I know he is being viewed at as a rental but they need to find a way to sign him. He has always been amazingly offensively and finally being in a big market and on a winning team is doing wonders for him. Guy is a stud, always has been a stud and should be in Queens long term.
And it looks like Familia is back in a groove. Damn this is a fun team to watch. My man d'Arnaud is on a tear. Hell a LOT of them are in a tear. _
They MUST pay Cespedes. I would even let Murph walk just to resign Cespedes. Power hitting right handed bats don't come around very often. We have one right smack dab in the middle of our lineup.
The $$ for Cespedes could be there. Gotta figure if we make a decent playoff run , the Wilpons are going to generate a lot of money from it. Colon comes off the books , they saved a shit ton of money with the Wright injury too. He's nearly 30 so I wouldnt go out there and give him 8 years or anything but a 5 year deal shouldn't be anything this franchise cant handle. Sandy has said time and time again , before we even traded for Cespedes , that this payroll can handle one more big contract. He's not a top tier player but 30HR/100RBI are rare in todays game. If you get the chance to sign one , you do it!
Up 6.5 games. Awesome. Colon and Cuddy were great tonight. O'Flathery should never pitch again. IDC if its 20-0. Poor excuse for an Irishmen. 70th win tonight. Not for nothing but 90 wins should be a nice realistic benchmark for this team..and to get there we only have to go 20-16 the rest of the way. Considering our schedule I think that would be a disappointment.
I wish he would give us a little more pop like he did the last couple years. But you're right he's been nothing this year when he's been up. I think I remember hearing that Colon is more comfortable with him catching..for whatever reason. Gotta think Plawecki is going to be the backup once the rosters expand and thats a good thing.
If you give me the choice of playing the Dodgers and facing Grienke and Kershaw in 3 of the 5 games, or facing any other team ... I'm taking "any other team" 100 out of 100 times. You're severely underestimating how difficult it will be to beat the Dodgers in a short series.
Maybe it's something maybe it isn't but Kershaw has been bad in the playoffs, he was great in 2013 but horrific last year and terrible in 2009. Even with his 2013 games where he pitched incredible in 3 of the 4 games his career ERA of 5.12 is not something to shake in your shoes about. He's very beatable in the playoffs. Last year in 2 starts he struck out a ton of guys but his numbers were outright terrible. Grienke on the other hand, pretty good numbers and is probably the guy who could shut down the Mets.
Well its either them or Bumgarner. Id like to see how Kershaw does against our lineup now compared to what he did against us pre-deadline. Both teams would be difficult though. Giants have Posey but dont have Sandoval who was a huge part of both of their runs. They also dont really have the supporting casts that they had during those WS runs either. So I can see the appeal of them. Its basically if you beat Bumgarner in Game 1 you have a huge advantage in the series. Their expierence is what makes me want the Dodgers though..but now that they have Utley and Rollins I kinda want SF too lol.
It's such a difficult choice. Regardless who we end up with I want to be the home team. Let kershaw and greinke pitch on the road to start the series.. That's such an advantage. I also saw this on Twitter.. On July 30: MLB playoff probability had the Nats at 81% and the Mets at 31%. Yesterday: Mets at 89%. Nats at 12.1%. #YaGottaBelieve
We are 21st in payroll, money isn't an excuse We have been looking for an OF that is a right handed power bat for years, as a bonus he can also can play CF if needed and plays good defense in LF, it would be horribly stupid to let him go
Money has always been an excuse for the Wilpons though. That's why they shouldn't be owning any team never mind an NY based one. If we had different owners resigning this guy wouldn't even be an issue.
We have arms that can match LA or SF's aces so it isn't as if we are at a significant disadvantage against either one.
MLB should have stripped them of the team after the Madoff fiasco but of course that moron Selig would never do that. McCourt was an outsider so of course they ran him off. Could you imagine if someone like Mark Cuban owned the team?
