Not sure what to make of this exactly. Either he's very confident in his skills and thinks he's gonna play lights out come week one or he's just very, very delusional. And his comment on two a days is also pretty odd. He should be lucky practice doesn't last twice as long considering how much he's struggling. And the other comment about him giving up bigplays on purpose to fix communication...I don't get that. I just hope he knows what he's doing. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie gets beat by teammate Eric Decker in camp on a regular basis, but he’s not concerned before Week 1. “I’m not really worried about anything that’s going on right now,” he said. “I’m looking forward to when those lights turn on and you go play football from there.” Cromartie, 31, said he felt fine and was working on his technique. He expressed a willingness to surrender big plays in practice if it meant getting his communication and tactics ready for the regular season. “This is really not even training camp,” Cromartie said. “I don’t know what it is. I’m used to having two-a-days. . . . Two-a-days was fun. It weaned out the guys that was not mentally strong.” http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/jets-insider-antonio-cromartie-not-concerned-burns-article-1.2331468?cid=bitly&utm_content=bufferf3a0b&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=NYDNSports Twitter
Apart from the terrible grammar I see his point. Training camp has become a joke. 2 a day practices are phyically and mentally draining s. Not every player can handle 2 practices a day. If you're on the practice field for 2 hours and that's it, a younger CB might look the same or better than Cro. But in the last hour of the 2nd practice that guy could be spent while Cro is looking great. Maybe stamina isn't Cro's problem right now. It's more likely motivation.
Its how he is. He never cares about practice and its gotten worse as he's gotten more established in the league. He's not finished he's just not motivated. He will start slow in the season because he dogged it all offseason but he will finish the season strong.
I agree with your interpretation of what he's saying. In addition, he seems to be implying that he is working on other things (communication) over 1 on 1 coverage. I can see the wisdom of this--hope it's not merely an excuse.
He sounds a bit wacko to me. His saying that Brady shouldn't be suspended is also cause for concern. The one thing I'm pretty sure of is that if Bowles is not happy with anything that Cro has said, he will let him know about it.
Plus I don't get all the concern over Cro on this board. I'll trust bowles who was his defensive coordinator as of last year. If bowles felt he was done he would have told mac. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Maybe because he's regularly getting toasted by every WR on our roster including the scrubs? I get trusting Bowles abilities as a DC and but he's not a DC anymore and he's not even calling the defense. So he's less hands on with the defense this year and doesn't have nearly as much time individually seeing Cro. It's also fully possible that's he's swimming a little bit with all his new responsibilities of being a HC for the first time. Not that he gives that impression - quite the opposite actually. I just question the reliability of trusting Bowles on this one for several reasons.
We hear when Decker or Marshall hall one in on him, because that's news. We DON'T hear about the other 15 passes defended. We did hear about a forced fumble a few days ago and an INT yesterday. Like Turk said, if Bowles is happy, I'm happy.
Some guys are better when the lights go on so I'll start worrying when he's getting toasted in the regular season.
Batman and Robin are back together and you guys are complaining about it? The secondary is the least of our problems this year.
I'm sure Rodgers would tell Bowles if there was a big cause for concern with Cro so I wouldn't worry about him not being focused on the defense and missing these issues.
I get the logic but now the trust cascades to Rodgers who has never been a DC and may be swimming himself. I'm not saying you guys are wrong, it's just shaky logic IMO. Last time Cro was here he wasn't good, so that doesn't help ease anyone's worries.
I was worried about how much Cro was costing us at $8million since I think he is clearly over the hill. Nevertheless, Magic Mike has not guaranteed his salary past this year. His 8 million will come off the books and we can get that elite QB we've always wanted
