For comparsion, watch our WR turned HBack who is like 40 pounds lighter than Cumberland, who has played the position his entire life, block. And out of the backfield. And Demario whiffing. Looked pretty funny but he needs to cut that shit out.
DD looked like he went for the shoulder hit and was .5 secs to late. if he puts his arms out to wrap he probably gets him.
Cut his ass now! What a damn dog! If he had thrown himself at the defenders, he could have taken them all out.
this is absolutely true....glad someone else noticed it. we were mainly playing Nickel last night, even on early downs, with Coples and Reilly hand in dirt playing 7 tech, and Wilk and Douz/Williams on the interior. so the fans got what they wanted......Coples was used as a down lineman. He set the edge well a couple times, but there was no pass rush. Reilly is no DE either......probably should try him at ILB. gets swallowed up by OT's.
Because we don't draft TE's. When we do draft a TE they are known for something other than their all-around play. There's also still a residual effect from all the short drafts of the Tannenbaum era. The Jets drafted two TE's from 2006 to 2012 and Dustin Keller was a big receiver more than a TE.
Eh. I rather have good depth at CB or WR instead of TE. But I'm hoping we can land a veteran TE who can block now that the cuts are rolling in. And get rid of Cumberland and Kellen Davis.
I've gotta disagree regarding the Coples at OLB criticism. While I agree that in a perfect world Coples is playing 1 gap on the interior of a 4-3, he IS capable of playing OLB well & has done it. I think people are thinking way too much in terms of outside pass rush stats when they look at Coples impact manning the flank. What he does is play a mean strong side..specifically setting the edge & outside leverage due to his length. In pass rush situations on the outside his length & quickness creates space for both other DL & blitzers.Yes he does struggle a bit w/ getting the edge for clean looks at QB. He's better at disengaging on the interior. But he does a lot of little things well at strong side that are crucial in a cold weather 3-4 D. Ideally he is a 2 down player at OLB & gets worked into the DL rotation including on the interior in passing situations.
He pass protects AND he looks like more of a shifty runner this year. He's always looked to me to be a downhill runner. This year he looks like he's making a second and third cut and running wide rather than just barreling head down into the line. Looks slimmer and faster too. _
Cumberland whiffs, yes, but there were other problems on that play too. He can't block 5 guys at once! Even if he pancaked the guy he was supposed to block the play still gets stuffed right there. Cumberland sucks... but sadly he's the best TE on this roster
Hard to really judge the performance against a team that was so very poor! Luckily it looks like we got a couple of teams on the schedule that will likely be in that category so the same result in those games should see us have a better season then last. .......and yes Cumberland sucks.
Just a lack of effort on his end. At least hit someone damn. 53, I understand Cumby couldn't get but there's just no effort on his attempt.
Gotta love the NFLN recap of the game this morning. They show: Eli pick 6 Leonhard Williams tweak his knee ODB OOB catch Don't even discuss the game, then move onto the Patriots for the third time in the show. Tom Brady's new court drawing got more run than the Jets' entire game.
I saw that too and had the same thought. Fuck ESPN. everyone in the world has a stiffy for Beckham Jr btw. we'll see how he does in year 2 with all the double teams coming his way. except of course when they play us and Revis shuts him down 1 on 1
Everyone has a hard-on for ODB. Some dumb-ass Giants beatwriter from SNY said ODB had 5 catches on Revis; ODB was on Cromartie on a decent # of plays. He's a primadonna for sure, he's too good for the media
The Giants have had a lot of stud WR's their first year or two who then turned into duds over time. That's the Eli Manning effect. You have to believe one of two things: 1. Les Miles is an idiot. 2. Eli Manning is one of the best QB's in a hurricane in history. I'll go with #2.
Finally got the digs on my son and daughter who are die hard Giant fans (grendfathers influence). They have 2 rings, thats enuf already Hey, let them enjoy rebuilding for a change
Anyone see Newsday on Sunday? I saw two articles on the game. One of them was about the Giants one touchdown drive, and how they're getting closer and not there yet. The other was on Leonard Williams injury. No mention of how the Jets played at all. But they did have to add a huge picture of Beckham making a one handed catch, then landing out of bounds... I dont hate the Giants at all, and generally root for them if it doesnt impact the Jets. I am however, getting a little frustrated with this OBJ obsession.
The OBJ incompletion is out of control. NFL.com has it listed as Revis has met his match. The dude is out of bounds, you can't even make this shit up.
