't paid attention.

I don't think Geno's going to be cut unless behind the scenes the team thinks he can't work with these players. It would make no sense because it's a long season and Fitz is not a proven starting Qb. But right now Fitz is our best chance to win. I do think that Flynn is underrated. But the Pack chose Tolzien over him as their backup.

I thought they could pup him like a player who hurts himself playing basketball

And plus they're grooming Hundley as the future backup/starter. Flynn is a poor mans Fitzpatrick, solid backup and stopgap guy but he's not a long term solution.

Flynn and Fitzpatrick aren't that similar as players. Flynn has a better arm but he's never had the snap leadership in the huddle. Fitzpatrick has the leadership down once he's established himself on a team.

The Jets vets can be forgiven for clinging to anything that looks like a leader at this point but Fitzpatrick is actually the real deal. He commands the huddle and he's done that on multiple stops on his sojourn around the NFL.

Read this am that Flynn is ready to play. I'd guess he and Johnson split the game which is too bad, I would have liked to see Petty get some more playing time before being shut down for a while.

I'm so glad we have a QB with great "snap leadership" :D

I only hope that IK did for us what Mo Lewis did for the Pats..

It's been such a long time (2008) since we really had that.

Sanchez had the rookie bravado in 2009 but that evaporated after the first quarter of the season and it's hard to command respect in the huddle when you've got a tricolor wrist band on and the head coach is telling knock knock jokes on the sidelines at crucial moments to try to keep himself and others from watching the field too closely.

Sounds to me like they're playing it like Petty is a valuable 2nd string QB. Hopefully that means Geno is going bye bye.

I have been very critical of Fitzpatrick but I'm coming around a little because of things like this. I still don't think he's very good but its only physical. He will make mistakes but finally he presents some stability/leadership at the position.. something we haven't had in forever like you say.

It will be nice for once to not have a QB that completely falls apart at the first sign of adversity. It will be nice to have a QB that holds at least a little bit of clout in the locker room. He's going to have turnovers (statistically he throws quite a bit on INTs) but they going to be of the variety where he's trying to make a play and can't physically do it. He's not going to run into the ass of his lineman and fumble, or accidentally run out of the back of the end zone for a safety, or forget what down it is, or forget how much time is on the clock, or throw it up for grabs(INT) three series in a row just because the headset isn't working and he has trouble communicating with the sideline...
[all things we've seen in the past 6 years from QBs btw]

Its a sad state of affairs when having a very average QB who just simply isn't going to do dumbass shit is a big, refreshing step in the right direction for this franchise. But to quote the kids today "it is what it is".. Plus Fitzpatrick is a likable guy, which helps with fans and in the locker room

Probably won't happen but it would only cost the Jets 500k in dead money to cut him today and in return they would get a 861k cap savings.

Yes, it is a shame that Petty will not get more playing time. But the main objective at Qb for this game is to see if Flynn is healthy and how he compares to Johnson as the backup Qb.

I still hold out hope that either Flynn or Johnson shows so much tomorrow night and into the season that the Jets end up being comfortable with cutting Smith.

If Flynn and Johnson both crash and burn Thursday night, and Fitz suffers a season ending leg injury against the Browns opening day, look for Macc to offer a 5th to Philly for Nacho. If that happens, we almost have to reinstate Junc and take our lumps. I'll look forward to the Junc/Abyz banter.

Not gonna happen. Management made it clear. Junc is persona non grata. Does anyone know if he is on another Jets board?

If all that happens, you go with Petty until Smith returns and then go find a number 3 to limp thru the season with. No way we give up a pick for Sanchez. (assuming Smith is still here in week 1)

Its actually hard to see Flynn and Johnson crashing though when they are potential starting QBs that will be going against 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Flynn and johnson are auditioning for week 1 qb2. Mac is probably hoping johnson beats flynn so he doesn't have to pay flynn after he is cut week 4

I know a guy who was stuck in an elevator with Junc for thirty six and a half minutes.

He's still in therapy 5 years later.
