They did the same thing to Posey as they did Freeman, cut him early so they can sign him to the PS same day they go to 53 man cuts. It they wait until final cuts they have to wait through waivers.
In case anyone was wondering: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/8/29/6077941/nfl-practice-squad-rules-eligibility-salary-deadline
Well, Bowles and Mac had absolutely no idea what they had in Enunwa and Evans, since one was on a Practice squad and one was on IR all last year. Owusu was able to stand out in camp, but there's really no reason Posey could have made the team if for instance Enunwa and or Evans turned out to be total shit, and then add another WR injury in camp - and there you go. As far as Simms, he was awful. Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Bryce Petty are all better already. When comparing Flynn and Simms, we're talking about the 4th most important QB on the roster. Even if he were to play over Petty in a real game, which I'm not even totally sure he would, when you're down to playing your 3rd string QB, you're just looking for the least amount of mistakes possible. Simms isn't going to be anything, and I doubt he'd be any kind of upgrade over anyone we have.
I know man I still can't get over the fact we released Matt Simms either. He played such an integral part in the last 2-3 Jets seasons and he really showed us something every time he touched the field. I mean just look at his college career, why would we not want to keep a guy like that around? Now we have to watch him thrive with the Bills. That first game, 0-3 with an INT... really makes you wonder what Macc and Bowles were thinking. Especially when he followed it up with a DNP in the following game. Don't feed the troll.
How do you not like this GM. He did everything we as fans wanted. Got receiver help, brought in a capable starter, and drafted smart. Plus drafted the best QB in the draft in round 4!
You answered your own question with Posey. He didn't cost anything. The GM knew him from his time and Houston and wanted to give him a shot. No big deal. As for Simms, meh. The guy hasn't proved anything.
Tous les problemes are too small to talk about. And I always thought the coaching staff decides who gets cut from camp, not the GM.
Who is Johnson? And when was Simms ever our #2 QB? 2 years ago? accidently? Sanchez hurt and Garrard quit right before the year started right?
I think Freeman was one of those Rex Ryan Clemson picks. Nobody figured anything out about him because he went on IR for a year.
