So unless you're guaranteed to win the superbowl just go 0-16 and try again next year. I really like the way you think.
Except the trade off is not so simple. Would you rather go 3-13 AND have a high risk of ruining any potential Petty might have, by putting him in a position destined to fail
I thought he was a good pick for you guys last year. It'd be nice to see him start the 3rd preseason game, because that one actually has some game planning involved. You can get a better idea where they are at.
The other issue is the new GM didn't spend like a drunken sailor on top talent like Marshall, Revis, etal to go 3-13 this year.
Perception is 90% of the equation in terms of getting an opportunity in the NFL. It's based on talent and investment and where people see the player in terms of his peers. Asking if Petty would have a better shot if he'd been a 1st round pick doesn't advance the argument in any meaningful way because he was a 4th round pick from the perspective of the Jets and maybe later than that from the position of the rest of the NFL.
Well, the new GM had to spend money somewhere and he chose to spend it on free agents that the current management wanted. The 89% rule meant more than a few people were getting paid this year.
you are so full of crap, what you refuse to except is that geno has shown he is not the answer. I expect interceptions, I expect growing pains, but I also expect a qb to grow from them and become a leader and not make the same mistakes again and again and again. You know like Geno does. You know something if Petty does not cut the mustard you look again. I am the firm believer you take a qb every other draft till you find the qb that has what it takes. So please stop Geno is this and when Petty does that crap. You have no leg to stand on. Your blind loyalty to Geno is impossible to swallow. Geno is a complete and total f up he has two yrs as a starter and has repeated the same mistakes over and over and over again. Even if he hasn't developed as Qb you would expect him to develop as a human and a leader with all the failures/adversity and learn some humility but he has even failed to do that. Sorry it is time to move on from Geno the same way with Sanchez and as bad as Sanchez was he was never the horrible teammate Geno has shown to be by the issue with IK. Like last yr when I asked for a qb who had more interceptions then starts and have succeeded someone compared him to Peyton Manning. 42 turnovers in 30 starts that is Geno is, Geno is a turn over machine, not a leader and is a waste of roster space and cap room. 2 yrs of pouting, cursing at fans, missing team meetings, missing open receivers, making bad reads, taunting team mates, turn overs and causing controversy and that is over hopefully. I wanted the kid to succeed but he hasn't not as a qb, teammate or leader time to move on, I'll admit he had a hard time here with coaches and was thrown in early but enough is enough. Let petty sit for yr or 2 and learn the way it should be. And you know if he fails it will be because he didn't have the skills. But to come into this thread and to say to trade Petty is just fing stupid and only a moron or someone expecting or picking a argument would do that. So change your screen name ignore me or whatever but your stupid blind post to this idiot of a qb needs to stop. You are bringing down the collective IQ of this board with these idiotic post.
he has played enough to let the world know how bad he is. If I was the gm after looking at Flynn and making sure he is up to speed, I would place on the pup list for the yr. maybe he would learn something then buy sitting him and he could try again next yr. Personally i would cut his ass.
But this is why you sit him for a yr or even two to learn. he had his moments but what I like is he went into the snaps from the huddle and appeared to be making mostly the correct choices. For a kid that played in the shotgun, and in a different offense he looked more comfortable then the first game by a wide margin. I want to see what a yr of learning does for him
Not true, 42 turn overs a good majority of them are from his mistakes. That is 42 turn overs in 2 yrs versus 25 tds. The game has never slowed down for him and he was still making the same mistakes from game 1 to game 30
wait did you read what you wrote versus where you wrote it? Seriously this thread was all about Optimism until someone wanted to trade Petty and keep Geno........
I think Geno is still our guy (unless Fitz starts off like 3-1 or something) until the new regime decides Petty is ready to roll. I don't see any long term ties with the jets and geno.. even if he proves to be serviceable and wins some games. Bryce was my favorite QB in this years class before we picked him i love me some bryce petty. I think he'll be the guy we've been waiting for... i know that sounds like a broken record but I'm serious fellas, this kid already has the smarts even if he never becomes a top 10 QB i know he won't be anywhere near as turnover prone as Sanchez or Geno when he makes his debut as long as he sits and learns first.
But that's why I'm saying it makes no sense. You don't play names, experience, salary, draft status. Play the guys who perform the best in practice. You don't owe it to anybody to put them on the field just because you pay them a lot of money, just because they once were good players, just because they were drafted high.
Yeah, but a player has to be extremely good to get boosted to the level that a 1st round pick comes in at. He has to be Russell Wilson good and then he has to have the guys in front of him not be great also. Tom Brady doesn't make it on the field for another season or two if Bledsoe doesn't get blasted by Mo Lewis. Maybe he never makes it on the field at all. That's just what being #2 on the depth chart with no bonafides does to you.
I started this thread because I was excited about drafting him, but I bumped it in jest when Geno got himself punched in the jaw. I honestly do not want Petty thrown in harms way this year--not while we have meaningful games. But if we are knocked out of the playoffs by week 10 or 11 or 12, I absoltuely want him starting the last two games of the season. Full games, full game plans, like our playoff lives matter. Don't love next years QB class and unless one of these guys really lights it up, I want nothing to do with any of them in the first 3 rounds. No repeat of 2013 where teams forced themselves into taking QBs from an awful class because...well...you HAVE to draft a QB, right? I don't think 2016 is going to be nearly the shit that 2013 was, but it's not going to be that 2014 class and I don't see two studs at the top like 2015. If we're out of the playoffs, we have to see what Petty can do in live action. _
Dude ur a joke. Your hate for Geno shows so much it sad. Your a typical person on here when somebody disagrees with you u feel need to call them names. I don't get into name calling on a message board.
I like Petty but he is playing in a complementary spread offense against back ups. I'm not even sure he can do a real drop back against coverage yet, which is what Geno--another prolific spread QB--was tasked with learning over the past 2 years. That said, Petty's poise, accuracy and overall performance show he certainly has potential and as such he should be kept lest Geno doesn't work out over the next 2 years. Petty should ideally start in Year 3 if Geno fails out.
I agree he needs to sit, he has a strong arm, went through progressions and looked better than he did in the first game.
And that's all well and good. However it's still vanilla defenses, still back ups and still Chan Gailey's "easy" offense. Next year Petty can compete with Geno for the starting position if it gets to that point. And if Petty is so good and Geno is so bad, Geno will fail spectacularly this year when he plays and Petty will be in pole position to take the job thereafter. It'll all work itself out if Petty is as good as his preseason predicts or if Geno is as bad as his last 2 seasons predict. Fitz shouldn't even be in the discussion.
